So I'm giving this place a 4/5 because I wasn't a fan of the goods section- purses, coats, etc but i loved the food options in the food court. So the market where you can buy goods, I'd give a 3/5 but the food section a 5/5. High yield: Food area is full of delicious eats from various parts of the world, with excellent prices (less than 10 pounds for large portion), produce market, excellent fish market, and chill atmosphere. I thought the goods section was full of shoddy cheap fares that looked enticing to travelers, but probably wouldn't last when you get home. Details Food: Depends on what you want. I thought the best foods if you are a health conscious person like myself, should go for the Greek, the kebabs, roasted chicken, and avoid things that are fried like samosas, afro carribbean, or Chinese. But if you are hungry and wanting something rich, go for those latter ones that I listed. You can't go wrong, everything looks good. I avoided things heavy in carbohydrates like the french baguettes which honestly looked too doughy and pale (need to be baked when you buy) for me. I recommend Meditarranean and Turkish food for the best blend of healthy and good. Produce- the fish market and the fresh produce look boss. I went to the fruit stand and there's a half off rack and you can pick up some nice cheap produce for a snack if you're someone needing their 5 a day like me. Goods: It's a tourist trap. They sell like winter coats for 15 pounds but the quality is not good. So for travelers who don't shop often, do not be tricked by the glitzy and the price. You pay for what you get- cheap quality will get you shoddy materials- good for kids who want cute cheap touristy presents Price: Cheap. But I recommend if you want quality produce, just make a left outta arndale market to Aldi and get good solid produce. If you want clothes and stuff, you'll still find quality- this mall is MASSIVE. But if you want good food, this is the PLACE to be, b/c even the food court in this mall is fast food American and others are just sit down restaurants. read more

I think that when faced with the utter predictability of all the massive shops in the Arndale Centre, that the Arndale Markets are a welcome relief. It's nice to see a bit of independence going on. Most of the clothes shops in the Arndale Market are a bit naff, to be fair. If you're looking for cutting edge fashion, then the mainstream shops are unfortunately the place to go. However, the food section of the market is really awesome. Loads of small eateries, with food from all over the world. There's a couple of delicatessen counters and even a miniature pub. All very cool and a way better place to get your lunch than the food hall on the other side of the Arndale where your best bet is a Subway. read more

I absolutely disagree with these 2 reviews. Manchester Arndale Market clearly has a reputation to shake, but you can do much worse than to find yourself here. Just look at the list of things you can purchase here: fish, meat, fruit and veg, gorgeous flowers, deli products, jewellery, specialty ales, specialty cheeses, breads, electrical goods, clothes, household goods. Not only that, but there's a hairdressers, nail salon, key cutting service, shoe service...the list goes on. You might think this market is all quantity not quality, but you'll be wrong again. Sure it takes sorting a little bit of wheat from the chaff, but you won't find a lot of the Imported goods, exotic fruit and vegetables or fresh fish anywhere else in town at these prices. read more

I have major problems with Arndale Market. I am not a fan of the indoor Markets to begin with but one in the Arndale....surely this is the lowest of the low. I suppose the only benefit is that you escape the Arndale itself! I can comment on the service as I have not been into the market itself due t the smell of meat that hits you as you approach. My friends have told me there are good stalls especially if you want something in particular such as accessories for a fancy dress. I am sure there are great stalls here however I believe these indoor markets are a little dated now and that we need a new alternative. The Arndale Market is basically a food to go market in The Manchester Arndale, it is actually quite big with one size focusing on food and the other, they is a likes of card shops, barber shops and beauty shops. Around the non-food side the overwhelming smell of beauty products is awful and off putting, hence is one of the reasons I rarely visit that side, and that most of it is filled will rubbish and honestly some of the products are charity shop quality. The food markets don't look too appetising either, gluten free seems to be very poor, and they are also off putting smells and looks of the food and hence, many of these places I wouldn't trust to eat from, even companies like Wing's who are based here. They is a smoothie bar here, and like a few other places here it is overpriced and as I recall most of the things here is not very good quality, I even got a haircut off this market and it was terrible, and I had to go somewhere else to tidy it up and it wasn't cheap either. The Arndale Market is in a good location, opposite TEA42 and The Co-operative and very close to Shudehill and the 2nd floor Arndale exit near Nando's and Waterstones, simply I would recommend going outside the Arndale for something to eat to independent chains, or even the Nando's in the Arndale, if you want good food, at reasonable prices and avoiding the mayhem of the food court. I give 2 stars purely because it would be unfair to penalise other stalls for something they have not been a part of, and I don't feel this place deserves a single 1 star rating, but still I still feel 2 stars is a little generous and it may have to be revised in the near future. read more

I really like the Arndale Market and I find myself visiting more and more regularly for my lunch! You've got a bunch of different options and a vast array of cuisines are covered so there is pretty much something for everyone! There isn't a whole host of seating so it may fit you better to grab some lunch as a takeaway and head off but if you're lucky you'll get a seat! I could only recommend Panchos or Viet Shack personally as they are the two I've tried but there is so much option you can go wrong! read more

The arndale market is an excellent market that is completely overlooked. Entering from the doors on Shudehill / High St you have the market stalls on the left, selling all different types of garments, shoes and jewellry to your standard mobile phone stall that sell cases and do network unlocking and all that blurb. The right hand side is my favourite place - a foodie haven of different nationalities of food. Here there's a fish market, meat market, fruit and veg stall, even a sweet stall. The Queen Brie, one of my favourite cheese shops in MCR is always there to cater to your cheese fiend needs and of course, who could forget Wings Chinese, Pancho's Burritos and the awesomeness that is Viet Shack, are all stationed here! It gets packed at lunch times, so get there quick before the majority sell out. read more

Just incredible. I posted about this one already but it vanished! This market is a true dream, tonnes of authentic local vendors selling amazing food. You have Zorbas with the most incredible Stifado, you have a truly immense burrito bar which kicks the ass of Barburrito. There are also veg shops, a crepes place, a joyful Indian counter, pizza by the slice and a micro bar. Boom. Then you have the fish market which has been a integral part of the Manchester underground since years gone by. It's smelly, but great. I remember traveling to it in the underneath of the Arndale in the 80s. it was like Blade Runner on a sugar induced hallucination trip - triggered by Opal Fruits and ended by a smacked arse. Oh the nostalgia! Go to the Arndale. I often go here hoping to find my Nana, but she's dead. read more

The Arndale Market is a weird combination of everything I liked about Manchester. It's almost defiantly grubby. The rest of the Arndale shopping centre is slick and professional, while the market is tucked away in its own little chaotic corner. There's a great choice of food and drink, so my lunch looked like a hastily convened UN meeting. The delegates from Greece and Jamaica were especially tasty. Like any market, there's a few dodgy stalls too. But I'm a sucker for jerk chicken so I'm just going to gloss over them and give this four stars. read more

The Arndale Market used to be rubbish. It basically sold plasticy shoes that would fall apart in a week, and a range of fake designer jeans and hoodies. Calvin Klassics anyone?! Now it still sells a small bit of tat, but a market wouldn't be a market without tat. However, the food part of the market is the real reason to go. Where else can you buy a curry, sushi, falafel, an Oreo milkshake, pizza, real ale, cheese and a couple of red snapper all under one roof?! There are plenty of tables to eat at, which are cleaned more regularly than those at the food court. If it seems packed then there are usually some stools free with people watching opportunities. Thank you Arndale Market, for I need never set foot in the food court again! read more

I have kept away from the Arndale Centre like it's got the plague (I Hate shopping Centres). Yesterday I found out it has a market as well as the shopping centre so I called in. What a surprise. I has all the usual stuff like shoes, coats, nails etc. but also a separate food hall with a surprise. A Micro Bar owned by a Micro Brewery serving real Ale. There's a good Fish and Meat stall with loads of hot food outlets. I will return on future trips to Manchester. Well done Arndale Market. read more

Gawd I remember being dragged around here back in the day when I was a kid, and if we came in from the Arndale entrance I used to take a giant gulp of air and hold my breath and hope that it'd keep me going for the extended duration I always deemed was more than necessary to be here, and hope I wouldn't pass out from not doing that whole respiratory thing my body is accustomed to. Over the past few years, the market has been a regular mocking ground for the crap and undesirable, there's the stock joke shop upstairs that ceased to be funny many years ago, and the old guy who owned it was always evil looking, the saving grace was the nut stand, man those honey covered nuts were divine, but the whole gangster clothing for boys and hooker clothing for girls was just an excuse to walk on by and mock the place. More recently though, the markets have had a bit of a makeover, and whilst it isn't the coolest place in town to hang around, the smell has subsided somewhat, and the masses of crap clothing have been pared down. There's the odd unique stall selling select items appealing to a specific sector of clientele in the Manchester area, but that's their own for their own innit? Food wise, the market seems to have established itself as a bit of a venue, more than a walk through to get the centre, it's actually got a purpose for staying, and seems to be attracting more people through the doors for this reason. I guess the older generations who did enjoy the many erm, traditional delights of the older market's offerings will disagree, but luckily for us, they lost and we won. read more

Go Angela! I completely agree, I love Manchester Arndale Market. I walk through here deliberately most days, it's very much a detour but I love it. It's got some fantastic stalls, see separate reviews of M1lkshake and Smoothielicious Smoothies, two of my favourite places in Manchester. You've also got Wings Chinese, the great albeit smelly fishmongers and the fantastic (as seen on Come Dine With Me) flower shop...and that's just one half of the market. You've also got the non-food side to consider too! The fancy dress shop here is good, not the best in the city but definitely one of the cheapest! And the staff are really friendly and helpful. I've also visited the phone shop in here quite a few times to have my phone fixed or buy accessories, the service has always been very professional and much cheaper and quicker than sending off your phone to a manufacturer. So don't be put off by the bad reviews, give the market a try! read more

So. In my search to stop lining the supermarkets' pockets and get myself some local produce, I was brought to the Arndale Markets, which back in 2006 had a hugely successful re-opening and have now become the very heart of local shopping. The rejuvenation has done it wonders. Now it's actually a great place to have lunch with a range of eateries in stall format - you can get smoothies, pizza, paninis, kebabs, Brazilian food, Jamaican jerk chicken, cheeses, Chinese, and many more. And the fact that these places are so close together means that if you want one thing and your significant other wants something else, which is often the case with us, it's perfect. Plus the crepe stall is irresistible. As for fresh fruit and veg, look no further. Feel better in the knowledge that what you're buying is ethically better, higher quality and locally sourced. Deli counters with olives, sausages and snacks make it great for picking up nibbles for the evening if you've found yourself filling up too much in the day, and it was recommended to us when we were looking for more unusual fish in Sainsbury's once - you can find all sorts of marine life at bargain prices to munch at the fish counters, that's for sure. This is definitely the place to pick up your meat too. When it comes to non-food, what was previously a market which resembled Stacey's clothing stall in Eastenders with its... questionable outfits, now is far more upmarket, quirky and interesting, more like Camden or suchlike. But you can still get plenty of fancy dress here so don't worry! There are even knick knacks to help furnish your flat. And with specialist beers from all over the region, you can give your flat a good warming too. Need a haircut or a manicure? The market even covers this. You could spend the entire day under one roof covering all your errands... plus, the under one roof thing really helps when the weather's nasty. read more

Arndale Market is a peculiar place. When I visited it for the very first time several years ago it smelt with carpets, glue, and fish, and was extremely crowded. It felt almost medieval. I resumed going there in 2008 when I started living in Manchester city centre. The market looked (and smelt) more civilised, and was way cheaper than shops. I go there for my fruit and veg, and I love loitering at the bottom end of the market where butchers and fishmongers sell their produce. I've seen it all: pheasants, rabbits, sharks, succulent oysters... There may be more impressive fish and meat markets, like the one in Birmingham's Bull Ring, but for Manchester Arndale Market makes just the right cut, given the competition with Gabbott's Farm and various supermarkets. They also sell lots of continental cheese and pasta, and the milkshakes from the small cafe are really good. And if you fancy something unusual, take a stroll along the dress stands. If you are into kinky stuff, you may very well leave the market equipped with a pair of PVC boots and some naughty outfit. Why not? Once upon a time, the Arndale Market was rubbish. REALLY rubbish. It was all underground, dark and stank of fish - and the only shops there sold dodgy sex toys and incredibly unfashionable clothes. I remember my aunty taking me there when I was wee, and being totally terrified of the place, despite her trying to mollify me with sweets and tales of how she used to come there to buy all her gladrags in the 1960s. Nowadays however, that's all changed, thanks to a rather expensive facelift and a huge marketing campaign propelling it into the consciousness of every Mancunian. Indeed, a trip around the Arndale Market is an absolute delight. This mainly is because of its excellent selection of food and drink stalls. Every culinary culture under the sun is represented here - indeed, I can think of few other places in Manchester where you could get smoked chillies, curry, sushi, falafel, Oreo milkshakes, pizza, real ale, cheese and a couple of red snappers all under one roof. As for fresh fruit and veg, look no further. Most of the stuff on sale here is achingly fresh and nearly all of it is locally sourced. Deli counters with olives, sausages and snacks make it great for picking up nibbles and other more exotic ingredients, and you can find all sorts of weird and wonderful seafood at its excellent fish counter. Best of all, if you're a carnivore, this really is the place to visit if you're looking for a great cut of meat - their butcher here is second to none. My favourite stall at Arndale Market is Pancho's, a brilliant Mexican food stall which sells some of the best burritos in Manchester. Get there quick though, they're immensely popular and there's usually a queue for their food stretching halfway across the market floor! The new ultra modern Arndale in-door market opened on 7th September 2006 forming part of Manchester Arndale's multi-million pound face-lift. This market can be accessed through the winter Garden section of the Manchester Arndale or through its separate High street entrance. The market is divided in two sections; Food and Non Food sections. if you are entering via High Street entrance the non food section is on your left and the food section on your right hand side. The food hall is definitely a popular destination for the regions food lovers especially on weekends and sells both regional and international food. This includes specialist meats, ales, British cheeses from Hansford, teas from from Parched tea bar (trust me this lady knows her teas), breads, fish, fruit and vegetables. One of the best places to shop at if you are into cooking and fresh food. The Strawberry Garden, one of the shops at the market has some of the most fresh fruits and veggies to offer and that too at very affordable prices. I get my 5 a day fruit from these guys! (ok not everyday but i'm working on it) The market restaurants and cafes are also very popular and customers can choose from Brazilian, Chinese from Wings Resturant that runs a sushi conveyor belt, English from Hansford, Greek, Indian and Italian foods. There is a Polish deli selling the best cooked meats like smoked ham and alcohol eastern Europe has to offer. I suggest you try their vodka its not cheap though because this is imported high premium vodka expect to pay around 15 quid a bottle and please do not ask them why its more expensive than a bottle of smiroff. Cheshire-based Paradise Brewery and the Foodie Farmer soup company have all taken stands in here too. The non food incorporates a superb range of value clothing like high premium t-shirts, Plus 16 womens clothing, Mens & womens footwear, accessories like urban baseball caps from Urbanstreetz store (Boys' Favorite store), Halloween & stag do costumes from the Hot shop and jewelery from Affinity Jewelery along with services such as Mens and Womens hair salons, nailbars (although the smell of nail glue can be off putting), key cutting, shoe repairs,clothing alterations and a specialist kitchen accessory retailer Kitchen hardware (very popular professional chefs). You will also find textiles, cards, gifts, afro beauty products, mobile phones and a florist. This market is far much better than the ones in the B towns (Bolton and Bury) and exceeds expectations in providing inspiring products in very clean pleasant surroundings. I like the vegetable shop, 'strawberry garden'! I did not expect they sell nice n fresh fruits and vegetables in town with such a good price. Thier banana is often very reasonable so I often buy it there. They often do 1 pound offer such as two vine tomato for a quid. Apples are 1 pound for two bags etc. They also sell some exotic products such as yam, pak choi, chinese cabbage, and some intersting harbs etc. If you go to tesco metro to get vegetables, I recommend you shop here before you go. You probably end up with full of vegetables and fruits in your shopping bag and no space left for Tesco ( which always happens to me) read more

Since it reopened a year or so ago, Manchester's indoor market offers much more than dodgy mobile phones, bargain greetings cards and cheap fishnet stockings! Now it's as much a haven for foodies as it is for bargain hunters, with a small, independent food court that offers fare from around the world. One of my favourite stalls is Zorba a lovely greek place, offering quick and tasty falafal, mouthwatering salads, kebabs and much more! The food is gorgeous, filling and great to eat on the go. The prices are good too, especially for such tasty, high-quality fare. But what I love most of all is that grabbing something to eat here is a fantastic opportunity to support a small, independent business even though you're right at the heart of corporate Manchester. read more

Not to be confused with the Arndale as a whole, this little market is tucked away in one wing of the famous shopping centre. As it's inside, you can be grateful for the fact that you can buy fresh food, electronics and... well... all the things you'd expect a market to sell... without ever getting your head wet. The butchers and fishmongers in there are worth nothing as they sell a huge variety of things. As well as dead animals, there's also a small cafe there which is definitely welcome as sometimes you need a brew after you've spent all your money on oysters and cheese. Still selling the fresh meats and fish they did in the old location, the market has been revamped and many new stalls now live here selling lots of nice cultural delicasies. This is one of the few places you can even find a butchers nowadays which I love! I would recommen the fruit and veg stall, the fruit is not expensive and it its all lovely and ripe and tasty. The market has improved over the years a lot in terms of the types of stalls, but unfortunately i find that the layout has not improved with the progression of the main Arndale centre itself. A lot of the stalls sell things that you just wouldnt find anywhere else, and you can find yourself leaving feeling very full as you buy little bits of everything to try, but after a few visits the novelty starts to wear off and you wonder if they'll bring some new things in. I love the Arndale Food Market, it's a must visit every Saturday. Such a wide range of food stalls that there's something to suit everyone, perfect for if one person wants a chocolate filled crepe, whilst another is after a big kebab! I particularly like the Italian meat and cheese deli which sells a wide range delicious, fresh and hard to find products. Fantastic addition to the pleasantly surprising Arndale extension (I'd detested the place for so many years that it really took me by surprise). This is a genuine and bona fide foody haunt. In comparison to the Arndale food court (a carbuncle wedged into the flow of Market Street selling wares from our favourite fast food chains) this sells top notch grub. With edible options from around the planet to easily stomach (the Italian deli is superb) and at some very reasonable prices (although for some of the higher end items be prepared to take you wallet to Johnsons Cleaners). Though often hard to find a table (especially at the weekends) if you wander round the market for 10 or so minutes one will soon enough itself available. I love the the faux Chinese Terracotta warriors in the sushi barnever fails to amuse me. Then there's the fish and meat market on the lower section. One of the best and friendliest butchers I've ever visited. We bought some lamb which is counts amongst the most succulent we've tried outside of a posh restaurant. The butcher boned it, cut it to size it and gave us a ball of string - I honestly think if I'd asked him to cook it for us he would've! Fantastic addition to the the chain led Arndale. read more

I was inspired by the stream of positive reviews on Yelp for the market as a whole and the individual stalls therein to check out the Arndale Market for myself. Access to the market is via the Wintergarden area of the Manchester Arndale or via High Street (near Debenhams). I haven't had a close look at the non-food half of the market, although the gents footwear stall looked good, but I did buy a good pair of kitchen scissors at The Cook Shop (see separate review). My main destination was the Food Market. From my vegetarian perspective, here are some food market highlights. For a quick lunch, look no further than The Foodie Farmer's soup & roll wagon at the entrance, with several vegetarian options out of his five Soups of the Day. Then we've got the Strawberry Garden greengrocers - good basic fresh produce, plus some fresh herbs and exotic items which I've had trouble laying my hands on in the city centre (see separate review). Further in, there is a nice diversity of takeaway food places arranged around a food court. For vegetarian options, Pancho's Burritos (Mexican), Zorbas (Greek/Mediterranean), Ethnic Bites (Indian), a noodle bar, and a Jamaican place (keep walking round) all seem worth a look. So far, I've sampled Ethnic Bites - half of their rice/curry choices are vegetarian (see separate review). Top tip: check out The Parched Tea Bar for a cuppa and light bite. The whole decor and vibe of this Parched Tea is really appealing, plus they do a whole range of unusual infusions - I had a 'super-berry' infusion which I loved, and I will be back to try their other stuff. (Looking at The Parched Tea website, a lot of their more unusual 'tisanes' and so on are organically-grown!) While eating my Ethnic Bites curry at the food court, I was joined at the table in turn by a young guy from Belfast, a lady stallholder selling earings from across the way, and a gorgeous Japanese girl student - with friendly conversation all round. From the stall holders - who all seem to be friends with each other - the customers and all the other staff such as the guys clearing the tables at the food court, the Arndale Market has a unique friendliness and warmth which could just about put a few social workers and psychotherapists out of business! Arndale Market has high qualirt fresh produce at affordable prices. Being a convienient supermarket shopper, it wasnt anywhere i would really go ou of my way to visit. However with the impending credit crunch, i took a trip and i havent looked back. i ate some beautiful food in here for very very cheap. there is such an amazing variety of food stalls from chinese to french and polish. with the new referb in 2006 it has become a place for more and more people to go to, it is so much cleaner and very accessible. everyone should give it a go, worth it read more

Oh I love this place, when I used to think of a market I used to think of cheap earings that make you green, and tacky pvc clothing. BUT now I think STYLISH place offering great food for many differnt places you can pick up a cracking pannini and some of the best smoothies. They offer fresh meat fruit veg and continental foods. 5 stars!!! read more

Before I moved to Manchester a couple of years ago I used to think the Arndale market was a but if a dum. it used to be in the bowels of the shopping centre and filled with rubbis shops flogging cheap shoes and fake perfume. When a mate said she was going to the Arndale Market to shop I initially thought, oh dear! Thankfully all that has changed and the market is now bright and filled with all sorts of fantastic shops. One side is the food market where you can buy fresh fish or sit down to eat gorgeous cuisine from one of the many stalls. As there are so many stalls competing the prices are very low and the protions generous. On the other side of the market you can get everything from hair extensions to mobile phones. Ladies check out the nail bars, you can have a fab manicure for £5 and get amazing eyelash extensions for a special occasion. read more

I came across this by chance on a recent visit to Manchester and i am so glad that i found it!!!There are two sections to this market on one side there is food and the other side is dedicated to non food stuff.Prices are very cheap.The market is easy to get to from the likes of Piccadily gardens and there is more than one entrance to the place.well worth visiting if you are planing a trip to manchester. read more

The Arndal Food Market is actually much better than I thought it would be. Itis clean and light unlike anything in the old Arndale, and actually benefits from some windows! There are a wide range from outlets, from fish to juice and there is a brilliant market atmosphere. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and this place really works towards recovering some independent retail outlets in an over crowded city centre. It is fabulous if you live in the city centre as previously there was only the over-priced Sainsburys Local. The best place to go is always the juice bar. Get one with ginger and lime to really brighten your day. read more

This place is brilliant and if I lived in the city centre, I'd do all my shopping here. The fish market is particularly impressive, the array of fish is impressive and I love it. If you're out in town and fancy some lunch, go to the back of the Arndale and get something in one of the cafes rather than the awful food court with McDonalds and the like. All cuisines are represented. read more
