It's hard to pick a rating because I have a lot of conflicting thoughts on this place. We found this place unexpectedly while out exploring Wynwood. The minute I walked through the door I was completely floored. They sell real dinosaur fossils, eggs, and the fossilized remains of other animals. I felt like I had walked into the New York Museum of Natural History except here you can buy anything you see if you have the money, in this case thousands of dollars. They also sell rocks and minerals, art and sculpture from all over the world, artifacts from pre Colombian civilizations, stuffed animal trophies, jewelry, pottery, mounted insects, wood carvings, and ethnic collectibles. The inventory is astonishing. Prices range from 3 for $5 for fox penis bones to many thousands of dollars for one of a kind fossils. It feels like a free museum inside and Art by God counts museums among its clients. The owner of Art by God is Gene Harris, a self taught fossil collector. He opened his first store in the Loehmann's plaza in Kendall. The store was first called Haris's Art and Collectibles .The name was changed to Art by God because an attorney purchased a fossilized nautilus from Harris and called the store asking for the name of the artist. Harris told him "God forgot to sign it" and from that incident the name of the store was created. The store then went through several incarnations, 1987 Bayside Marketplace, 1990 a Laredo Texas showroom, 1992 Biscayne Blvd, and now Wynwood. Harris has been to more than 120 countries to find the items he sells. In 2014 Harris was convicted of illegally selling the horns of an endangered black rhinoceros. The rhino was not freshly killed. Instead he brokered a deal between someone who wanted it and someone who had it. He collected a finders fee for the transaction but it was illegal to do so and he pleaded guilty. Although he claims not to hunt himself the store is filled with stuffed animals including a lion and polar bear. The polar bear was apparently killed in the 1970's. It had a sign that it was killed by a wildlife conservationist and trophy hunter. I don't think you can be both things. In my opinion the animals should have been left alone where they were living. No one needs a dead lion to decorate their living room. Another thing that bothered me were the skulls from the Inca burial sites. I am not in favoring of plundering ancient civilizations burial grounds so their dead can be sold. That's the problem with going around the world to buy unusual things. You might encounter some poor people selling things they should not be selling. This was a hard review to write because on the one hand this is an amazing store that has things that I didn't know it was possible to buy. On the other hand it hurt my heart to see so many animals killed for decoration. So in the end my review is going to land in the middle. Mr. Harris could keep his collection private and only let actual buyers see it. Instead he has a store and everyone is invited to look around for free and take as many pictures as they want. I have never been in a store like this before. It's definitely one of a kind.

Being an artist myself with my own gallery I was intrigued. Check out my pictures of their murals outside the art gallery and the surrounding area. Magic. Absolute magic. David Lavernia, also known as DaveL, and his business partner Federico Bertele, opened Archive 79 in November of 2019. Originally, the gallery started as just a vision. David and Federico imagined a space where creatives could come together, get inspired, and showcase their work. The innovative entrepreneurs ended up converging their crafts and Archive 79 was born. Art Basel is undoubtedly one of the world's biggest weeks in art and this year a large group of local and international artists were missing from the typical scene. Instead, they were all in Little River bringing David and Federico's collaborative art space to life. Over 30 artists got space on Archive 79's exterior walls, transforming the gallery into an open-air art exhibit. The murals are bold, yet tropical, and every inch seamlessly blends together. Leah Arts District is not in real close proximity of bars and restaurants. It is in a very industrial district. The quality of the murals is great. I drove around to see the murals, you could easily walk the area but then again, it is very industrial. I saw everything in less than 30 minutes. The murals are nice to see but if you go set your expectations accordingly. I believe they may hold special events.

The two wanted to create something cool that would attract people to Hialeah which didn't have any cultural arts programs. The pair picked a name for the area and partners were selected to launch the project. The first event was a street festival held in April 2015 which was attended by over 2,000 people. The Leah Arts District is adjacent to Flamingo Plaza, a place to get your off beat purchases. The arts district is located in warehouses that were a hub of manufacturing in the 80's and 90's. After work was outsourced the warehouses were abandoned. Thrift stores moved into the area sparking an arts scene. The Leah Arts District emerged as an affordable place for artists to live, work, and showcase their art. It's located only 15 minutes from the more well known Wynwood Arts District. The Leah hosts block parties, live music, workshops, and performances. The area has approximately 30 murals from East 9th Street to East 17th Street and East Tenth Ave to the railroad tracks You can follow the Leah Arts District on Facebook for upcoming events. Unbranded Brewing Company is having their grand opening on February 23 and the annual block party is on March 7. I would recommend attending one of the events because on a Sunday afternoon the area was completely dead. Right now the Leah Arts Districts looks Wynwood did in 2005. The rent is lower here which is attracting artists. This area is being touted as the next Wynwood so it will be interesting to see how things develop. It's definitely a place to keep your eye on.

Immediately I was busy admiring the exposed duct work, metal beams, polished concrete floor and finished look but raw nonetheless. The gallery was recommended to me by a couple people I met at Panther that told me it was a really happening place, but it was as quiet as a library and void of many guests. Surprising since I really enjoyed the art presented on this 2nd Saturday visit. My personal favorite today was a collage that used very small, black & white photographs laid onto large, back wall. Viewing up close, you can make out all the pictures but back up a bit and all the prints start to create a larger mess; back up even more and the prints are laid in such a way that it seems to create a mural of an eye. Other pieces presented were such an array of different medians and styles; something for everyone. Although it felt somewhat like a library (shhh), had no music or ambient noises and furnished no wine or water... I really liked the classy feel and variety of art.

It's easy to find - with the neon "HERE" sign at the entrance, and close to the delicious noms of Joey's. But what a gallery makes are it's exhibits. Seemingly emphasizing on photography, last night's was no exception with installations (pictures? sculptures? paintings?) made of cut-up pieces of both negatives and retro black & white pictures. Place an old lens in the center, and you have an eye symbolic of cameras. Or would it be a camera symbolic of eyes? All in all, another must-see in Wynwood during Second Saturday!
