As a big history buff I love that this Hyatt is in a historic building. But although you get that old elegant historic look and feel as you enter the hotel, the rooms are very modern. I did have a problem with the Chromecast on my TV in the initial room I was in, so I was upgraded to a suite. The suite was a very spacious room that made me wish this wasn't just a one night stay. Chromecast was working on both of the TVs. The bed was comfy. The free breakfast was one of the better ones. A full spread, including eggs and breakfast meats. There are plenty of comfortable places to sit and eat breakfast. The front desk staff was phenomenal. Not only with rectifying my problem, but also making me feel welcome even after I had a few hours to kill in the lobby after check-out. I will definitely be back next time I'm in St. Paul. I got the 5 star Hyatt experience here.

Second time staying here and both experiences were excellent. We do a staycation to hit up the fun winter activities in St. Paul like Glow, European Christmas market and the rice park decorations. This hotel is an excellent location directly across street from depot. The hotel itself is really unique. It's an old converted building so the architecture is like nothing I've ever seen in a hotel. The ceilings on the floors are extremely high, some of the hallways meander and there are remnants of the old style doors and tiles throughout. The rooms themselves are very large with plenty of space for a family as there is a large couch in addition to beds. There is a pool although it's a but small. Free breakfast is very good and the dining are and lobby/bar area are large, comfortable spots due yo the architecture and decor. No onsite parking so valet is only option however across the street is public parking that is easy to use for overnight at half the price. I will say our stay this year was much more expensive than last and it didn't seem there were any major events so not sure what drove up the price as other weekend were more reasonable. Overall a good hotel option if you can get it for a reasonable price.

Fascinating hotel in a converted old post office - a perfect blend of history and modern style! My room was spacious with impressively high ceilings. The only downside is the parking situation: $32/day valet (plus tips) is your only on-site option. I saved some cash by using train station parking instead (it's time-based but to put it simply, $10 overnight WITHOUT the in-and-out privilege). It was just one block away! Overall, a unique stay if you can work around the parking issue!

Stayed here for business and really enjoyed this Hyatt location. The rooms are huge with 20 foot ceilings and large windows which bring in the light. Staff was friendly and there were lots of choices at breakfast time. The only negative was some of the areas by the hotel were a bit shady, especially toward the evening hours.

Inside of Hyatt Place, which is beautiful old post office across from the Union train station.

Took the train for a couple of days in St. Paul. This Hyatt is directly across the street. It is gorgeous and staff were also nice. They include a really nice hit breakfast and Starbucks coffee. There is plenty to do near here and rooms were very well appointed. Prices were reasonable. We definitely would stay here again.

I'm really enjoying my stay here. The first time in the St. Paul area. This hotel is downtown and near all the action! Within walking distance or a short drive of restaurants and shows (I went to the History Theater last night). Eric at the front desk has been such a gracious host. He helped me with check-in and getting a room with a cool city view. Plus, I forgot a brush, and he gave me a little comb that actually has been working well. The shampoo/conditioner/body wash is high quality; my hair and skin feel soft. The bed/sheets/pillows are amazing and just the right softness! I slept so well! The hot breakfast was delicious and served early (I came down at 7 a.m.). My room feels like a studio apartment because it has a couch and a bed. Plus, with the high ceilings, it makes it even more spacious. I love the art deco theme inside and how the decor is a mix of modern design while keeping true to the old post office that was here before. It's really fun to stay in a piece of history that was an old, repurposed building.

Being a Hyatt member, I stay at a lot of Hyatt brand hotels and typically stay in the Hyatt place due to the layout of the room with the separate areas. This hotel is refurbished in the old post office. Although the room was similar to the standard Hyatt Place, but it was actually much larger. I prefer larger rooms and usually pay more for them, this had 20+ foot ceilings with nothing but a lot of tan. There was at least 100 square feet of nothing between the couch and the bathroom which just made it feel like a cheap hotel. The service was great, and the staff were delightful, but we came back one day and the door was unlatched. The door did not shut unless you pulled it shut so when the cleaning person left, our door stayed open all day. Why the three stars? Based solely on other Hyatt Place visits and facilities. This sure is a step up from many of the chains and I would stay here again verses the choices, but it was not the Hyatt experience I am accustomed to.

The good - Great location that is close to the river and close to a lot of great places to eat and drink. The rooms are very big and well done. The bathrooms are wonderful and the showers have amazing water pressure, probably the best of any hotel we have ever stayed at. The entrance to the hotel is one of the best examples of combining the old ascetics (used to be a post office) and modern, it is enjoyable to hangout in. We received great customer service from Honey when we checked in and every other time we interacted with her. About half of the valet staff was friendly. The Bad - Unfortunately Honey was the only person on the hotel staff that provided good customer service. Most of the front desk staff would not even say hi when you walked by and said hi to them. The breakfast staff was down right rude! The other half of the valet staff made it feel like you were a burden to them. There is no parking on the hotel grounds so you have to pay $25 per day for valet or park across the street in a parking garage who charges every-time you leave (the second option really sucks when it is winter). The hallways to the rooms are one of the worst examples of combining old ascetics and new. You get the feel of being in a mental ward. Curtains in room would not fully close allowing light in right where you are sleeping. We also had dirty sheets when we checked in.

This central post office building turned hotel wasn't two bed at all. In fact, I loved it!

Deep breath. 'Cause I can't believe am about to say this about a chain... But wow, does this hotel have character! Oxymoronic af, I know. But, yeah: Anyway, as others have mentioned this is housed in a massive, historic refurbished post office building. In deference to that, am going to try really hard not to mail this review in. Well, I am! So let's just say that I was impressed by the quirky feel of the hotel, not to mention its uber high ceilings, our spacious room, and best of all, comfy beds. One night, hubby and I decided to grab a drink at the 'hotel bar,' a phrase I use very loosely. Our bartender was the sweetest ever, but he could not mix a drink to save his life. I decided to go all Carrie Bradshaw and order a Cosmo, and honestly, I think he panicked and threw together some vodka & cranberry juice and said a hail Mary. I didn't have the heart to send it back. Plus I think it was pretty cheap by hotel drink standards. So I decided to be zen. We skipped the included breakfast in favor of local eats like we always do. So can't vouch for that. We did partake in coffee, however, and that was better than average. As for as location goes, I think hubby walked along a nearby overlook of the Mississippi River one morning and there appeared to be some restaurants and such in the area, but we never got around to exploring. There was a Saturday Farmer's Market within walking distance too, though we never made there. Bottom line: Wound up staying in Saint Paul by default; aka it was less expensive than Minneapolis. But am so glad we did! If I ever find myself back in the Twin Cities, I'd happily return to this hotel. ps We were able to park in a public lot across the street for significantly less than what the hotel was charging for its strictly valet option.

Coffee cups in Room are still dirty from the last guest.

Beautifully restored historical building. Large spacious rooms beautifully decorated. Large comfortable beds. Spacious bathrooms. Friendly warm helpful staff. Just be sure to check the coffee cups and water glasses in your Room as they may still be dirty from the last guest.

The giant two-story window looking out to Union Depot. To the right was the Mississippi River.

I'm new to discovering The Trailhead at Theodore Wirth Regional Park, but believe me when I say I'll be back many more time. In the winter, they offer cross-country skiing and lessons. They also have à la carte options for cheaper if you only need poles or boots, etc.) Besides skiing, outdoor winter activities also include snow tubing, snowboarding, snowshoeing.... You name it. (I haven't been in fall or summer yet, but I also hear great things about their mountain biking and trail running options.) Inside The Trailhead, there's food and drink concessions, ample seating, lockers, bathrooms, and even rooms for rent. The last time I was there, a family was hosting a young child's birthday party in the multi-purpose room. Altogether, there is an amazing assortment of services here to come and check out. When we initially booked A'BULAE, we were impressed by the concept of an all-inclusive venue with dedicated vendors and day-of support. Unfortunately, what followed was a series of issues that culminated in a wedding day that felt disorganized and unsupported, despite all our planning efforts. 1. Cocktail hour bar service was severely understaffed, with only two bartenders for nearly 200 guests. Long lines led many guests to skip drinks entirely, despite this being a prominently featured and premium service. 2. Event coordination was lacking across the board. Our final updates were never reflected in the event documents. Tables and centerpieces weren't set when we arrived. Our monogram was never displayed. The rehearsal was completely unstructured, and our multiple attempts to hire a day-of coordinator were ignored. 3. Dinner was delayed by over an hour, with numerous guests receiving cold entrées. This disrupted the timeline and detracted from the guest experience. 4. The early access suite was not ready when we arrived, and no staff were present (at least not any that had any idea what was going on) during the hours we paid premium price for. Beverages ordered in advance for the morning were delivered far too late to be enjoyed. 5. Three uninvited individuals gained access to our wedding, ate and drank, and were caught smoking marijuana on the patio. No staff intervened; a family member had to address it. When we raised this afterward, management acknowledged that their security staff had no way to identify or remove uninvited individuals -- raising serious concerns about the purpose and effectiveness of security. In response to our feedback, the General Manager stated that they would use our wedding as a "learning experience" for future events. While perhaps well-intended, this reaction felt dismissive and insufficient given the seriousness of the issues. Even after the wedding, itemized receipts have not been provided, despite repeated requests. After discussing what steps were needed to rectify these grievances, there was yet another administrative error and significant delay, that has put us in a position today - nearly two months later, where we are still waiting on A'BULAE to follow through on promises made in writing. For a venue that promises high-end, all-inclusive coordination, A'BULAE failed to deliver on the most basic expectations. Communication was unreliable throughout the planning process, and the burden of managing key details ultimately fell on us and our families. We would not recommend A'BULAE to other couples.

We booked all three rooms back in Fall of '23 and paid our deposit and were excited to get planning come May this year. We got to a month before the event and hadn't heard anything from the Event Coordinator regarding current menu, bar, timing, anything. Three weeks prior to the event we reached out and heard nothing for a week. Two weeks out we followed up and found out the Event Coordinator had changed from the one we booked with and the new one was out for an indeterminate period of time with a family emergency. We worked as best we could with the Event Captain but ended up with incorrect menus and pricing and were finally told the Event Coordinator would be back the Monday of our event week and it would be handled then. We got finalized menus and pricing 36 hours before our event. This was extremely stressful, however, we empathized with the Event Coordinator and were assured the event itself would be great. On the day, we arrived and the staff setting up was unsure how many chairs we wanted. They didn't know which equipment we had paid for to use that needed to be set up. They didn't know what the event was for. They were all very nice and let us know they had extremely limited information about our event which was very concerning for us. The Event Coordinator was present for about 5 mins to ask us about a backup wine if ours ran out and that was it (it did run out because there was only one bottle). There was no Event Captain, and the Coordinator was not on hand and (according to staff) unreachable during the event. We had agreed upon several things including a finite amount to pay for "open bar" and then switching to card after that point and we found out only AFTER we met our minimum that they were never told/weren't prepared to take cards. At that point, our options were no drinks (N/A or otherwise) for the last 3 hours or so of our event or we could just keep paying. So we ended up paying much more than was quoted/agreed upon due to lack of communication/oversight. We were told that guests could visit the attached Blue Stem bar, but it closed two hours before our event ended. We also had guests with dietary preferences/restrictions and had ordered vegan options and gluten free cake. We had asked if these could be explicitly labeled to avoid confusion and were told "yes" and on the day it did not happen so many of our guests were unaware there was anything they could eat at our reception. We were also told we could take our leftovers home and we only got cake when there was a lot of food left when they took it away. The sternos were out for some period of time and we couldn't find someone to help with that. The bar was left unattended. The bartenders were serving and refilling alcohol table to table (which we did not want or ask for), and did not pass appetizers as agreed upon. We reached out to the owner, twice, following our event to discuss our concerns to no avail. We LOVE French Meadow and are just heartbroken to have had this experience with them. The day of our wedding, everyone there was immensely helpful and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. We truly owe them the world for making our wedding day so special! The room is perfect. We added floral centerpieces, but the room itself was setup exactly how we wanted, the chairs outside were moved once for our ceremony and then again for our first dance. The lighting both inside and out was more than we could have imagined. We were able to play our own music (a friend just had to manage the playlist), which was super easy! The FOOD, OH MY GOSH THE FOOD! So superb, we got so many compliments from our friends and family about how wonderful the food was. We got to choose 4 food options for our guests and only heard wonderful things about each entree. The cake was also super wonderful and delicious. We would recommend the Nord Room to anyone looking for an intimate wedding location. It was such an easy day (seriously, nothing went wrong!) and we couldn't have asked for a better staff or location. We had a beautiful day and we owe much of that to the wonderful folks at French Meadow!
