"I'm gonna fight 'em all A seven nation army couldn't hold me back" (The White Stripes) Not only did my kids want no part of my coin and stamp and baseball card collections, they also had no interest in some of the Army stuff we had laying around from my Dad's time in the service. Specifically, we had a periscope from a tank (he was a tank instructor) and an Army helmet.  I wanted to sell them as part of our household de-cluttering initiative and reached out to a guy in the Yankee Flyer who is constantly advertising his interest to buy these things. But after I called him and e-mailed him photos, all I heard was crickets so he obviously wasn't that interested after all. Then I contacted Army Barracks, exchanged a few e-mails and photos, agreed on a price, a check was delivered from their Massachusetts headquarters to their Newington store, and we made the exchange today. Super easy! The store is quite a site to behold, with camo clothing everywhere, boots, shorts, jackets, helmets, backpacks, guns, knives, samurai swords, hatchets and axes, and all sorts of military paraphernalia as far as you can see. read more

Great place! I went here to buy my son Tyler a rifle and he loves it! (If only he would stop getting in trouble for it LOL)!!!! In case any parents are worried about their young boys. This gift has gotten Tyler in a lot of hot water at school. If you do get you boy a gun from here. Make sure that they 1) don't try to bring it to school (LOL) and 2) KEEP THE ORANGE TIP ON. I prefer real 'surplus' stores. Many places just sell newly made Chinese crap that is camo (but it's not surplus). Army Barracks is a little better than that- they have a section in the back of real actual military surplus. It's not big but it's nice that they are trying to have real surplus in the store. The rest of the store is newly made stuff, knives, and airsoft. They do have a tiny clearance section which I appreciate. This is a small regional chain, and most of their locations are in MA. I've been to several of them and most are about the same. Better than your average Army/Navy store. read more

First thing you see when you arrive at Army Barracks is "Woody". My daughters thought he was great and wanted to take some pictures before entering the store. Most of this store is coats, uniforms, and clothing. My son is in the Middletown Police Explorers troop and he needed some things (told to me last minute) for an event that evening. First off, my son had a hard time getting helped. It was like they saw a 13 year old and automatically assumed he didn't have money. He was completely ignored until I came over and called someone over to get something from the case for him. After ringing up a flashlight, belt anchors, and a walkie talkie holder for $75 I almost had a heart attack! We only had a couple hours until my son's event and had no choice at that point. When I got home I looked up the exact flashlight that we had just purchased for $50 and found it for $12 on Amazon. It's absolutely disgusting for a business to take advantage of the customers in such a blatant manner! On top of that, when my husband came home my son asked him to show him how the belt anchors worked and my husband was pretty ticked when he looked at them and immediately saw that my son was sold boot straps instead of what he had asked for. If you don't know anything about what you are selling, don't act like you do! I will be back ONLY to return what we had bought so I can give my business to a store that deserves it! read more

A nice selection of older gear with some new things sprinkled in. Good place to get the kids some BDU's at about $45 a set so they can run around the woods playing paintball. I also noticed they had quite a few options of gortex gear for more of the serious hunting crew. For the serious collector I saw a bunch of unit patches, military awards, and other collectibles. Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for military grade gear at a reasonable price! read more

I stopped in here yesterday to buy two small items. I ended up getting several. Store is neat and well stocked. All customers promptly greeted upon entering. Plenty of staff (rare these days) Employees were friendly and knowledgeable. Trip was topped off by leaving with my purchases in a heavy duty paper shopping bag. A small thing maybe, but it's the little things that make the difference. read more

(1st Visit) AIRSOFTERS STAY AWAY: You will most likely be handed the gun on the Display Shelf!!!!! I purchased my AEG and I received the Display Model (At Full Price), as well as the box, had cutouts for a battery. I referenced different sellers after the purchase and the guns were marked Battery included. Army Barracks stated the gun did not come with a battery and insisted I buy their inflated LIPO Battery + Charger combos. All in all the second I returned home with my AEG I instantly regretted everything. In the end, I received a dusty AEG that had been sitting and probably never maintained. (I literally could wipe mountains of dust off of the airsoft rifle.) (2cd Visit) A friend and I returned to look for some Airsoft Sidearms. Upon entering an individual greeted us (2 employees I can see in the store at this time) and we stated we were both looking for sidearms). Keep in mind we did show up a few minutes before they closed, yet the other employee just stared at me clueless and didn't come to even ask if I needed assistance. So after the employee helped my friend pick out and purchase a sidearm (which the sidearm came right off the display shelf too, no new in box units), he proceeded to kick both of us out because of the closing time. So, in the end, we can come to the conclusion that the Army Barracks staff show blatant laziness, horrid customer support, lack of salesmanship. Now I ended up spending more for the sidearm I wanted online, but in the end, I wasn't upset about the price because of the automated online checkout. It was still a more pleasurable buying experience than Army Barracks could provide. A total SMH moment. read more

If you're current or former military or law enforcement you will like this place. They have everything you can think of related to those fields. Most of their stuff is the civilian version of the gear you'd use but they do have original gear too. You can definitely spend an hour in here browsing. I got some dog tags made that I use as chits at my job in the prison I work at. Have also bought other stuff for my duty belt here. The have bdus, boots, foot lockers, all types of military literature and stuff for your vehicle. They have military camping equipment. Very satisfied. Definitely better than the place up the street that sells old junk. read more

One of the best military stores around, i used to live in ct and was a customer. I live in nj and still stop by when i visit ct

More for the paintball, airsoft set. Mostly teens and dads in their bonding over cheap toys, airs oft guns and general army/navy supplies. I was happy to see tactical vests, camo pants, back packs and cases. If you're an actually rifle shooter and not a little kid playing games it can be limited, but it's definitely worth a look for any outdoorsy military enthusiast. I will go back for certain supplies, and occasionally to just shop. Again, a must see. If you're looking for actual old school military surplus go down the road a bit to the store next to Doogie's since this store is mostly new stuff. Both stores have their place and I'm happy to have the option of both of nearby. read more

I have been to other army barracks and this one in Newington is a disgrace to the franchise. I have purchased over $200 worth of gear and accessories from this place and the 1 gun I bought here turned into a complete nightmare. Ed B. sold me an out of box item and ASSURED me with his initials on my receipt that if I had ANY problems with the gun he would personally take care of it. This was a total lie as you will learn from reading on. My gun broke 7 days after I started using it. I brought it to Tactical airsoft in Southington and Citadel in Worcester, MA... the largest indoor airsoft field in the East Coast. According to both owners of these shops, Ed B. at Army Barracks in Newington sold me a completely defective gun that had clearly been sitting around. They felt, not only should I have received a discount because it was open box, but in no way should Army Barracks refuse my return. 11 days later after my purchase, I called and spoke to Ed on the phone and informed him I was coming in and wanted a refund. He was extremely rude and said 'look, don't waste my time I am about to close and I won't let you in to return that thing. You broke it, it's user error.' I asked Ed how he could make such claims when he didn't even take the time to look at the gun... I was furious and decided I would show up the next morning to speak with someone else. When I arrived, I was told regardless of my receipt and Ed's initials, Army Barracks would not honor any return/refund and would instead CHARGE ME $30 just to look at the broken gun. I knew at this point I was dealing with crooked people and so I am now seeking resolution through small claims court. I want to let everyone know I am currently battling this company to recover my losses of $150 and court fees that I will incur to settle this dispute. I urge everyone and anyone to shop elsewhere. If Ed. B is reading this, I hope you lose your job because what you did to me was so unethical it is questionably legal. read more
