Have you ever wondered what makes someone get a tattoo? What about the pain and the lifelong commitment? I did. But then I wanted to memorialize my dog and I felt a tattoo would be a good way to do it. I scoured the internet for a quality shop. I asked people with tattoos for shop recommendations. I ended up finding Art Attack on my own. I liked the clever name, the look of the shop was clean, modern and not scary and they had mostly good reviews. The complaint reviews were handled well. I emailed them with a jillion questions. They suggested I come in, talk with them, look around and if I was still interested I could make an appointment. My husband, the most supportive man I've ever known, went with me. We went on Thursday, April Fool's Day. No, that wasn't lost on me but I chose to view it as ironic and funny. The shop was clean and decorated nicely. I especially liked the NO CHILDREN sign because who wants a screaming child startling your tattoo artist?! Kaylie came out and I explained what I was looking for and showed her my drawing. She was very sweet and told me she'd be happy to help and gave me the price of $80.00. She had an opening and I took it. I had no clue as to the process. She took my idea and made a computer drawing for me to review. I tweaked it a little, she revised it and I loved it, so she made a stencil. She took me back to her studio which was bright, airy and neatly organized. The tattoo needle head was hermetically sealed and she opened it in front of me. She explained what she would be doing then cleaned and shaved my arm then cleaned it again. She applied the stencil where I thought I wanted it. She told me to get up and look in the full length mirror to make sure. I decided to move it to the underside, center of my forearm. I asked her to start with the dot and the E (Dottie) just in case I couldn't take it. Honestly, I've had wasp stings that hurt worse so I told her to keep going and I'm so glad I did! She applied Saniderm tape and explained how to take care of it. I purchased their $10 care pack that included a small bottle of liquid soap (smelled like Dial), 6 packets of Aquaphor and a tiny bottle of Lubriderm lotion. I chose to use my own Provon soap that I ordered from Amazon. My tattoo never went thru a messy stage and there was no scabbing or itchiness. My only suggestion for Art Attack is for them to update their website to show their new aftercare guidelines and they do not sell After Inked products so I'm not sure why they are listed. I highly recommend Kaylie!

Jennifer was excellent. The owner and her helped me size and position my custom tattoo and even helped me with the design. The color pops! They also do piercings at Art Attack and had people coming in and out for consultations and estimates. I'll definitely be back for another tattoo. The entire staff was knowledgable, professional, and real up front about everything. Again, the art work and shading was spot on with what I wanted. I'll definitely be back!!

Excellent experience, I was in Winston-Salem for just a short time and Jennifer was great, friendly and helped me tweak my idea until it was perfect and the tattoo turned out great.

I have debated a lot in the past few hours about whether or not I should leave a review and have…read morecome to the conclusion that it is the right thing to do in order to prevent others from having the same experience I did. My friend and I went to Tattoo Therapy today around 1pm inquiring about walk in availability. We were told there was only one artist working today but that she could fit us in. There was one person ahead of us, who was getting an extremely simple tattoo and somehow we still waited for over an hour. No big deal, it happens. When we did end up going to the back there were immediate red flags but we chose to give the artist the benefit of the doubt, my friend's tattoo was finished after about an hour and looked decent, I however, can not say the same for mine. I sat in the chair for upwards of two hours for a less than sub par tattoo, the artist clearly knew she had effed up and spent most of this time trying to fix and cover up very obvious errors. All of the lines are shaky, they are also uneven in width, and in some places the stencil was very clearly not even being followed. Upon leaving the shop, I was not even close to happy with the work I had just gotten done, but was not initially planning on leaving any type of review. That is, until I found the artist on instagram and found out she is an apprentice and has only been officially licensed for about four months, information that was not disclosed to us whatsoever, she mentioned towards the end of the session that she had only been tattooing for a little less than a year, but at that point, clearly, since it was nearing the end, it was too late to do anything with that information. She also continually repeated that it would be ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for me to come back in for a touch up... If you are having to assume that immediately upon healing your work will need any type of alteration, then something isn't right.Honestly I am most disappointed with the fact that we were extremely (and seemingly intentionally) mislead, as someone who has participated in a tattoo apprenticeship before this entire situation was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Had we been properly informed of the skill level and experience of the artist to begin with, we would have had the opportunity to make our own decision based on the information provided. Everyone involved should have been straightforward about the fact that the piece I asked for was not something that was part of the artist's skill set, and probably wouldn't turn out the way I wanted. Customer satisfaction is clearly not the main priority of this business if this behavior is deemed acceptable. If you do still insist on getting a tattoo from here, do NOT get it from Charity. She is an apprentice but that information is NOT disclosed to you. Her line work is not acceptable at all. She is very inconsistent and cannot follow a simple stencil. I understand that the art of tattooing is difficult, but there is no reason she should even be allowed to tattoo on real human skin at this point in her learning process, especially without properly informing clients of her level of skill and experience. It is beyond reckless for the owners to allow this (below) subpar work in their place of business, especially at the price point of an experienced professional. I will allow grace for her still being an apprentice, but good God. For something that is permanently etched into your skin, you would think the owners would have enough care and concern to put someone on the floor who is equipped for the task. This isn't a hobby you can just pick up one day, you can't afford to make mistakes on a PERMANENT tattoo. I am extremely upset and disappointed, and honestly am unsure if this tattoo can even be salvaged by someone more experienced, I am upset that I wasted my time and money, but most of all that I will have to look at this tattoo on my body for the rest of my life.

I showed back up and he was very attentive to all the details I wanted, which was crucial for this piece. I got the Joestar birthmark tattoo from the Jojo's Bizzare Adventures manga. The actual tattooing was such a breeze and Damon's vibes during this process was perfection. I'm excited to say I found my new tattoo home and plan on coming back for more pieces soon.

Overall, my piece took about 2 hours to complete and was a dedication to my aunt for Mother's Day. Upon entry, I would've preferred a quicker and more friendly greeting. I was not acknowledged immediately, although staff members were standing within sight. I think there could be a better system for guests, especially new customers. My friend who accompanied me received a piercing. The individual conducting piercings for the day was pleasant and well informed. He allowed for my friend to feel comfortable and ultimately have a smooth transaction. Her process took about 45 minutes with aftercare and preparation included. I might return for other work but was content with the outcome. I can agree with some other posts of pricing being a bit expensive depending on the artists and desired service.

I emailed this studio via their website, and explained my vision for what I wanted with my tattoo. I wanted a blue ribbon, with the words "Rectal Cancer Survivor" around it. I said I was willing to have the artist come up with a rendition of what I was describing. They told me they had booked me an appointment for the day I specified, with a certain artist. The day of the appointment came, and I headed in. When I got there and told them I had an appointment with that artist, they told me he wasn't in that day. They said they had another artist available, so I agreed to see him. Of course, he had no clue what design I had talked about in my previous email conversations. I described it to him, and he went off to create a design. After a little tweaking, I agreed to the design he had come up with. As he was about to put the stencil on my arm, he asked me if I was sure I wanted "that word" tattooed on me. I said yes. He put the stencil on, then asked me again. I again, said yes. He asked me a third time right as he had the tattoo machine poised over my skin. For a third time, I said yes. I don't think he would have asked me that question so many times if I had been a breast cancer survivor. My cancer happened to grow in my rectum, I can't help that, I didn't choose it. It is a body part, like any other. One of the reasons I wanted the tattoo was to help normalize the word rectum, and start conversations about colorectal cancer. It was like he was trying to make me feel dirty for having "that word" tattooed on my body where people could see it. For what it is worth, I like my tattoo. And it really has started conversations about colorectal cancer.
