What a modern and fun hotel! The bar area was a lot of fun to hang out in at night (no food there besides naan flatbreads basically), and the lounge areas were neat. The rooms are very small, but I think they're trying to encourage hanging out in the main areas of the hotel. They do karaokes, bingo, and lots of other fun things! On each floor, there is a little window and hammock area overlooking the city. Each floor also has an "ironing room" which I found hilarious because there is a shirtless man ironing as the wallpaper in there haha. Upon check in, you get a token for a free drink from the bar (beer, Japanese whiskey, or anything NA). Parking is $40/night if you want one of the few spots that are connected to the hotel. You can park in a lot across the street for much cheaper though. There are no refrigerators in the rooms, but there is sort of a communal fridge in the lobby area which I didn't mind sharing. Stayed at the Moxy Uptown for a few nights and only because it was one of the only places in our price range. I've never stayed in a Moxy before. First impressions, this place is targeted towards people my son's age, or people who just want to feel that age. Decor is very loud and very cool, the lobby/lounge is filled with games and another corner has a lot of records, so it gave a music studio vibe. When you walk in, you are directed to check in at the bar. When we checked in, we received a poker chip per person for a complimentary drink. There is a daily happy hour, and various going ons each day. One of the evenings was karaoke night. I like the staff, they are all helpful and nice. I haven't stayed in a hostel since my backpacking days in Europe in my 20's and being here felt very much like staying in an upscale hostel or college dorm. Our room reminded me of an IKEA showroom. It was so tiny and had bunk beds. First time I've stayed in a hotel and slept in a bunk bed. Furniture was functional art. When you needed a table or chair, you took it off the peg from the wall - the same pegs you hang your clothes on since there's no closet. There is no storage, same with the restroom, it's very minimalist, so not many places to put your stuff. Room decor also included a guitar, amp, and a rotary phone that is non functioning. How do you call the lobby to report the people screaming in the hallway at 3:30 am who then ran downstairs to continue their partying on the ground level? I had to google the hotel phone number on my cell phone to reach the lobby. They are also a pet friendly hotel, so I got to hear a dog barking non stop down the hall for a while. Because there's no fridge in the room, I had to use the shared fridge down in the lobby to store my leftovers. Next to the shared fridge is complimentary coffee, tea, and hot cocoa, and a bunch of snack stuff for purchase. If you need to iron your clothes, bring them down the hall to the shared ironing board with a huge picture of a shirtless tattooed guy on the wall. Actually, that's not a bad thing....eye candy while you iron... The beds are actually quite comfortable, but the ceiling light in our room wasn't functioning, and one of the light fixtures fell off the wall when we tried to turn it on. Yikes. I didn't have a car on this trip so I didn't need parking, but if I did, I didn't see a parking lot at this hotel. There's a good number of restaurants within walking distance, and a market and a CVS just a couple short blocks away. The Moxy brand is not for everyone, but if you like staying in a dorm/hostel style of accommodations, you will enjoy it. read more

The Moxi is a great place for a fun short trip. We arrived for a football game upon arrive we each received 2 free drink coins. The staff was so relaxed and provided us with a book of all the surrounding restaurants and then gave suggestions. Our room was so interesting, I played with everything . I won't post this pic. I will let you be surprised, but trust me, the room followed the theme of the hotel. Right outside the elevator there was a hammock in the corner. Of course I had to try it out!!! Bu the cherry on the top was returning to the hotel to full our karaoke in the lobby. We didn't go to sleep until late party with the other guest and staff. This is a cute "modern" hotel. It has a lot of character. The staff was extremely friendly. The lobby bar was great. Each guest receives a free drink ticket. The gym is downstairs. It's small, but it had what we needed. Let's address the elephant in the room now. The rooms are small. I mean so small that they have pegs on the wall to hang your stuff instead of an actual closet or wardrobe. The rooms also lack the usual amenities like irons(they have a steamer), ironing board, water bottles, or ice buckets. I didn't even see an ice machine, but I could have just missed it. Parking us basically a paid lot across the street. Not the best. Overall, we enjoyed our stay well enough. If the price is right, we would come back. Rooms are tiny, but comfortable enough, with a Thoroughly Modern Bathroom with subway tile. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were a bit too smooshy for my taste (forgivable since I slept great). There are fun accents like ambient lighting underneath the bed that is motion activated so you don't bump into things in the middle of the night. Staff were great and there was even passable free coffee in the mornings. You are 25m from downtown via a few different bus routes or you can take the Lake Street bus to or from the light rail to the airport. read more

What I'm about to say may sound like an insult, but it is absolutely not: This is a hip, locally-focused Millennial hotel at an amazing price. This is the EXACT type of hotel I want to stay in while traveling, on the rare occasions that I get a hotel instead camping on BLM land for free. Or, as a way to treat myself after sleeping on the ground for a week! This isn't a place most families or older couples would enjoy because: the rooms are small and it can be noisy. Check-in was a breeze and came with 2 free drink tokens, in the form of guitar picks. The drinks you could redeem these for weren't throwaway swill, they were all local brews and house-made cocktails. All of the art here was local, and much of it BLM(different BLM than the one I reference above)-focused, AWESOME! This would be at the top of my list, were I ever in Minneapolis again. Usually, hotels are just a place for the weary traveler to get a good nights sleep..if they come with a bar / restaurant, it's just an added bonus. The Moxy really takes what you think you know about a hotel, and turns it upside down. Definitely tailored for millennials, it is a very trendy place. Lots of random art and neon signs adorn the walls. The lobby has a full bar staffed by amazing and friendly people. There is also plenty of places to lounge and play games (or records!) The rooms might lack storage, but they have plenty of places to hang your things. The bathrooms are the highlight here. Ultra modern and adorned with subway tiles and Edison bulb lights, it really makes you feel like you are staying at a trendy spot in NYC. I can't gush enough about this place. I had the displeasure of staying here last week Monday. The receptionist "Justine" was absolutely horrible. For the get go there were problems. Came in to get a room, immediately they said we can't do walk in so I booked on line two seconds later. Got attitude about using a card for the deposit even though it was one of the accepted ones. We had parked in the handicapped spot with a handicapped placard. Justine immediately got an attitude and said we didn't "look" handicapped and that our car was going to be towed. That was absolutely unacceptable and they proceeded to argue with my ole man about it. That's disgusting. Absolute horrible experience and maybe teach your workers how to handle working in reception in a professional way. read more

If you are a Marriott person beware, this is not going to meet your expectations. It is a funky weird hotel. Cool if you are a hipster and never experience a record player growing up. For those of us that actually had record players as our only means of buying and listening to music, it's just a novelty. When they mention self parking, that means you will have to find somewhere to park in this part of the city, it's free parking as long as you don't get a ticket or towed. The abandoned Arby's across the street with the occasional food truck has more dining options than the hotel does. As mentioned by a previous review, you check in at the bar. Meaning the bartender checks you in. You do get a guitar pick good for their signature cocktail and a poker chip worth $10 towards food or booze. You food options are that of a 7-eleven, prepackaged sandwiches, fruit cup, yogurt, water etc. The standard rooms are small, when I say small, I mean small. No closet, just pegs on the wall, no desk and chair to work at, but you do get a metal stool this size of the one you sat on in art class in 3rd grade and a folding round table that hangs on the wall in case you need it. Zero breakfast food in the morning, zero newspapers and limited coffee / tea. If you want to feel as though you are staying at a hotel that understands the hospitality industry, don't stay here, if you are looking to get drunk in a bar that has an elevator that leads to a closet sized room with a guitar and amp with no patch cable, then stay here. In all fairness it was a unique experience, but maybe for a Friday night getaway from the kids. read more

I've been to the Moxy a handful of times, mostly for the non-hotel-y things... like cocktails and dancing. Surprise - this hotel is a fun "girls night out" destination! The bar here is solid and is attached to a trendy lounge with collages of Kate Moss and Jimi Hendrix's faces in them. I love how in the summer, they open up the bar so you can belly up right from the sidewalk. The bartenders have been great with each visit too! Moxy hosts a lot of events like themed music/dance nights and special DJs. I've come here expecting to grab a few drinks with my girlfriends, but ended up dancing my ass off for hours. S/O to DJ Nak & Neekasodope for orchestrating my monthly workout! I've also stayed at the hotel overnight (I won a giveaway!) and the hotel rooms were photo-ready. Tall ceilings, clean design, a guitar and amp... pretty sweet. Mine needed a little bathroom clean, though. And the breakfast flatbread I bought the next morn had a superrrr undercooked egg on it. We got in on a 1am Southwest flight and arrived here via a kind Lyft, and Nic and Aaron took really good care of us upon arrival (Nic happened to be coming in and was off the clock but still made sure we got what we needed!). I have to say, I don't come out often enough! I happened to drop in to hear some good music, specifically by DJ Bonics (Wiz Khalifa's dj) & DJ Nak. I'm sure they announced how often they play there but I was consumed in the large size game of Jenga. There's tic tac toe and several other games to play all while chillin in the lounge or bar area. Nothing like low lights, dope music, chill people, and tasty drinks. Did I mention low key? They were playing reggae, hip hop, & rnb. I gather most of the adults ranged 25 and up. Not crowded where you bump shoulders walking around or drunk people who couldn't handle their liquor. Def a place where there are mature & respectful professionals, diverse people, & one of the best places to chill in Uptown. It is a hotel building. It's located in Uptown, right off Lake Street. There isn't valet but street parking. You can park at other bars in Uptown or Uber/Lyft for a few bucks. The Uptown Cub is across the street and Target nearby. If you're looking for a place that is low key, respectful & mature adults, good music, a small dance floor, go when these djs are playing or any other dj. Seems they have a good selection of djs who have similar taste in music as I do. read more

I stayed there because of the Marriott Brand. I am sorry to say this specific hotel is awful! We got bitten by bedbugs within minutes of laying down to watch tv! Those pests were not even shy to be in the light! We got switched to a different room where maybe there were less bugs; however, after 2 more nights I got enough bites to complain again. I was told via email and in person, that I was getting all my money back... I am still waiting for my security deposit ( $300+). It's been 15 calendar days. They're radio silent. read more

I am RATING THE BAR ONLY-where my best friend and amigo spent the day while Issa took our orders and safely kept my tab open. Games, great music, records to play(real by vinyl). Cool neon. Diversity of people. In and out all day. What a great day...and this was the lobby! The drink prices are fair and the young upstart 20 something's behind the bar are terrific. I really felt like an important customer. My stay at Moxy isn't quite over yet. Checking out tomorrow, I will review some other parts of the hotel. This was my first stay at a Moxy hotel, so I didn't really know what I was getting into. The hotel is very modern with a punk vibe. The check in desk is also the bar and it feels like a fancy college dorm. They play loud music during the day and bands come in to rock out at night. The staff was friendly in a sort of hipster way. My room was miniscule. It truly is the size of a room you would expect in NYC. The bed was pretty comfortable and the bathroom was just fine, but again small. There is no desk whatsoever to do work on unless you want to use a folding table and chair which are hung on the wall. There is also a guitar in every room in case you want to make your own musics for some reason. I think I am about 15 years too old to truly enjoy the Moxy experience. The rate here was $200 midweek. This hotel is in Uptown Minneapolis and doesn't have a lake view or anything great location wise. It seems priced too high compared to the downtown hotels. read more

The lobby is pretty nice here with lots to do and decent bar. The location is near a lot of great stuff in easy walking distance. They also have free, decent wifi, which is a plus. The staff was also really friendly. These are the positives. The info for this place is flat out wrong, to start with. It says "masks required" and "staff wears masks". Neither of those are true. The rooms here are tiny. They are sold as "european", which is just an excuse for miniscule. There's basically a bed, a chair, and a bathroom crammed into a small box. There's no dresser, no closet, no desk (sort of, there's a small fold down "desk" with a really crappy stool to sit on), the "side tables" are very small with no drawers. The rooms are about as stripped down as they can possibly be. The bed is a memory foam on a wooden pedestal. If you like memory foam mattresses, yay for you, if not, welcome to a crappy night's sleep. The air conditioner is pretty bad, in a very specific way. Does it cool the room, yep, it does that just fine. The problem is that there is no way to set the fan to just be on, so if you are not a heavy sleeper, plan to be woken up repeatedly in the middle of the night when the AC fan and compressor pop on (quite loud). This next bit is not the end of the world and more of just a general WTF. They have square toilets. Why? My imagination plays out like this: Hipster person says "you know what other hotels don't have, square toilets, so let's get those because different is cool". Hands down, not even close, this is the WORST TOILET I'VE EVER SAT ON. It's not comfortable in any way and you just feel like you're going to fall in the entire time. This is one of the dumbest choices I've ever seen somebody make in my entire life. WTAF? So, what this all boils down to is: Are you a heavy sleeper that likes memory foam and you plan on just sleeping in your room? Maybe this will be ok for you. Ef you Moxy! Considering that this is the only hotel in Uptown. Their service is horrible. 1. You pay for $25 for valet service only to learn that your car gets parked in the ramp by Sushi Tango (2 blocks down). When trying to retrieve your car, you're told to "walk to the ramp to get ur car." 2. The bartenders are rude. We happened to stay the night of their "one year anniversary." So hotel attendees received free drink tickets. Went to the bar, bartender claimed he "will be right with us." Waited another 10 minutes and nothing. It wasn't until another bartender came and asked us what we wanted. Had we not had free drink tickets the first bartender probably would've served us. If you're desperate for a hotel in uptown then you have choice and choose Moxy. However expect horrible service. The "vibe" of the hotel is cute, different. But the service of the hotel ruins the vibe. On top of that, Moxy apparently hired a "professional artist" to draw photos of guests as part of their one year anniversary party. When asked if she had a line or for service she claims "I only have 3 pieces of paper left." Rude, why hire someone who doesn't know what they're doing? F you Moxy!!! read more

Uptown girl living in an MSP Uptown world especially where at Moxy. When I checked it, I was greeted by a friendly girl who checked me into my room ironically at their bar/front desk. She provide me with a guitar pick - pretty rad- and a free drink voucher. She gave me the low down of the hotel. Great location and great vibes. I was able to walk to a local gym and grab a bite to eat because of its convenient location. I liked the music decor and the minimalist decor in my room. The caveat to staying here is parking. I love the Moxy! Upon check-in you'll get a complementary drink. This moxy wasn't like the one in SD. Their drink list is small. And they have similar cocktails but the consistency is different. I had ordered a flash on fleak and it was clear? From what I remember it's suppose to have a yellow color to it but whateves... they also didn't light up the garnish! Which is the best part of the presentation!! But service was awesome!!! I was beyond happy with their customer service!! Food was great i was the chicken with pickles nums! So good! We've stayed at the Moxy a few time and it's cool. Downstairs is a bit of a party, with a really welcoming, fun vibe. Exceptional bar with good service. The rooms are on the small side, with IKEA-ish furniture and nice, modern bathrooms with walk-in showers. The beds are okay - a little sore in the back after a 3 day stay. They have a guitar and amp in the room, which would be fun if the guitar wasn't always missing strings! Parking isn't fun - there's a pay lot across the street that is a little sketchy, and a few precious street spots that need paid starting at 8am. But all in all I like the Moxy.
