I am so incredibly grateful I found this place! I'd been searching for a ceramics class that I could take with my mom, who has some cognitive impairment, and this school has been a total blessing. The teachers here are phenomenal. They are kind, incredibly generous with their knowledge, and created such a welcoming environment for both my mom and me. There is a really nice variety of workshops too and I'm hoping they add even more for evenings. I recently took the holiday linocut workshop and had the best time! It wasn't just about learning a new craft; the vibe was so social and upbeat. The teacher was wonderful and the other students were a blast to hang out with while we worked. Their approach to teaching really builds your confidence. For the first time, I actually felt like an artist rather than just a hobbyist. The atmosphere here is creative, supportive, and fun. I'm constantly checking their calendar for new classes and workshops to be added. Check them out if you or your kids (or your mom!) want a community as well as an art school. read more

We are currently attending this art school, and I want to share our experience, especially regarding their make-up class policy. They only allow one make-up class--ever. I understand policies exist for a reason, but what happens when a child is sick? Are parents expected to bring their sick kids just so they don't lose a class they already paid for? I tried requesting an earlier time due to a legitimate scheduling issue, but was told no because we had already used our one make-up. So if my child gets sick again, we simply lose the class. As for the teaching, I honestly can't even say if it's great since this is our first time enrolling. But it's sad that because of this strict policy, it just doesn't seem like it will work for us. It's ultimately my fault for not reading the make-up policy closely, but after this experience, we won't be returning. We still have two classes left, which we will attend, but that will be the end for us. My friend's child is actually in the ceramics program at this same art school--she's the one who referred me--and even she thinks the policy is too rigid. If you have a very healthy child and know you'll make every session, then this school might work for you. Otherwise, there are other art programs--like Damoya Art in Danville--that are far more flexible with scheduling. When I spoke with Alex, I was told that other art schools don't even offer any make-up classes at all, as if I should be grateful for the one they allow. But for a kids' program, flexibility matters. Rebel Art School is a gem. We held our daughter's birthday party here and it was such a treat. The online reservation was easy. I recommend booking in advance since spots fill up quickly. I spoke with Alex to ask questions and she gave me an idea of what to expect for the party. She even decorated the birthday table in the theme colors that we wanted. Alex and her assistant handled all aspects of the art project from the setup, to the demo and explanation, to preparing the artwork for take home. It was so nice to be able to relax and take photos and admire the art making process. The party was well planned and we had time to complete the artwork, eat lunch, and have dessert. My daughter celebrated her 6th birthday with friends here. It was such an easy and amazing experience. Booking was VERY simple- you check for availability on their website and sign up. I loved how seamless the process was. After we booked our party, Alex followed up with an email. Party- they have a party room where they decorate everything and you can bring food and drinks. I let them know she wanted a mermaid theme and they brought mermaid plates out for the party. I loved the details of it all. The Art- I was amazed at how patient, professional, but comfortable the art instructor made it feel. She had amazing ability to make 9 six year old kids to listen and follow along. She also encouraged creativity and making their own art. The entire party was a huge success and so much fun. Our next agenda will be to sign up for some classes here! Sent my daughter here for a class, am not impressed. It was an expensive open studio situation. There was no instruction, my daughter (who is an already advanced artist) was basically just there to use the supplies. We just had our daughter's 7th birthday at Rebel and it was awesome! Alex and her team crafted a theme based on her request (space unicorn), and planned a very creative art project that allowed the kids to use high quality paints, new art tools, and new techniques. The teachers were engaging, the instruction educational, and the kids all had a great time. The team also helped organize the studio space and schedule the transitions (when to eat, when to art), so the party just flowed effortlessly. The studio is super cute and really gives off a personal vibe, so there is no cookie-cutter-party feel. Rebel Art Studio is the BEST place to host a birthday party in the East Bay. This is the second birthday party we have had Alex and her team at Rebel host. Both parties were fantastic and we just love everyone at Rebel. Covid took away a big party for my daughter's 5th birthday. We decided to have her "bubble" friends have a get together at rebel art. I was happy with the spacing as well as the amount of hand washing the kids had to do. Masks were enforced indoors and the patio area was a nice place to sit and have a breather. My daughter just finished two weeks of Summer camp here and we were extremely impressed! We loved the artwork she came home with, we ended up framing several items! We were so happy to have found such a wonderful Art School in the city we used to live in. Alex and Gabriella were so helpful since our daughter was one of the youngest in the class. Our daughter took many classes and continued on until we moved from Walnut Creek to Florida. We were unable to find any class/school like Rebel Arts but when COVID hit, we were able to take the online zoom class. Our daughter's art skills have grown so much over and the patience that the Rebel Arts teachers have over zoom is just amazing. I rounded up some girlfriends and we had a blast taking an evening painting class with the lovely owner, Alex. She offers weekly children's classes throughout every season. So wonderful to have a constant Art presence in the kid's schedules. Rebel offers such excellent education and vast knowledge of a wide range of the Arts. Everything from clay to watercolor. We had our daughter's 7th birthday party this weekend. Alex is wonderful with kids. She spends time to explain and demonstrate drawing and painting techniques for all the kids before they make their art. The kids had a blast using watercolors to make an ocean life painting. All the kids' art turned out beautiful. The studio is lovely, very spacious and bright. Alex decorated the studio beautifully for my daughter's party. All we had to do was bring food and cupcakes. As of mom of three kids, I can honestly say, there is not a lot of activities that holds all three of my young kid's attention. That is until we found Rebel Art School and it's owner, Alex. Alex and her amazing instructors meet each child at his or her level and challenge them to really engage in whatever they are creating. Not only do the kids have an amazing time, I feel as though they are truly coming away from each class with an education in technique and how to examine their work from different points of view. Sounds intense for little kids, right? Nope! Again, Alex and her staff are so good at age-appropriate lessons and feedback. My special needs child has felt so welcomed and has been thriving here! My shy 4 year old would not so much as leave our sides for 5 minutes... add COVID to the mix and it only exacerbated the problem. He came home with a skip in his step and told us about the dog at art class and his wonderful teacher, Miss Alex. He was thrilled to learn from her and share his art with us. Alex recently helped us host an outing for a group of girls, all age 6. From her warm welcome with art aprons to her calm demeanor and wonderful demonstrations, she knocked it out of the park! She inspired them to be creative and go with their own flow. She brought out fun mediums like india ink and various instruments to dip in the ink, followed by chalk pastels. The girls had a great time and the hour flew by!
