I noticed it's been a whole 14 years since my first time reviewing Armadillo Camera. That was back at their previous location. Since then I've put photography down, and recently really picked it back up again as a way to catalog my love of nature. The store has moved, as mentioned, and expanded into a larger space, even with a rentable studio next door. They do occasional events bringing in brand reps and doing used equipment buys for additional store credit. The pricing here is equivalent to what you can find at popular online camera and electronics stores for the new items. For used gear that they resell, the prices are very reasonable. They carry mostly the big name brands: Sony, Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm. Lots of accessories like filters, tripods, bags, straps, memory cards, and more. Plus they run an entire high quality print shop. They still sell film and will process it too, though they only do mail off processing. And they're still one of my favorite stores in town. read more

I stopped in to have some older Nikon Lenses tested for functionality, and all the staff were very helpful and enthusiastic. We checked out my lenses, and fortunately all were working perfectly. I then checked out their selection of Nikon Z lenses, and their inventory was absolutely terrific. By far the best source for camera equipment in Lubbock and on the South Plains. read more

Just dropped in yesterday to see what the buzz was about and check some rental services for an event I'm shooting Friday. I spend a good portion of my time shooting in Los Angeles, and frankly, haven't seen a good camera shop here in LBB yet. Even Best Buy only has older cameras and few lenses in stock. So imagine my surprise when I saw the beautiful collection available at Armadillo! They have everything from the excellent Fujifilm X-mount system to the Nikon F-Mount cameras, to Canon's newest RF gear, to a full selection of Sony lenses (including third-party Tamron lenses too!) Was very tempted by the 50 mm f/1.2 GM. What fascinated me was that they have what both filmmakers and photographers need just there in store-- the product selection was certainly done by people who understand the needs of modern creators and professionals. They had ND Filters/step up rings, portable teleprompters like the affordable Parrot (for youtube, broadcasting, etc), Godox flashes like the infamous V860 III or V1, and pretty much every peak design bag/accessory. Need filters? They've got it. Need tripod clamps, lighting systems, a studio? They've got it. Justin and Deb were truly amazing! The work environment appeared very clean and accommodating. While the rental catalog was not extensive yet (they have only been running this business for the last 8 months), I understood that they will continue to expand this in the future. I was ridiculously impressed with the modernity and quality of the products offered here at Armadillo, directly price matched to Adorama, B&H, and pretty much every reputable camera store! Phenomenal service, a friendly attitude, and friendly attitudes. The owners personally took the time to welcome all the visitors and engaged with us authentically. I will certainly be using this store for all my photo and video needs during the time I'm in Lubbock. This is what we need more of in Lubbock to advance the state of creative photography and videography in this city. I am very proud to see that we have such a store here, and strongly encourage everyone else to check it out. I'm sure it's not easy to run such a business (the insane capital required just for keeping up with the most recent bodies and lenses), but I have confidence that we can support this store as a community to help it grow. Armadillo Camera should be a model for anyone wanting to improve their local small businesses. The camera and lens I purchased there were considerably cheaper than either Amazon or Best Buy. The staff were very helpful in confirming that the camera I wanted to purchase was the right one. Since I am a complete beginner, a staff member helped me get the new camera up and running and gave me a lesson on how to operate the camera. They offered lots of help in taking photos and promised to help in the future if I needed it. All of this extra assistance was given 15 minutes or more after the store closed because I came in at the last minute to purchase the camera. The store is offering beginner's lessons for free next month. In sum, the camera was cheaper than the big box or online retailers, the staff was very helpful, and if I have a problem or need help with the camera I know I can bring it in any time for assistance. This is not an experience you will have at major retailers! Support local retailers and small businesses like Armadillo Camera, you will be glad you did! read more

Armadillo Camera is in one word, "awesome"! I drive over one hundred miles to do business with this shop because of the great prices, selection and expertise of the staff. In regards to the expertise of the staff, they are extremely helpful and patient; even with neophytes such as myself. That alone is immeasurable. When I shot 35mm on a regular basis, these guys were my go to place for prints and developing. I had some negatives that they had developed for me a few years ago and I wanted to have some prints made again due to some being ruined. Took them in and left them for three days. Went to pick them up and they were horrible. They were not printed on Kodak paper, they were out of focus and they were grainy. I guess they are not as careful as they were in days gone by. Very, very disappointed in the prints. I think Walgreens or Walmart could have done better than this. read more
