I scheduled an appointment for my dog online in advance for 11:30am. I''m on the way and get a missed call at 11:33, I call back at 11:35 and am told by the front desk if you're 10 minutes late we have to reschedule. I arrive at 11:39 and they REFUSE to see me. They claim it was 11:40 when I arrived. I'm obviously livid as this policy is stated NOWHERE WHEN booking and they gladly take your $25 deposit but the manager is nowhere to be found when requesting a refund. ALSO I'm notified of this policy, 5 minutes BEFORE appointment time. If I were white would they have made an exception? I bet they would. The person at the front desk is flustered and near tears because I was rightfully upset about this. What a disappointment, inconvenience and terrible customer service. Poor service and care. Vet continuously implies I will make my dog fat even though he is a perfect healthy stable weight and has been since before we came. The vet also likes to imply my dog is faking it or being over dramatic, even when physical symptoms present. my dog had a simple ear infection. They mismanaged it so badly for 3 months, I took my dog to another vet (loving care) and he was cured in 3 weeks. I recently came back with ear irritation by mistake, I meant to book loving care, and when the cytology came up negative she just stared at me and said I got nothing. no biopsy, no blood test, no CT for inner ear infections. Like I'm supposed to accept that and let me dog be in pain forever. I had to suggest possible treatments and problems. I had to suggest Benadryl. and it cost me 150. the Benadryl stops symptoms for a while, but they always occur. Now I have an appointment at my good vet, and hopefully this problem can be solved. he has begun tearing holes in his ears from the scratching. They have never actually been useful beyond routine vaccinations, which any pop up clinic can provide. This vet is going to have to learn a lot more, both in disease and bedside manner, before I woukd consider them even in an emergency. The staff is kind and sweet to my dog, but I do not like the vet. She insulted my dog, calling him a cry baby when he cried because she was digging into his infected ears. Awful. read more

Great place to take my Angel! I wish they had longer hours. I set up an appointment to take my cat for her ears, and first check up. They did a check up on her and tested what was in hear ears. They gave her medicine and told us how to treat her. It wasn't very expensive and everyone there was kind and helpful. They were very gentle with Angel and she appreciated it. The center is clean, and their front desk receptionist has been there for over 20 years! They remember everyone and they are there to help your furry friend. read more

I wasn't surprised to see the negative reviews from this veterinary office. We adopted 2 dogs about 10 years ago and were looking for a convenient inexpensive place to take our new family members. Although I always found their office staff to be rude and unusual, we only really went for our annual appointment so it didn't really matter. Once they got a little older we had to start going more frequently especially for our puggle who had terrible teeth and arthritis. We had her teeth cleaned, but probably not frequently enough, they put her on meds for her arthritis. When she got a bad cough we tried to get her in and got the run around about them being too busy so we went back to our old veterinarian who took care of our chocolate lab. We brought in the medications and she immediately said get her off that stuff it's causing other complications and she was in kidney failure. We started using other medications, supplements, giving her subcutaneous fluids, aqua therapy, and she was coming along. She then started having persistent sinus infections most probably from her teeth. After several rounds of antibiotics and upset tummy we were praying the liquid antibiotics would help. Yesterday we woke up to find that she couldn't move her back legs. Couldn't stand and was very lethargic, probably a blood clot/stroke. Our vet was out of the country so we called Arlington Park Veterinary Hospital and told them the story. They said she was past due for her rabies vaccination by a couple of weeks. And that we could bring her in for her rabies shot and then wait a week and they'd put her down. Or we could drive by drop her off and they'd put her down, but we couldn't be with her. What a couple of unbelievable options. We explained that she was dying and the vet said why bother with another vaccine. I asked what the rationale was and was told to protect their staff. Excuse me, but you'd put her down without the shot, but we couldn't be there? Which is it? Long story long, we found a very compassionate vet who took us in right away to end her suffering. I honestly don't know why I bothered calling and arguing and getting mad, because they really couldn't care less. No compassion, I wouldn't take a toad from the backyard to this place. read more

I've been going to Arlington Park vet on and off for over 20 years. This past week our beloved 8 lb toy poodle was very sick. I called Arlington Park vet and was told they were backed up for one week. I explained she did not have a week left. I was also told she wouldn't be able to be seen without a check up first including a Rabies shot the had expired for her. No matter what I said they stuck to there guns and gave me Golf Rose animal hospitals number. I only wish I would have found them years ago. My husband and I took Zoey there yesterday morning and there wasn't even a doubt she needed to be euthanized. They suspected a brain tumor. No tests and NO rabies shot needed! Just pure compassion from the entire staff. Yesterday also happened to be Zoey's 16th golden birthday so I'm sure Zoey celebrated her birthday in heaven. Getting into them for an emergency during normal business hours is impossible. I called on a Thursday, my dog was limping bad, they couldn't get him in until the next Monday. I took the appointment but told Dani (front desk clerk) that if he got worse I take him to a pet ER and if he got better I'd cancel. My pup did get better on Sunday, I called first thing Monday morning to cancel, all good seemed good. Then I got a call back 2 minutes later from Dani who advised me because I cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointment they had to charge me for the cancellation. I told her the day before was a Sunday and they weren't open and she never told me when I made the appointment that I had to call more than 24 hours before, when I clearly told her there was a chance I would be cancelling. I have been a loyal customer for 17+ years, and never cancelled an appointment. I told her if they were charging me I'd take my dogs elsewhere she said she'd make a note in my file. I was shocked. She never once said I'm sorry, let me see if I can get it waived, we'd hate to lose you, nothing. She only said it's protocol and I'll mark your file that you'll be having your records transferred. I told her that they losing a loyal client and also not getting the money for the cancellation. My loyalty with them was with Dr Ciura, she was amazing with my prior senior dog when he was sick but I can no longer support a vets office who would rather lose a client than try and work with them. read more

After going to APVH for almost 20 years it's time to go elsewhere. If you have a puppy, you need to think about the future. Do you want a vet that can take care of your pet from start to finish? Do you want a vet that can take care of your pet when they are sick and needs their vet? If so, do not go to APVH. When your pet gets sick, they don't have emergency appointments available. They are booked several days or weeks out and refer you to other emergency hospitals. This has happened to us several times. I have decided to find a vet that puts my pet first! Which I did!!! Poor communication during and after a visit from a vet tech rather than a vet about a growth. Advised to go to another vet for surgery...the vet I left to go to Arlington Park. I don't have time or motivation for that nonsense. Has on line appointments disabled, but then harrasses you to confirm the appointment you had to work to make by telephone and email. I requested they purge my animal's file. Who needs records from someone who can't provide respectable service. There have to be other vets out there doing a better job. I switched from my long time vet to this one due to location based on many recommendations from local Facebook groups and Yelp reviews. Since we've only had 1 visit so far, I can't say much about how caring the doctors are but the vet that saw my dog was extremely nice and didn't rush me. I wish she had read my dog's medical records more thoroughly before the exam though, since she said she would give him a vaccine that I had gotten last year that lasts 3 years. When I mentioned that, she looked at his records and said "you're right!" I tried to call for a boarding inquiry this morning and I can see why this place gets less than stellar reviews on Yelp and from Facebook recommendations on the front office staff. I don't mind that the office isn't updated or modern looking (it doesn't smell so that's a plus!) but at the very least, don't cut off your patients/customers while they are speaking and just put them on hold. Most places will ask "Can you hold" first before cutting you off. I guess having good customer service both in-person and over the phone is too much to ask these days! Called several weeks ago to make a first time appointment for my dog. Had to repeat information to receptionist three times. She was not focused on the phone call. She gave me an appointment date and time. I went there at that time only to have them rudely tell me that I did not have an appointment. I asked them to check again. They finally found me but for a different date and time. THEY WERE SO RUDE TO ME. My dog was already anxious from being in a vet's office and now had to leave because they didn't have an appointment for me. My wife has gone there with our elderly dog-even wrote a review. But they have changed. First the receptionist who made the appointment got everything wrong and then the attitude and rudeness was too much. When I first started coming to this vet they were pretty good. The vet my pets were seeing I really liked, however the front desk help not so good. They do not forward emails to the vet, therefore I have to follow-up by calling and leaving a message. The person that answers the phone doesn't listen to what is being said. She either talks over you, cuts you off mid-sentence or puts you on hold. I had a conversation with my vet about the customer service and she apologized, but the customer service has gotten worse. My dogs are on anxiety medication and last month I called several days before the prescriptions were going to run out and it took them 4 days of me calling every day until they finally sent the prescription to the pharmacy. Thankfully I had enough pills to cut in half (giving them half the dosage they are supposed to get) and share with my dogs. I need to fill the prescription again and before I can do that my dogs need a blood test done first. I called to make an appointment to get them in a week before they were to run out of their medicine. The only appointment was 4/9/22 and unfortunately I had to work so I needed another day and the only day that was available was 4/15/22 which would put my dogs in a position where they are out of medication again. When I called on 4/11/2022 explaining the situation and asked if the doctor could fill the prescription, I was told nope she won't do it without a blood test, so magically there was an opening for only one of my dogs on 4/11/2022. Normally I get the results the next day. When I called on 4/12/2022 at 3:15 to find out the results because again no none called me, I was told that the doctor instructed that no one give me the results and that she would call me. I did not get a call so, I called and left a message and followed up with an email. Well here we are today 4/13/2022 and still no phone call. Absolutely unacceptable and this vets office just lost three patients. The receptionist is the first voice and face that represents the office. If you're not friendly and cannot do your job then that is how business is lost. read more

After going to another vet hospital closer to my house who always charged me a fortune for anything done to my pets and dealing with staff that weren't very nice, I was relieved to find this one. Dr. Ernat is the best vet I've ever met, the staff here is incredibly caring and nice, and they charge reasonable prices for all their services. They also made the passing of my beloved rabbit a lot easier. The hospital sees cats and dogs as well. I would highly recommend this vet hospital to anyone like me who had trouble finding a good vet for their exotic pets. read more

... Yes, 5 stars! We had a great veterinarian in Chicago, but now we have found the best veterinarian I have ever had the pleasure of working with. We brought in our two dogs, Holly and Jack, as first time clients today. Our experience was incredible. We arrived about 10 minutes early, only got a glance at the waiting area and were immediately ushered into an exam room (we didn't even get to step toward the waiting area. And, no, this was not a walk-in nor an emergency visit. Every staff member came to see Holly and Jack. Holly even had a very disturbing, bloody accident on the floor and the only thing I saw in any of the staff's eyes was genuine concern. Dr. Mottonen was very thorough, calm and not playing the part of a "sales lady". I owned up to our dogs' poor dental health and anticipated the usual guilt trip (we could never afford the dental cleanings at our previous vet) ... Only no guilt trip came. Dr. Mottonen heard out every concern and worry and even conducted some tests there at the clinic right away. She is incredibly friendly and certainly patient with the client owners (let's face it, a veterinarian's job would be easier at times if the humans weren't there). The prices at this vet's office are absolutely manageable. I'm excited by the prospect of actually having Holly and Jack's teeth cleaned in the near future. For as long as we are in Arlington Heights or the surrounding area, Arlington Park Veterinary Hospital will be our veterinarian office of choice; a BIG weight off of my mind as my "baby" Holly-girl is now 13 years old. read more

Dr. Fetzer is amazing. I requested him for years when I had my Great Pyr and my Newfie. I now have a mixed breed, and a few months ago, I had a rescue Chow mix. My Chow was having problems and my daughter called to set up an appointment to come in (I was at work). The lady on the phone was very mean to her and told her to take him elsewhere as they were closing shortly. Long story short, she took him somewhere else and we found out he had a tumor and had to be put down. When I called Arlington Park, to set up that appointment to put him down, that same woman answered....seems like she is always there!!!!! Here i am crying so hard because I have to put my dog down, and she tells me I have to pay before I bring him in!!!!! I love Dr. Fetzer, but I would never go back here because of that! We brought my dog kendi in, my mom called last minute and asked if they had time to see us. They were very accommodating and told us to come in. We filled out paperwork and saw the doctor within 10 minutes. The doctor came in and asked us why we came in, he checked her for fleas (shes been really itchy for the past two weeks) he said that she may have a secondary skin infection and prescribed her antibiotics. We also mentioned that she smells after a few days of getting a bath! He gave us a special shampoo for her also that helps with her oily skin. This place was great, my mom said the bill wasnt as expensive as other vets in the area. read more

I've been taking animals to this vet for 14 years and have never had a bad experience. Although I live in Addison and have plenty of great vets close by, I got involved with Dr. Fetzer and Dr. Ernat because I was volunteering with a cat rescue. I love their compassion and empathy and the way they go out of their way to make sure my animals and I are taken care of. Dr. Fetzer has called at 10pm and 6am to make sure we're ok. I never have a problem. I've read the comments about the rude behavior of the staff. Well, I suggest you get to know them a bit more. They have personal lives outside of work. They also experience human death, cancer, physical challenges. And they're very busy taking on all of our emotions, too. I find them to be very human and caring and still take all of my animals here. 20 minute highway drive isn't always fun but these people are wonderful. Cats and dogs. read more

*ZERO STAR ALERT* I have been taking my dogs to Arlington Park Veterinary Hospital ("APVH") for years to only discover their unprofessionalism and lack of compassion. Background: What transpired to my dog-child will leave you despaired and disgusted with APVH. She was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma (tumor of the blood vessels) December of 2018, sadly she passed away February 2019. She fought a tough battle with cancer. Throughout her life, I instilled my trust in APVH to educate and keep me informed on my dogs well-being. First RED flag: Things turned for the worst when I first noticed my dog's rapid weight lose and fatigue spells. In September of 2018, I took her to the vet for an annual checkup with blood work. The test results and assessment came back normal, vet said her symptoms (weight lose and fatigue spells) are related to "old age". In December of 2018, her appetite significantly decreased and she became more lethargic. I was extremely concerned and scheduled a vet appointment. This time around, vet suggested ADDITIONAL bloodwork, more extensive than the September 2018 blood work due to her "old age". This was extremely alarming and questionable. If the vet had mentioned additional panels of blood work in September, I would have opted to get it done! The results were devastating and surreal, she was diagnosed with cancer. Second RED flag: Fast forward to February 2019, my dog passed away at home. My family and I took her into APVH she was pronounced dead and we said our final farewell. 15 to 20 mins later we had asked to speak to a vet. A male veterinarian walked into the room, he seemed annoyed and irritated with our questions regarding her cancer and crematory inquiries. He was extremely unprofessional, as if his time was too valuable! Yet again vet and staff members reassured our dog was in good hands. She will be cremated, her ashes and paw imprint will be available in 5 days. Third and final RED flag: on the 5th day, my heart was heavy as I anticipated to take her home. The receptionist handed me what looked to be her urn, a generic metal tin can. I quickly inquired on the paw imprint, she said it will be mailed separately. Needless to say, I received my dog's INK paw print on 4 pink notecards. I STARTED BALLING, my dog deserved better than this- She had endured so much. This past Saturday, our younger dog was taken to APVH for a check up and my husband brought up the misunderstanding- still giving them the benefit of the doubt. Instead of being apologetic, the receptionist was defensive and passive aggressive. Her remark was the final straw, she glanced at my husband and said "you were well informed of the ink paw print." My husband sternly responded, "we requested for a clay paw imprint". She coldly brushed him off and quickly said sorry. At this point the damaged has been done. If only they had taken the time, listened, and checked the appropriate boxes on the crematory form. They had already dismissed us as soon as we arrived with our deceased dog. I am extremely disappointed with APVH's attention to detail and unapologetic attitude. As a dog mom, I regret entrusting APVH with my dog's well being. There were red flags throughout this horrible experience, but I ignored them. We will be searching for new Veterinarian. ------------------ Response to APVH: If you are going to apologize, it holds more weight if you show accountability and sincerity. Clearly there was no misconception/misunderstanding, it was well understood you do not have the proper equipment to mold a paw imprint. We were charged $370 for crematory service (paw imprint to be done by crematory company - there was a check box on the crematory form). Another fact I would like to highlight, APVH charges $240 for crematory service not $370 (Unsure of price discrepancies). My dog passed away at home prior to bringing her into APVH (She was 10 pounds). This is absolutely not a misunderstanding/ misconception, I called a couple days after the incident to inquire on crematory prices. Additionally, my eldest dog passed away 5 years ago, we obtained her ashes and paw imprint from crematory company. Loss of a family member is definitely painful, however the tragic event did not cloud my observations conducted by APVH. read more

I need to have house calls for my 16 year old dog who is too scared to leave the house. A practice I had been with for 30 years refused to do house calls, so I switched to Arlington Park Veterinary Hospital - and I wish I had switched to them 30 years ago! They are wonderful. Dr. Mottonen, all the vet techs and the office staff are very friendly and compassionate - and patient. They always make sure they have answered all your questions. I initially had such a good first appointment here and planned on writing a great review- but that has completely changed. I was informed by the doctor that my cats blood sugar needed to be tested in the next couple weeks to see how she was doing since the dose was adjusted. She said if my cat wasn't doing well then I'd need to drop her off all day for a different kind of test that would be scheduled if needed. The receptionist suggested the appointment date, I picked the time, I received a confirmation email, done deal. I go to the appointment- everything is disorganized, no one had my paper work and I'm standing there with my cat for ten minutes while the house cats there are walking by my cat and hissing at her. They then finally tell me that my appointment shouldn't have been scheduled, that I should never have been scheduled for a checkup, that it should have been the special all-day appt, and that they can't take me right now. I explained they made the appt, this was a checkup to check the new insulin level, and I had a confirmation email that I had an appt. all they did was blame another receptionist that wasn't there, and told me I needed to reschedule. Not one "sorry", not any sort of remorse whatsoever. Never mind the fact insulin, vet appts, and paying for babysitters so I can go to the appointments is a huge expense. So disappointed. However, I agree with the other reviewer who said the office staff is always RUDE! I feel like they are certainly lacking in "good customer service" skills. Ok, I never write reviews but I have to sadly say I am disappointed. I have to say I've never seen such RUDENESS at a vets place. I had high hopes for this clinic but the the short blondish lady that is a receptionist and also helps in other ways is EXTREMELY RUDE and unhelpful. I am always nice and with her I try to be extra nice but nope, that doesn't help... it is sad. I took a friend with me there once and he was in shock about the receptionist - he said, wow why are you putting up with this... when he saw how the receptionist got frustrated and rude because I ask her for my pet older records and then just a regular question. Also in my experience whenever you have a question, etc you call your vet and the receptionist always takes your message and asks for you to the vet or the vet technician but not here... She gets annoyed and rude. That has been my experience time and time again. I don't think I am going back here because of that reason... also my friend said he wouldn't take his dig there... (he was shopping for vets back then). other: I noticed this place is not as clean as other places but I was ok with it, last time the smell was too much for me I had to step outside while waiting because I felt I was gonna you know what. If you love your animal, take them somewhere else. First, the people here are so crabby. And it isn't a one time I'm having a bad hair day crabby, it is ALL the time. I dread even calling here and having to talk to them. Second, they are not good at all with big dogs. I'm not even sure the vet likes dogs, but he definitely doesn't like my big dogs. We have 3 big dogs and they have managed to make 2 of them cry out in pain due to inadequate lifting techniques. They hurt my male, who already had a horribly sore back from (we think) falling down the stairs, by not having enough people to lift him up on the xray machine (he is 145 lbs.) and refusing my help. They also hurt one of my girls (who has two fake knees after tearing both ACLs - a fact which they are well aware of) by trying to lift her up onto the table to express her glands. It is COMPLETELY unnecessary to get her on a table to do this, she does perfectly fine standing on the ground and you do not lift a 110 lb. dog unless necessary. Also, one time when they took her back for blood work, etc. they cut her nails without even asking me. Now, I know this doesn't sound like a big deal, but we much prefer to take care of her nails on our own. Her quicks are long, and if you aren't familiar with her then you are going to cut to her quick - which they did. If they had simply taken 2 seconds to ask me if I wanted her nails done I would have politley replied no. We go to Deer Grove now and are much happier with Dr. Lang.! read more

The care provided is very compassionate, they will always fit you in if you need to get in at the last minute and Dr. Fetzer is very professional and knows what he's doing. I have gone to APVH for over 25 years. I have had a variety of dogs, lost several of them. I could not be happier with the staff and service APVH has given us over these 25 years. I too lost a dog and APVH were extremely compassionate about it with me. I took my pug to a Hospital located on Roselle Rd on a Sunday after calling the APVH vet at his home. He said to rush him to this Hospital located on Roselle Rd who was open 24/7 or he could come in. We chose to take him to the hospital then. Here is what happened: We came home after being out and the Pug could not even raise his head, he was laying flat on his stomach with paws out trying to get to his water dish (inches away from it). We picked him up and rushed him to the hospital on Roselle Rd, of which they took him in the back and came out and said he would be fine, they wanted to keep him overnight for observation, and could come back to see him later if we wished. We hadn't even got home (10 minutes later) and we got a call that our Pug was dead and to come back if we wanted to, to say our goodbyes. That Monday we got a call from Dr. Fetzer at APVH asking us how the Pug was doing and we told him the story of what happened. That again is a sample of how they care about our animals and us. Arlington Park Veternary Hospital has been caring for my families dogs since the '80's and they continue to do an amazing job. I moved away from Rolling Meadows about 8 years ago and as much as I did not want to I changed vets. I went through 3 vets before I finally gave up and went back to Arlington Park even though it was almost an hour out of the way. Their personal care for the animals and their well being is something lost on most vets today. While animal care is never cheap, nor should it be, Arlington Park is much more fairly priced than some of the vets I experience after my move. I remember I spent more on spring shots for my dog 2 years in a row than my girlfriend spends on vaccinating her horse. They have cared for 4 of my own dogs in the past as well as my current dog and would not hesitate to refer a friend to them. read more

My family has always taken our dogs to this vet. The staff is very friendly and you can tell they have a genuine love for the animals. The veterinarians are always very nice, patient, and do a great job explaining what's going on. Also, the staff do a fantastic job clipping my rabbits nails! He doesn't like being picked up so it's too challenging for me to do alone, but the vet techs are amazing about holding him so he doesn't hurt himself. I really appreciate them for that :) read more

Definitely the most caring vets I have ever worked with. Yes, it's true that the interior of the office isn't brand, spanking new and sparkling. That's because the vets care more about taking care of their patients than having a posh-looking office. I have been to high tech, squeaky clean places but I prefer the kindness of the people here. It's obvious they truly love animals. The staff can sometimes seem rude until you get to know them and realize that they as well as the doctors care about you and your pets. The short, blond girl that some people complained about noticed that I was upset one day and she tried very hard to help and comfort me. The bad ratings are a shame, because this is truly an exceptional veterinary practice. I'm glad I found it. read more

This is a great Vet!! Their vets on staff are very knowledgeable and caring, and their prices are reasonable. I have a dog that has a black cloud over him and constantly has issues and he has been treated here several times. Each time we have gone, they have cured Oscars issues and it didn't break the bank to treat him. Best vet in the area. read more

I took my beagle to this Vet's office for the first time a couple of months ago. He lives with reoccurring ear infections due to the type of ears beagles have, and he was there for a possible urine infection. The Dr and staff were awesome--accidently I made an appointment at the vet I had in my phone, which was not them. They did not even mention my mistake but took him in as if I had an appointment. His ears were checked, and he was given meds for his urine issue; however, I was astonished when the vet said use a vinegar and water solution for his ears (not expensive ear solution) they always sell me. I took him back for his recheck the next week, and I heard something I have never heard before "No Charge" for the visit. I was in shock. I will be bringing my cats there too. Thanks! read more
