We always love this place. Never disappointed. The chips and salsa are the best. I also love the chili rellanos.

We had a problem with the wait staff over the weekend and the owner is not willing to deal with the problem. I would recommend anyone going to this place to take a picture of your final bill and compare it to what was charged on your bank account . I would not recommend this Restaraunt to anyone and I would be very cautious if you choose to use them. read more

Came in recently ordered a 3 way combo they do not do order numbers or pagers so of course multiple people with the same name grab wrong orders which happens. But the attitude from the kitchen staff was down right rude. Bbq quality is not that great. Go to capelos for better imo. Our brisket was super dry and the pulled pork was dry too. read more

I unfortunately don't recommend anymore. We had the owner as a server and sometimes people are better as just owners and not on the floor. Took us over 30 minutes to get drinks, and hour to order our food and another 45 min for food to come out. Over two hours they made us wait with an elder person and child trying to keep them occupied. She couldn't even bring us a water or margaritas but had the audacity to charge them on our bill. So so unfortunate how downhill they have gone in just a year. I recommend three margaritas ONLY in Loveland! read more

Generally the food is very good and the people are nice. We like Mondays for the $2.99 margaritas, but if you get a marginal server, you may find yourself frustrated. We ordered a second margarita which took forever. When they came the glass had salt. A bit irritated, I said "We don't want salt", so they GAVE them to other people at our table. When the correct ones came, our dinner was over and I said "No thank you, I've closed escrow quicker". I'll probably go back, but will be sure to remind them what happened this time. I used to enjoy this restaurant but I hadn't been there for quite some time. I was disappointed in my meal (stuffed sopapilla with green chili). It was very soggy and had very little green chili. I asked for more green chili since there was very little on mine. When I got the bill, I was charged 3.99 for the extra green chili. I found the whole dish to be flavorless and soggy. read more

I have been eating at Armadillo restaurant for very close to 50 years and am now tired of them foisting ground beef sopapillas off as mexican turnovers they are not close to being the same. I ordered two turnovers to go and when got home discovered they were ground beef sopapillas. While the food is excellent there is no excuse for giving people food they did not order. They have made this substitution before why I do not know as they are not telling us why. read more

Invited a friend who had never eaten there before. In short she is allergic to onions! We want guacamole as an appetizer, well we asked the waitress and said I'm not sure if it has onions? I'll go back and ask, came back and said yes it's premade already. So we said ok let's skip an appetizer. We continue looking at the menu. Waitress came to ask if we were ready. Armadillo has been my favorite Mexican restaurant for about 40 years. My sister and I rate every queso dip that we order from other restaurants by the Armadillo's queso. Non measure up to it! However, during my last couple of visits, the chef has added jalapeño to the queso. I don't mind a little heat, but this last visit I could not eat my food. My mouth was burning the whole time and continued to burn even after I left the restaurant. I want to give five stars, but after this visit..... I hope this was just a bad day for the cook. A long time ago the Armadillo was thee place to go for Mexican and after 20 years we decided to to stop in for dinner and it was just liked we remembered. The food was awesome from the chips and salsa to stuffed sopapilla with green chile. The house Margs were a little tart for me but ok and the service was fast and friendly. My husband grew up eating out at the Armadillo with his family. He has the fondest of memories and he insists we drive an hour out of our way to eat here a couple times a year. Pros - The food is consistently yummy. I recommend ordering the beef taquito appetizer and the jalapeño cream chicken enchiladas. If you manage to save room for dessert, try their sopapillas! Cons - The service is super hit or miss...plan for longer than average wait times. Also, the interior is really gritty and is in desperate need of a face-lift. read more

I love this place. Been eating here since 1985. The food is very good every time. BUT, delivery is a bad idea. My last order was missing a full order of Chili con Queso, a full bag of tortilla chips, and a 1/2 pint of salsa. The person I spoke with on the phone was defensive and full of excuses-NO APOLOGY. She said the manager wasn't there, so I couldn't escalate the call The next day, I was told the manager was still not available. I couldn't get a refund ($22) until the one guy who knows how could make it happen. Never heard a word back, never saw a penny. I really want to go back because I love the food. We went here today for lunch because a friend told me it's so bomb. Very pretty inside. But It's definitely changed my friend said or we are at the wrong restaurant. I grew up in a Latino community and we can cook in my family. So if we go out we do expect to be somewhat impressed by the food. And our food looked like fast food the tostada wasn't on a fresh crispy fried corn tortilla, it looked store bought and had no beans. But sadly food just wasn't up to par for us. Manager or owner was not happy about it and did try to defend the blandness. When I said my food is better at home, he said so was his food but restaurant food is different and his customers like it. I prefer a bit more flavor and authenticity in my food. We still paid for our meals but won't be back. read more

They had chickens chillin by the dumpster which was the only good thing about my experience here. We drove a couple hours to eat here and were very disappointed with an incredibly long wait time for the food, took them forever to bring us our sopapillas. The food wasn't great but the front of the house staff were very polite. The only reason I'd probably go back is to see the chickens. read more

Yes, this location/building is a bit odd, but it's the original location. And after many Armadillo locations have closed, this one is still going. Lucky for me, this is conveniently on my drive between Denver and Greeley on 85. After a long day in the Greeley office, I can stop in and have a bite, or just grab some delicious food to-go to devour when I finally make it back home. Over my many years of frequenting Armadillo restaurants, I've learned that the food can be hit or miss. But there are certain things that are always delicious. You really can't go wrong with the chili con queso. It is the standard that I hold all other quesos to. And, I'll typically get a pint of it with chips to take home. Yes, I'm addicted! The crispy chili rellenos are also usually very good. And, their soups are quite good too - my favorite being the chicken & rice one. read more

Like most of the other reviewers, I've been patronizing The Armadillo since way back when -- the early 80s? I give them a 3, partly because of the local historical significance of the restaurant. The La Salle location is, I believe, the original. In its heyday, it was quite the awesome Mexican restaurant in Northern Colorado. Now its more faded glory than anything. They still make really good margaritas. The food is good but not outstanding, prices decent, service is fair, but the atmosphere is more faded ghost town than Mexican Cantina. It's not the same, but it still echoes the old Armadillo. I think the one in Fort Collins is likely a preferred location - I haven't been there in a while, but they're bigger, busier, and a little more hip and trendy. The La Salle location needs to revitalize - they could really re-establish themselves and ride the wave of economic growth the oil industry will bring. Will they? I wish they would. read more

My husband loves this place! Every time we visit Colorado we always eat here at least once. He always has the beef turnover and I usually do too, but this time I had beef sopapilla and they were as good as his beef turnovers! They were a little lighter and very good! Started going to this restaurant back in 1976 or so. This original Armadillo was always great! Went there for dinner recently. Front house staff tried very hard. I liked the front house effort. The meal was ok, not better than that. The chips were not good, The facility needs a remodel 25 years ago. It smells musty and dirty when you enter the place. Carpet is old and dirty. Paint is in bad shape. The tables are wood tops and the varnish wore off years ago. A health issue with exposed wood. Even the menus were sticky and felt dirty. The men's bathroom was dark and the one stall was not able to close the door and lock it. Ordering drinks we were told that some of the margaritas on the menu could not be ordered. One tell tale sign of poorly run and managed restaurant is to spend 4 or 5 minutes being told what on the bar menu was unavailable. Still have some fond old memories of this place in LaSalle, CO, but I think it is a place in serious decline. These thing seem fixable with some effort and money to remodel. read more

This location is a bit funky for The Armadillo restaurant chain in such a small town. The reason being? This is the original location. The place is kind of in a older wooden building by the train tracks but inside it is your usual Armadillo restaurant. Overall the food tastes about the same as any other location. Sometimes I get a craving and want to go to the Armadillo. The food is ok but not super authentic. This place is considerably better than the Farmer's Inn also in La Salle. The Farmers Inn has really funky tasting burritos (its in the meat) like they just came out of a medicine cabinet. Eeeeewwwwww! read more

It's my second chance giving this restaurant a shot because people rave about the food. And it turns out to be worse than my first visit. I don't know what is going on, we don't even know who our server is. We got drinks after 4-5parties sat after us and we've waited for over 30 minutes and still haven't been able to order anything. The parties that sat after us got food and drinks and we are still sitting here after another server went out of her way to get our drinks. She was nice enough to become our server but at that point my 2 kids are hungry. I don't need them to get full just off of chips and salsa. I've never felt so discriminated or uncomfortable in my life. It's just such a disappointment and will not recommend it to anyone that ask. read more

Came here for Dinner last night, was so glad this place was still here. It was opened in 1970. The food was as good as it was when the restaurant first opened. I had a beef and bean burrito. It was the perfect size. The green chili was not too over spiced, and I was given the right amount. As for the ambience it was not loud, but it was weird to hear Country music playing in a Mexican Food Restaurant. The tables were clean, but this place is out dated terribly. We had duck tape holding our booth seat together, the decorations, carpet and chairs all need to be replaced as they are old and or falling apart. Our waitress was great, she came back every time she had seen we were getting low on our drinks, offered more chips and salsa. The staff is very friendly, very inviting. If you are looking for great Mexican food, this is your place. I just wish the restaurant was more modernized and updated. I feel they would do much more business. I will be back with my Family as this is a great place to eat!!! read more

Ok we usually love Armadillo. But after today we will not be back. We went for mothers day and the prices went from 10.99 an adult and 5.99 per child to $17 and $8 !!! There was 0 signage informing us of this. We also had to pay $17 for my 11 year old to eat a taco and cake..... most places have a 12 and under kid price, it's 10 and under here. My 3 year old who just ate strawberries lol cost us $8! Our waitress was MIA the entire time and no special buffet items were offered to warrant the price increase. Bad business practice imo. Oh and the bathroom was disgusting. Thanks no thanks we will find a new mothers day brunch spot. read more

By far the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant in my life! Such a long story to get into with more details but here is a quicker synopsis. Husband ordered eggs over hard. Received over medium. We requested immediately upon plate being dropped off just a new set of eggs and side of green chile since the chile and cheese was clearly on top of the soft eggs and not the whole meal. 10 minutes later manager was making rounds and asked if we were ok. We tried to keep it simple and didn't want to rat on the waitress or be jerks about the situation so we simply said eggs were wrong and waiting on new ones. Waitress came by two more times to say eggs coming soon. In total it was probably about 15-20 minutes for new eggs and I was done eating by this time. No green chile was brought. Husband decided to hold off on asking again for the green chile because at this point we knew the waitress was a hot mess and it would be forever to get that so he decided to slide off old eggs and was hoping to see more green chile under them and just live with that but there wasn't even a drop. Waited another five minutes but Waitress didn't ever come back so we asked the chip lady to bring us a side dish of green chile. In hindsight I don't think she understood the question but regardless it was another 5 minutes and nothing. So by that time now the eggs were cold on top of the food that had been sitting there for well over 30 minutes. Finally the waitress comes back with check and we say we just want his meal removed from the check. She has to ask the manager. Now this is where the experience goes from disappointing to outrageously bad. She asks what's going on again and proceeds to scold and blame us. She tells us when she came by earlier she had asked us what was wrong and that she had offered to bring a whole new meal and we said no. I told her we said no because we just needed new eggs. However we didn't know it would take so long. I expressly requested eggs and chile so it would be a quick turnaround seeing as it took well over 40 minutes for our two meals to come out the first time around. She says I'm the manager. I could have gone back there and had a whole new plate done for you in two minutes! I said how could you do that when it took 15 minutes to get us eggs?! She continued to argue it with us but she then switched it up to how can she make it right when she realized we weren't backing down. We told her what we wanted which was to just have the untouched meal removed from the ticket but she wasn't taking no for an answer to the point of her putting her hand in my face and telling me to be quiet that she wanted to know what my husband wanted to do about it!!! I stopped talking. Honestly, I think I was just more in shock than anything. I was a waitress for five years. I have never seen management behave like this. She began talking about how this is her family's business and she wants to make it right. He finally caved and said just take my wife's dessert off the check and give me a beer. We will pay for the meal. Just throw it in a box and put some green chile on it. She refused saying that is disgusting, that he can't eat that and insisted on replacing the meal. We just wanted the uncomfortable situation to be over at this point so he agreed. I ate my dessert and he drank his beer and paid the check with still no new meal in sight. By that time we had been there for two hours and were becoming angrier upon reviewing what had just occurred. We walked out without receiving the new meal that she insisted could have had prepared in "two minutes". I have been going to Armadillo since the 80s and we won't be back. This family female manager on duty 7/24/22 was horrid. I have never been so disrespected in my life from someone in the service industry. We did not complain about the waitress, we didn't raise our voices or act angry and cold. We simply said you know this was just a crazy day here and we get it. She got slammed and it was a mess from the get go and we just didn't want to pay for a meal that was not even touched. And she treated us like we were somehow taking advantage of the situation. Had she been a decent manger she would have come by five minutes after she had been there the first time to confirm the situation had been resolved and we were happy or better yet personally gone back to the kitchen to get the eggs and bring them to us immediately. She has no business being in the position she is in. The family needs to have a family meeting and put her in the kitchen because she most definitely should not be the face of the business. If anyone should be manager there it is the elderly man that works in the bar quite often. He was not there today but he has worked for them for years including at the 104th location. Now he has always been polite and competent and is the perfect person for that position. read more

Love Armadillo but the last few months the chips have been terrible. They taste like plastic or something weird. Thought it was just us but upon visiting with other people, they say the same thing. Their chips have never been their best feature but the current ones need to he changed; they are not good. The rest of the food is great!
