Poundland in Manchester Arndale, on the lower level, next to Costa and opposite Deichmann is one of the few pound-shops remaining in the city centre, following rival chain Poundworld collapsing, it is a pretty good store, it was refurbished since my last review in 2016, so the store does look better. They have a decent selection of items, it's a typical pound-shop, you're not going to find something too exciting, but you can spend a couple of quid and hopefully get something useful. The store was a little like a jumble-store, without much organisation, that is typical in pound-shops but with it being hard to find a staff member too, it made it even harder to find the batteries I came in for. I would say some items can be found cheaper elsewhere if on offer occasionally, but all in all, it's a decent store which sells basic and mostly cheap items, but most items operate on limited stock when they're gone, they're gone. 3* read more

I worked in an office in Spinningfields once. I apologise, regular followers (those of you that there are...?) as you've probably heard this about eleventy billion times already but one day I made myself the most popular girl in my department. How did I achieve such an accolade? Occasionally a staff member would pop out at lunchtime and bring back goodies for everyone. This usually involved those mini Swiss rolls and caramel shortcakes you get in Sainsbury's. One day I was trundling around Poundworld in the Arndale Centre and came across a 'chewy selection' for, of course, a quid, with Drumstick lollies and Snap n' Crackle chews and Refresher bars. I grabbed a few and brought them back to the office, declaring, 'There's retro sweets for everyone.' They were gone within seconds. You forget how much people like to regress to childhood. The next time I added a bag of mini Wham bars into the mix, again, a mere quid. These made the whole thing even more successful. For this reason and many others, I love Poundworld. One of the nicer side effects of the recession, shops like this have been cropping up all over the place in Manchester and they're a welcome addition. I've never had a single problem with a single household product from there, including multipacks loo roll and kitchen cleaners. I bought an enormous Tupperware from there too, great for transporting my amazing cakes. I am a talented baker and will not be modest about my creations. You can save a lot of money in here. That goes without saying. But its easy location and large size make for a very good shopping experience. And what clinched it for me? Four cans of sugar free fizzy Vimto for a quid. Yep. 5 stars, for its brilliance in relation to other pound stores. Its sooooo annoying that things barely ever cost £1 in a pound shop. I've seen it all in my time, even a pound shop selling items for over £10! And another, honestly, selling items for 99p! It was actually called 'Pound Store'! Also common is the pound shop where things are a quid, but they are just mindless tat and turd that you would never ever want even if it was free. This pound store, the king of pound stores, sells items for £1! And to boot, they're actually worth having! Everything from sweets and chocolate, fizzy drinks, cutlery, soaps, sponges, cloths, books and stationary is sold here for the advertised price of ONE POUND. That's just one quid. A sterling. A unit of capital. One pesa. One piece of coinage. One dime. One single piece of currency. A lone bit of loot. A single unit of dosh. read more

Really good, staff are good and helpful. the check out is quick most of the time. Apart from the busiest time as expected. I've got to say that I'm somewhat confused by the undying love for Poundland on this here Yelp thing. True, everything in here is insanely cheap. For instance I got some halogen lightbulb things for our kitchen and hall that cost up to £2 in other places for just 50p each. They actually work which is a further bonus. It really is impressive. And yes, there are lots of sweets, goodies and random tat on offer for practically nothing (well, £1). But there are at least two annoying things with this shop. 1) As a pound shop, it actually has quite limited stock. Yes, there are loads of sweets and stuff. But where are the masses of bizarre electrical items? The weird tools and cheap hammer and drill sets. It has some of these things, but other pound shops in Manchester have all of these items and more (by more I mean a Hannah Montana storage box). 2) When you get to the tills, it seems that you are entered into this weird fruit machine on the screen in front of you with a chance to win all of your shopping for free. This sounds odd, you'll understand more when you're there. Anyways, unless you actually win (the chance of you winning are tiny) you have to listen to these weird sound effects go off literally every time any staff member swipes any item at any till. It's absolutely infuriating. If I worked there, it would drive me insane. In conclusion, I've wasted far too many words on bloody Poundland. read more

When you're throwing a house party, saying 'Bring you own booze' is mandatory, but still you ought to fill up the bowls with tid-bits and the likes. Times like these that I fell in love with Poundland! It has every munchies that Tesco's has to offer and its all for a pound! My special favourite are the Cadbury fingers, Mmmm! In fact you get the bigger box here for a pound which otherwise would be around £3. Not just chocolates and food, but its a boon to students as it offers stationary in bulk for £1! Gardening, kitchen essentials, even costumes for a hen party are all available under this roof. What took my attention away in particular was the fact they sell fiction novels as well for £1! Now, that is something which is amazing and hard to find! So if you're on a lunch break, or just want to kill time, how about picking one of these to add to your book collections and also have a good read! Hello my name is Grace and I am a Poundland convert. So, the supermarkets keep quietly upping their prices and making my shopping bill higher and higher. In Poundland everything is a pound, And in some cases you can get 4 for £1. None of the "buy three get the fourth 5% off" and all that bananas, actually prices you can keep track of. Flicking through a Weight Watchers magazine I saw a giant advert boasting poundland were now stocking WW items, and guess what.... for a pound! So the next day I took a trip to the Arndale centre store and they have half an isle for WW items for a pound! I was so excited I had to get a basket. But it't not just WW stuff I ended up buying it was toiletries (which were almost half the price I would pay at Tesco) and crisps and yoghurts and garden stuff and everything, its great!! AND bonus point - they take American Express - save pounds and points! YES TEAM POUNDLAND. I'll be in B&M Bargains soon..... read more

when household cleaning stuff is needed and asda as no offers then this is the place to shop. you can get quite a few branded items in here from all departments as well as food and drinks. my cats were happy when i picked up a pack of six ball and four play mice for them. they also sell things for the car, computer and have also picked up the odd autobiograhy. everything in here is a pound and who can go wrong with that? read more
