It was my family's first time there this week and although we did not have a bad experience, we did not have a "wow" experience either. The atmosphere looked like it had potential to be fun and beachy, but there were too many decorations thrown together and it felt loud and congested-there was a lot going on there. The food prices were good but the food seemed a little inconsistent. My seafood paella was good though a tad fishier than preferred. The kids steak burrito was good, but then the ropa vieja was a little too watery and somewhat bland. We came by for lunch on a Saturday. There wasn't many other people there, so the service was very attentive. The food was decent especially the fried plantains, the Cubano sandwich was good, but the ham was just deli ham, I was hoping for real ham. My Boyfriend and I went here just the other night. We both enjoyed it . I said if the Chips and salsa start off good then the rest of the food should taste even better. Wow, Just Wow! We were in Duluth to go to an event at the Infinite Energy Arena. We read something about Armando's Caribe and decided to give it a try. Wow, were we impressed. The restaurant isn't in the greatest setting in a boring shopping center, but inside is quite pleasantly decorated. I got the Thursday drink special of a Sangria. It was really good. Too often sangria tastes like fruit juice. This one still had a strong wine flavor that was complemented by the fruit. Some chips and salsa were also immediately brought to the table. The chips tasted homemade and the salsa was so good that we polished off three bowls. We got a bowl of the chicken soup which was large and really good with lots of surprisingly tender chicken pieces. It took a while to get, but that's probably because they have the broth made in advance and then add the chicken and some of the greenery just before serving. Otherwise the chicken wouldn't be so tender. For mains we got the grilled chicken which was also great and, again, very tender. It came with some very nice yellow rice and some great black beans. I really don't like black beans but I ate every bit of this. We also got some lobster tacos. They too were delicious. We finished with one of the best flans I've had--and we've eaten a lot of it. The coffee was also nice. And all for a reasonable price. My only complaint is that the service could be a lot better. The servers are all very pleasant, but they just need to tighten up their organization. We understand that good food takes time, but the restaurant wasn't that busy when we were there. The first time I came here it was pretty good -- lobster tacos were tasty, drinks good, chips and salsa a bit dull. But when I came back for lunch a couple weeks ago, I wasn't thrilled with either the food or the service. I was going to order fish tacos, but the waiter talked me in to their seafood special of the day. $17 for lunch?? Have been here a couple of times, but I am just now getting around to review it. The past couple of times we have been to Armando's has been with groups of over 20+ people. They are very accommodating to large groups who arrive without prior notification and even separate the checks for us. As far as the service, they are quick with the drinks and free chips/salsa. The salsa is pretty standard in my opinion. First time I went, I ordered the Paella with chicken, sausage, and seafood. It was too moist for my taste, but it had great flavor. When I went yesterday, I ordered the Pollo a la Parilla, and this dish is MONEY! The chicken wasn't overcooked and very juicy, and the seasoning they had on it was spot on. read more

This place is as good as La Fonda. I ordered the Arroz con Pollo and it was good but a little salty. The price is about $3 more than La Fonda. I think overall, it is good and I would come back, especially since it is down the street from my home. But given the choice, I would go to La Fonda over this place. The service is ok here. Have not been there, but I tried them through UberEATS so as far as service or ambiance couldn't tell you. That being said I'm not particularly overwhelmed by that stuff anyway it's all about the food baby and DAMN they knocked it out of the park for me. Got the pork chops, empanadas, and salmon for the wife. The chops and salmon were only slightly over cooked, but I think that was due to residual heat in rout so that's the reason for only four stars. I will definitely be visiting them in person soon. Best Latin/Mexican Food in the Atlanta Area. No speedy Gonzalez here or chain restaurant food! Fun, laid back atmosphere, great service and consistently delicious fare! I would consider myself a Latin/Mexican food aficionado and this place never disappoints. I recommend starting out with the fresh guacamole for the table (fresh avocado chunks, tomatoes, cilantro, onion...not the paste that you tend to find in chain Mexican restaurants). The Shrimp & Corn Chowder has the perfect, creamy consistency and full shrimp, and the lobster tacos with the fried peppers are absolutely phenomenal! I also consider the enchiladas con pollo the most flavorful chicken enchiladas I've ever had. I have tried almost everything on the menu and you really can't go wrong. I live in Atlanta, but work in Duluth and tried Armando's for lunch well over a year ago. I fell in love with the food & friendly service and have been back every week since (sometimes twice a week). I introduced it to my wife and she loved it so much that we drive up to Duluth from Atlanta to satisfy our cravings! Bottom line: fresh ingredients, creative menu, consistent food and great value. Armando's was the first place I ate when I moved to Duluth. I was used to the fast, cheap, microwave version of Latin food from living in Athens and was pleasantly surprised when I sat down at Armando's and saw that my salsa was freshly made. We came in a party of 10, and they were very accommodating. Waiters and waitresses were very nice and patient as there were many kids in our party. Food took a while to cook but can't complain due to the size of our party and I'm sure they wanted to serve all the plates at once. They do offer complimentary chips and salsa while you wait. Their guacamole is amazing! I tried their Cuban sandwhich and it was phenomenal. I have been missing out my whole life! I tried their popular chicken dish and it was amazing. There is nothing really wrong with this place. The whole experience is really just fair. Not so great ,yet not so bad either. I can not find any thing I love on the menu. My friends keep dragging me here because they love the place. But not me so much. Tonight I had the chicken enchalades. The best part of the dinner is always the blackbeans and the rice. I'm so glad I found this place on yelp. Great food! Ordered the Paella Valencia and it was delicious. The seafood was cooked perfectly in there and the chicken was fall off the bone goodness. The carnitas plate was huge and the large chunks of pork was very flavorful. The outside was nice and crisp and the inside was still juicy and tender. Margaritas were also cheap and yummy. Let me say, in all honesty, this is the BEST Caribbean restaurant around! The Lobster Taco's are incredible and the Mojo Chicken is AMAZING! Seriously, a quarter chicken marinated in the most succulent Mojo Marinate ever and the meat will fall right off the bone. The Lobster Taco is filled with lobster and a lightly fried jalapeno slice drizzled with a delicious sauce. I also recommend their Tilapia Taco, Pork Chop, Chicken Reuben Sandwich and Calamari...they are all truly incredible. You are greeted with the atypical chips and salsa, but even the salsa is above average and the atmosphere is quite nice, as is the service. To say the food here is incredible, so delicious, and completely authentic is a bit of an exaggeration to me. The food was okay- I had the paella, Cuban sandwich, and jerk chicken. Not the best paella I've had, meaning the seafood in it was disappointing and the seasoning was not right. The jerk chicken was good, very moist but again, not incredible. The Cuban sandwich was not great either.
