The Nachos had gas station cheese on them and old ground beef that was stuck together like it had been sitting in a roaster for hours. First, the ambiance of the barn was very pleasing. Brett, our server, was personable and although service was not speedy, it was fine for a relaxing lunch. The chips were fresh and the salsa was flavorful and not runny. Husband had the burger which he liked. Fries were good. I ordered the enchiladas suiza without chicken and asked to substitute black beans for the borracho (non vegetarian) beans. I was surprised when the black beans were cold but then realized it was more of a salad and they were tasty. Unfortunately the enchiladas were lackluster - heavy on the sauce and skimpy on the filling and not very flavorful. That amazing and expensive fact alone earns it 3 stars...so although the ambiance here is somewhat corporate scrubbed, this place is the definition of rustic, authentic and it is relaxing (see the folks in the fireplace grotto, who are not us). Another two stars for the yummy guacamole and queso dish, and fresh chips. Plus these kids know how to make a cocktail. My old-fashioned was one of the best I've had. People around us were also enjoying tacos and good looking salads. The food will be good. Had to take away a star because our server really overstepped with us. The first two times she asked if we wanted something else, you can understand. But the next couple of times she asked annoyed us. We just wanted some apps and drinks. Yeah, I'm fat. The service was great, and even though busy our waitress was top notch, and the only reason for 2 stars. They are definitely price gouging because; well they can. I ordered the Cod tacos that came with an ear of corn, a spoon for rice and beans... Okay first of all the corn was the best thing, but it was extremely far from "Mexican style." It was just some corn with a little garlic or something on it, the cod was good, and came in two corn tortillas, but they weren't even cooked first, just raw out of a bag! Next the spoon full of beans was out of a can, and the spoon full of rice tasted like Uncle Ben. Absolutely the worst Mexican food "if you can even call it that" I've ever had. I'm not remotely trying to sound stereotypical, but maybe they should train the Indians working in Hispanic foods... Regardless at $15 a plate you're better off going somewhere else. What a beautiful, picturesque place to eat. We were told there would be a 45 minute to an hour wait which we were fine with. An hour goes by and we had to ask where we were on the list. No communication up to this point by the hostesses (we were sitting right near their station) and upon our asking we were told they had a 10 top and an 8 top table (there were 8 of us). Both were busy; however, we had 5 adults and 3 children. Tables were sitting there uncleared and no one could jump in to help clear (there were 2 hostesses that kept looking at the seating chart and nothing else). They could not figure out how to put us at a table for 6 and add 2 more chairs. Finally we get seated and the hostess asks how many children. We told her 3 and low and behold we get 2 kids menus. Had to ask for the third menu and when we did so, we overheard a manager request one of the hostesses to help clear tables. Once seated our server was very nice and friendly. Our order was taken and arrived in a timely manner. Not much variety on the menu. Food was sub-par but our server was great. Good personality and upbeat. This is the second time we have eaten here with out of town family and everyone agreed we will not be returning again. We stayed at Big Cedar Lodge four days and sampled most of the restaurants. Arnie's Barn was by far our favorite. We sat at the bar, because they were packed with families and happy tourists. We shared a combination plate and the house chips. Flavorful and fresh. The Big Cedar Lodge Amber Logger was really wonderful. We would buy this in the grocery store, but it's only sold on site. The wait staff was friendly and gave some great tips that improved our stay. Thanks for being a highlight of our vacation. read more

My brother in law ordered the "special" fajitas with 8 oz of steak. There were maybe 3oz of meat and even less peppers. There was so little of actual ingredients in the fajita that he had an extra tortilla left over. This place is down right expensive. This also was the only restaurant open , with all of the population. We paid $22 for a burger I could have made at home, it was nothing special. My son ordered the enchiladas with nasty gunky green sauce and was extremely disappointed. The appetizer was extremely over priced $16 for some cheese fries with a little meat. My husband got the fish tacos and had food poisoning for 3 days straight. The complimentary chips and salsa is the only reason i'm giving this place any stars. We came down to Big Cedar but ended up spending an entire day at Top of the Rock. The place is ridiculously gorgeous, inside and out! It is definitely pricey for food and activity but still worth it. We went to the Osage and Arnie's Barn restaurants. Both excellent with good service. We also checked out the museum where my favorite parts were the historical animal exhibits. Very fun and impressive. The coolest part was taking a golf cart drive around the property and through a cave. There was even a fun little drive up bar inside!! So many waterfalls and picturesque spots where you can take your time and get out of the cart for picture taking. For two adults for lunch, the museum and a cave tour, we spent $150. read more

My husbands combo plate was swimming in liquid everything was soggy and inedible - definitely not worth the money overpriced for sure but the view is great $3.25 for ice tea is a bit high the view is great. Let me do everyone a favor and explain how to get there. It's located within the Top of the Rock tourist area which means you have to pay $10 to get in the gate (or show your room key if you're staying at Big Cedar). You can then either proceed directly to the clubhouse and pay another $10 to valet or park at the tourist lot and rake the free shuttle. There are also no signs when you get to the building, so ask someone or proceed toward your right when you come in the door and you'll figure it out. Now, we got there near opening time and there was no wait, but was getting pretty busy when we left. There were many families with kids. Sadly, no kids menu, but there are some good appetizers to work with. There is apparently an improved menu of late if you're reading old reviews. Our food was all good with the only problem being that the enchiladas were cold. Really no excuse for a Mexican restaurant that can't heat enchiladas before serving. I'll assume this was an anomaly, but be ready to check and send them back! Prices were pretty reasonable compared to other resort dining. read more

I can't speak for the mexican food but their Thanksgiving dinner buffet was terrible, especially for $130+ for 2 adults and an 8 year old. Turkey was dry and stuffing was wet (not just moist...a lot of liquid) and everything else was merely OK. This is the 2nd year in a row we tried this and have been terribly disappointed both times. In my opinion a chain buffet is way better for a 3rd of the cost. We won't be back to eat. Service was very good. The facilities are top notch and the museum below is a must-see. Views are excellent. I struggled with how to write this review. I am hoping that this can be contructive criticism that promotes change in the organization. It's a beautiful building with a lot of potential. My husband and I were on a relaxing outing in Branson. We have been to Top of the Rock before for golf and dinner. 1. We pull up to the entrance and let them know that we are interested in entrance to TOR for golf and dinner. We pay our $10 and don't receive either a brochure detailing what the facility has to offer or which restaurants are available to us. What we did get was the employee at the entrance letting us know that they will no longer let anyone use the driving range that doesn't have a pre-arranged tee time...and that the $10 entrance fee is not credited towards dinner. OK so maybe no golf, we will just get something to eat. 2. Pulling up to the free parking area one realizes that there are no signs telling you that there is a shuttle service from the free parking area to the restaurants (is there?). In addition, while I love to walk there is no one actually stopping by to find out if you would like a shuttle ride either ( tough on seniors I imagine). To boot, the staff parking is closer to the restaurant than the guest parking. I've worked in a lot of service industry positions over the years and have never seen that arrangement . 3. The golf shop has a nice selection of merchandise. Not overwarm in service either. 4. The restaurant Arnies Barn was where the most glaring lapses in service occurred . We walked in at about 4:35pm this last Saturday looking for drinks and food. We walked over to the hostess stand with smiles on our faces and kindly let the hostess know that we were there to eat. First off, we were much warmer in our approach towards her then she was towards us. She pulled a face when my husband put his elbows on the counter and then proceeded to tell us that the restaurant closed in 22 minutes so we couldn't sit outside or any of the main tables. She did indicate however that we "might" be able to go over to the bar if we just wanted a quick appetizer or drink. She then indicated back over her shoulder without giving us any menus that the bar was "that way". My husband asked if they/anyone else opens back up for dinner and she clearly stated no. If memory serves correctly the Osage is open until 9 PM unless I am mistaken. She is telling customers that there is no place in the building for food or drink after five on a Saturday . 5. Approximately 50 feet away is the bar..we walk up and the bartender does not quit leaning on the counter when he asked us if we just want a drink "real quick"? Real quick? It's not even 5 on a Saturday and we are clearly dressed for dinner. No one at this place wants to actually serve customers. Again there was no mention of sitting outside at the Osage . At this point I told my husband that perhaps we should go and spend our money someplace else. Every employee that we had encountered was intent on telling us what we couldn't do. What I knew I couldn't do was play golf, get dinner, have a glass of wine or get a ride from my car to the restaurant. I was never invited to dine in another part of the establishment or given any info on the tours/attractions. I have had many jobs as a server at restaurants over the years and I can promise you that even the loosest service codes far exceeded our experience at Top of the Rock ! read more

There is sometimes a moment when you are in disbelief that a meal could be so bad; this is that moment. The natural beauty of the surroundings and the restaurant itself were unable to save this meal - yes, the food is that bad. Our party of 8 was promptly greeted and waited only a short while for a table. Our waiter took a bit of time to get to us, but he was respectful and polite. I had a drink called the Paloma (I think that is what it was called), and it was one of the okay-est drinks I've had. My husband and our companions had beer, of which the restaurant has a limited selection. We ordered the guacamole sampler and queso to start with, along with the salsa and chips that are brought to all tables. While the presentation of the chips and salsa is adorable, the salsa itself is just tomatoes and water. There is ZERO flavor to this salsa, and if you like eating diced tomatoes out of a can you'll love it. The queso is listed in the small plates section, and they are not kidding. The portion that came out was smaller than an iPad mini, and was bland with chunks of what was supposed to be chorizo in it (we questioned the authenticity of that statement). For the guacamole you are able to select 3 of the 4 kinds they have, and we chose the Bacon, Mango, and Citrus Crab. The guacamole itself was incredibly bland and had no flavor. It tasted like just mashed up avocado, and for $15 for a portion the size of a cup I kind of expected something a bit more. The Bacon was...interesting. There were large pieces of bacon cut up in the mashed avocado. That was really all that was bacon about it. There was some queso fresco sprinkled on top that was just a hot mess and added nothing to the dish. There was no trace of the "roasted corn salsa" listed on the menu. The Mango had diced mango mixed in, and I like mango, so that one was not inedible. There was no hint of any kind of chili, much less a "pickled fresno chili," but it didn't turn my stomach so it was a plus. The Citrus Crab was a disaster. They basically took the bland guacamole as the base, dumped canned crab meat on top, squeezed some some sort of lemon/lime combo over it and called it good. We called it gross. After sampling it we found the crab meat to taste bad...we live on the Gulf Coast in Southeast Texas and are accustomed to fresh seafood. This was definitely not that. After the opening round of disappointment we received our main courses. The kids had burgers, the kids' nachos, and the beef and chorizo nachos. The burger's description sounds amazing on the menu, and honestly they were the best thing anyone had. The fries were also prepared well and not overly seasoned. The nachos, however, were not prepared well. They were just a pile of (mostly) broken chips and the above-mentioned poorly-executed queso poured over the top. The beef and chorizo nachos had some chunks of the meat mixed in. While we generally enjoy cotija cheese, this tasted like it was a prepackaged dish from the freezer section of the local grocery store. My friend and I had the combo plate, and our husbands had the braised beef enchiladas. The first thing we noticed was that ALL of our food was cold. The refried pinto beans that come with it were dried out and flaky on the plates, and the rice was hard enough to be crunchy when we took bites. The Mexico City Street Corn is anything but; it was boiled, not roasted, and the mayo/seasonings are slathered across the top. This was probably the most edible thing on our plates, though. The braised beef enchiladas were dry and poorly seasoned. There was no flavor to the meat, and the chipotle tomato sauce tasted like diced tomatillos that were out of a can - again, no flavor. The combo plate was a disaster and is now a cautionary tale for all we meet. Besides the dry and flaky beans and tooth-breaking rice, the food was just awful. My friend and I each took a bite of the cod taco and had to move the fish away from us, cover it with a napkin, and pray that we hadn't just gotten food poisoning. It tasted fishy and old, and those two things should never be said about a fish taco. The chicken enchilada was not the worst thing I've ever eaten, but as the dish is currently listed at $24 when you order just the Chicken Enchilada plate, I kind of want more than "not the worst I've ever eaten." The chicken was okay, but tortilla and tomatillo sauce took away from any positive it might have contributed to this terrible meal. The last part of our combo plate was the pork quesadilla with pepper jack cheese. These tasted like they had been made the day before and reheated for this meal. That is probably the nicest thing I can say about that. I heartily caution people to avoid this place, and will never go back again. I will also tell every person I know to avoid it. This food has no right to call itself Mexican food, much less edible food, and it certainly was not worth $130 before tip for 4 people. read more

AWESOME! Osage Restaurant is perfect. My dining partners each loved every bite. A few unusual combinations proved to be crave-worthy (tomato and peach salad). Prices seem high at first, but the portions are fairly generous and include both potato and veggies. Other steak houses often charge for sides, so the overall net-net is about the same price. However, the views alone are worth the price. A sunset dinner proved to provide a PERFECT summer evening experience. After dinner walk thru the wine cellar and the chapel. Along the way the views over the infinity pool and lake are breathtakingly incredible. I would advise staying away from the "signature chicken dish". It has gotten poor reviews on line and diners near us gave the same feedback. This place is unbelievable. The entrance isn't marked well and the signage is a bit hokey, but once you get into the property it will take your breath way. The parking is either valet ($10) or you park at the visitor center and take a shuttle to the restaurant. There is no general parking lot at the restaurant itself. read more
