They didn't have a drinks menu, which our server said they had been waiting 5 years for them? I had the ground beef nachos off the appetizer menu and it was exactly what I wanted. Most of the dishes here are very spicy and this was very much NOT spicy at all and exactly what I wanted. I think shredded beef or shredded chicken would have been more flavorful if you wanted it. I was visiting from California to see friends in Arizona. We decided to go out for dinner and Mexican food with good chips and salsa sounded delicious. So my friends suggested this place. We went on a Sunday night so there weren't many people. Service was fast and our server was really great. I got a veggie enchilada and a virgin strawberry margarita. My friends got different enchiladas with rice and beans. They brought us 2 different salsa and a bean dip with the chips. The salsa was really good, I really liked the bean dip. Been here a few times and service is always great and that was the same this time around. When we opened our menus the plastic cover is torn up and breaking some is hard to read. They are old and need to be replaced not a good look. We decided to share a Mexican pizza. Any other Mexican pizza we have ordered has a sauce and maybe beans. This was just 2 tortillas stacked with nothing in between, cheese on top and we added chicken. It was a boring meal. I know each does it differently but can you call it a pizza without sauce. I had never been to this location by Arrowhead Mall before. We went for lunch and the $9.99 special sounded excellent. It was two hard tacos with rice and beans. Of course, chips and salsa and their famous bean dip are complementary. It's nice that they haven't jumped on the "charging for chips" bandwagon for this. Arriba is known for their hot hatch chili infested foods. The salsa was fairly mild and thick enough that it didn't drip all over your clothes. I know there's a hotter option too. There was a choice on the tacos of shredded beef, chicken or ground beef. We both decided on the shredded beef as it's always been good there. This was no different. Kind of plain tasting beef, but the taco was stuffed with cheese and lettuce. I could barely eat one as it was huge. Rice and beans were average, which is still pretty good. Arriba is kind of a dark place maybe because their locations are old and a bit rundown. But this one was brighter. It's the similar layout to their locations on Camelback and in Ahwatukee. Although we were there for lunch and only drank iced tea, I would recommend their happy hour specials, especially on margaritas. And their happy hour has tremendous deals on cheese crisps with hatch chili, plain cheese crisp, and other items like taquitos. Also on their beers. Iced tea Refills are plentiful and we really had no complaints. I will go there just about every time I go to the valley. read more

We were seated right away. The booths are tiny in the bar. Our waitress took our drink order and after some time brought out the drinks and chips and salsa and bean dip. We took a minute to look at the menu. The chicken Mexican pizza tasted ok but is very heavy with the two tortillas. The chimichanga with pork in it like the white sand chimi. The pork was soupy and very wet it ruins the texture of the chimi. The sample plate was decent. About what you would expect. We asked for more salsa and beans and they were very slow to come out. With four of us those small bowls disappear rather quickly. It has been awhile since I have been to this location and I will say the service hasn't changed. read more

We thought we would try a different place for Mexican food so this place was convenient. It did not seem busy but it took forever for a server. We placed our order. The coke was delivered but my glass of wine never made it. It seemed like there were plenty of people around but everyone ignored us. For probably only the second time in my life we left some $$ on the table for the coke and chips and salsa and left. Very bad service, very disappointed. Opted to try a new Mexican restaurant in the area this evening for dinner. Super convenient location right off Bell x 79th on the border of Peoria / Glendale near Arrowhead. Plenty of ample parking. There was a little bit of a wait this evening, but it was only 15-20 min. so not a huge ordeal. We were greeted immediately. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous despite how busy they were. The parking lot and entry way are very clean, as well. The booths and tables are spaced out so you don't feel as though you're right on top of everyone. Our booth was wiped clean and our server greeted us as soon as we were seated. Fresh chips 'n salsas on the table. Their menu is quite varied. I'm sure some of the foodie elitists and locals who undoubtedly grew up in a tiny village in rural Mexico will have qualms with the authenticity of the dishes... but for a mere mortal such as myself, I enjoyed my meal. I went with the tacos al carbon. The corn tortillas were soft and fresh without being crumbly like a typical dried out soft corn tortilla. The beef was tender and flavorful. The pico, cabbage and onions were fresh, crispy and complimented my tacos perfectly. Prices were on par with most any other table fare Mexican restaurant in the area. Our drinks were refilled constantly without ever asking and our server checked on us frequently without being overbearing. I can't speak to the individuals on Yelp who hated their dining experience at Arriba's. My wife and I both enjoyed ourselves and our Friday evening here. The server...not so much. Can't remember his name but he had a long beard which he styled by wrapping a cord around it. He was running both the bar & bar seating area (on this slow night). We had to ask for drink refills for the whole table multiple times, had to ask for a chip refill and the dirty plates sat for about 40 minutes and I'm being gracious. My first margarita was very watered down, no alcohol and no taste really, I didn't tell her anything and drank it all but it wasn't great. I love this place so much. I even worked here when I was younger, things have changed A LOT! Service here is a priority for the manager's however not for all the staff. Unfortunately due to covid-19 it seems staffing has taken ia hit, which changes their flavor up a bit and that will either be a good or bad thing for you. One day I even asked another guest if things has changed their response in short was they limit it to 2 things on the menu. They told me how amazing it was and we went our separate ways. Tonight our original waitress didn't acknowledge us for atleast 15minutes after sitting down, finally she with chips and salsa asks what we wanted to drink (completely quiet ) when I tell her the drinks I also try to let her know we are ready to order and I needed something but she tuned tuned back and left. I was only trying to help. I noticed we didn't have silverware so I went and got it along with another tables and some extra napkins. Things just got worse. I even tried asking if she was ok. You have to cross over a small bridge at the entrance and the outside is so brightly covered that they do a great job of making you feel that you're being transported to a fun locale. Now the terrible stuff. No one really seemed like they wanted to be working there. The salsa is terrible. The chips may be worse than the salsa. I can't remember having worse Mexican rice (I wish I could use a neuralyzer to forget this experience). For a beer and a lunch item it cost $23. Now for the good. The Chile Colorado was out of this world good. The beef was perfectly tender, the spice level was right on point, and that sauce was full of flavor. I give them 3 stars because their staff was really nice but their food was not good. Maybe I'm spoiled with food from the Bay Area, but this was not good food at all. The carnitas were dry and had a funny taste to them, the chili Colorado tasted horrible and does not taste like what I'm used to from good Mexican restaurants. If you want good Mexican food, I cannot recommend this place, but if you just want good service, this place did pick good staff. The staff were very kind and caring, wanting to check on you and make sure you were ok. Helped me get steak tacos to replace the carnitas tacos that did not taste good. Very friendly staff. Stopped by for a quick lunch, it had been years since we ate here. Place was almost empty so service was fast and friendly. Keep in mind this is more Tex-Mex ( more like New Mexico- Mex) but it's very good nonetheless. The white sands chimichanga is our go to but opted for the bandera trio enchiladas and the poco pollo con queso chimichanga, both very good. My 6 year old wasn't very thrilled to eat here but was happy with the option of hamburger from the kids menu. She ended up loving the enchiladas and didn't even touch her burger. I have not been to this Arriba since I moved to Los Angeles, but we were driving back home and we stopped in for a quick bite. The food was just as good as I remembered, and the service was still top notch. Most importantly, the staff was so kind and accommodating to our family as I had my emotional support dog with us-they generously set us up on the patio so he could stretch his legs.
