Heading home from school in the Northern Suburbs to the house in the Inner West, I would get off the bus at Wynyard and walk through the station to get to George Street to continue my journey.
And every chance I got I would go to Ark Sushi King Roll, the only Sushi Bar I ever needed. A simple hole in the wall Sushi joint which seemed to always have the buy two get one free deal placard placed firmly against the glass cabinet that housed those Japanese favourites. (As a youth I believed it was luck, but age has told me it was timing.)
Cut to four years later, five years, six! Have I been out of school for that long? Six years? Oh Jesus.
Cut to six years later and every time I pass through the Wynyard complex, I'll make a bee line for that Sushi joint. Still there, still going strong, nothing has changed, I don't even think the prices have.
California rolls, eel, Teriyaki Chicken, Prawn, Avocado, all delicious, all nutritious. Never dry, never stale. Never have I eaten an inferior sushi roll there. Always a line and always with something to tantalise my taste buds as I make that long walk to or from the bus stop.
