I am so incredibly thankful for the Armed Forces Service Center. I had a long layover at MSP and planned to come relax at the lounge rather than sit in the airport for multiple hours... come to find out I was going to be staying much longer than anticipated. As soon as I arrived at my gate I found out my flight was delayed overnight for 12+ hours... bummer. But I walked back to the lounge and rented a bunk for the night. Of course, it's no Hilton, but it was much more comfortable than the airport floor or chairs! The volunteers were very welcoming and did their best to make me feel at home and comfortable. They have snacks and drinks available along with some light food upon request (bagels, hot dogs, sandwiches...). I'd definitely recommend checking this out if you're current/past military. It's a much more comfortable way to travel!

I have been to the Armed Forces Center in the Minneapolis airport a few times. The appreciate and smiles you get when you walk in gives a warm feeling. Being retired military it's not that common to get a genuine appreciative moment about it. And when I have gotten props from someone before I don't feel worthy of that. But here it's great to walk in and get that hello. It's like walking into a VFW hall and hanging with some people you don't really know but you have a comradery with. A couple weeks ago I was going through and I had to hunt the place down. I had moved from outside security to INSIDE security. In fact it was now a solid 15 minute walk down at the end of a new terminal. The new spot, once inside the construction, was beautiful. There was dozens of lounge chairs, a large TV with the game on, and some complimentary sodas. I kicked back for almost an hour and had time to relax before my flight. They had stay over beds that my daughter and I actually used last time we had 4 hours to layover there. I am grateful for this Armed Forces Center, it's the best I have seen.

I don't know how you can give this place anything less than 5 stars!!! Some people just don't know how to appreciate things. This facility is not associated with the USO. It is the Armed Forces Service Center. It's located just outside airport security and a lil funky trying to get to it. But making the visit is well worth it!!! They offer plenty of free food, reclining chairs, free wifi, and a men's and women's sleeping area (bunks beds and setup similar to beds in basic training). The staff was very welcoming and friendly. AND this place is open 24/7!!! Me and the fam stopped here because we had a 4 hour layover. It was great because we were able to eat something, charge all our devices, and relax in the recliners while watching a movie. The facility is funded solely from donations, so no matter how big or small, be sure to leave something in their donation box!! And please don't complain about how something FREE could have been better. Smh. Next time I'm at this airport I'll be hoping for a layover just so I can leave a donation and relax between my flights.

A great place to rest up before your next leg of your hornet. Comfy recliners, tv, snacks, and clean bathrooms. Top quality care by the volunteers.

The day after I canceled, they charged my account twice. When I called manager Courtne White, she stated that she would not refund my money and that what I was charged for were cancelation fees ($90+ all together). I shouldn't have been charged anything, per their cancelation guidelines. Management is rude, unwilling to listen or to look at my information to see that I am in the right and really couldn't care less. Gave them a few chances to reverse my charges, to no avail, so I'm making the rounds on review sites, contacted the BBB and will be filing a small claims suit if things aren't resolved. You do not treat people like this.

[However see update below.] Quirk 1: when you make a reservation, *watch your e-mail*.  They'll send you (a) a resv. confirmation and also (b) an "ID Request" from mplshostel.com.   *YOU MUST RESPOND* to the ID request, sending a photo of front & back of your ID.    Then they email a PDF with your door code, room assignment, staff contact phone numbers.   (They also send a "SALTO Keys" invite, but that's optional.   Might help remember your door code.)  ***ALL THIS SHOULD BE MADE CLEAR ON THE WEB SITE & INITIAL E-MAIL RESPONSE***.   We helped another guest who hadn't noticed the ID message.  Fortunately staff were promptly helpful - but he'd have been stuck if we hadn't been there & known staff phone numbers. Quirk 2: I made two reservations, and for each of them, they recorded it as *ONE DAY LATER* than I'd signed up for (correct number of nights, but starting 1 day late).   In each case I had to ask them to shift the resv back.   Dunno if I'd have been able to get in if I hadn't caught that.   This should be fixed. Quirk 3: you can review your reservation on their web site, and it shows the room and number of days, but doesn't show the range of dates you're signed up for.  Should be fixed, too. [Update to earlier review, 2.5 months later: though a staffer initially offered to help get our lost item (a pocket radio) back to us, and we offered to pay them for the trouble, it never happened, and a couple of queries went unanswered. Oh, well. I'm still happy with the place, as mentioned above, and would stay there again.]

The front desk staff were amazing! Very friendly and we got cold water bottles to start, which was an unexpected but great surprise! We were on the 17th floor! Loved the views! My boyfriend and I drank wine and enjoyed the night views before dinner. The room was very comfortable! The bed was soft yet firm and the pillows were feather. It just had a luxurious feel to it! The tv in the room was huge! There is a minibar but of course it's expensive! There was a shower with a rainfall shower head, as well as a large soaking tub! Felt so good! All of the complimentary products smelled amazing! There are food/ bar options on the property. I have heard good things about them! We opted to go to Stock and Bond which is about a mile away and was VERY GOOD! While we were at dinner, someone brought up a chilled bottle of prosecco and small dessert. There was also a card of my boyfriend's birthday! A very welcome touch! This place does have breakfast you can order to your room! Or lunch, dinner, snacks, depending on the time of day. The menu looks great! This is a beautiful and clean property! Everyone was very friendly and I would happily stay here again!

The hotel is primarily comprised of transients waiting for transitional housing or who are otherwise houseless. Cars in the parking lot are filled to the brim with items, missing bumpers and mirrors. The police apprehended, tackled, and arrested someone right outside of my window!!!!! The apartment was DIRTY upon arrival. Housekeeping is not included at this location. When we arrived the floor was dirty and there was gunk still in the bathroom from the last guest(s). Additionally, as a pet friendly hotel there are a lot of animals here. We brought our dog and it was a big mistake. She got FLEAS from the dirty and disgusting linen! I would absolutely not expect this at an animal friendly hotel. Absolutely disgusting. The walls and floors/ceilings in this hotel are extremely thin. We could hear people having LOUD "relations" across the hall! At all hours of the night there is noise like talking, stomping, sounds of others showering. It is a non-smoking hotel, but the entire hotel smells of cigarettes and weed. Was on the ground floor on my previous visits. On the second floor last night in a suite room. Sitting area separate from bedroom with fold out couch and kitchenette. Had some minor nuisances, but nothing major. There was a sink in the bedroom that didn't work. Couldn't change the channel on the living room TV. No battery cover on the remote. You can also see room numbers not hang out but with a sticky note. All those are understandable. They require you to put a parking slip on the car window dash, so when I asked if I could leave my luggage in the lobby while I went to the car for 2 minutes to put the slip in, I was told no. Then I went to a room where lights did not work. I did get a different room. This room definitely just went through renovation as I found dirty carpets and giant screw about 5inches long in the middle of the carpet. The room did smell like a fresh coat of paint though. I wanted to take a shower but noticed the tub was not draining at all. Despite everything I was taught about germs and sanitation, I used my fingers to pull out a huge wad of hair from the tub. The wad is so big it must have been clogged for at least a month. I am just glad there wasn't any bed bugs. The staff still uses a note book to record all information so service is a quite slow. Just know this place is one star and cheap for a reason.
