The Party Place Depot - Bought these beautiful high quality rolls of wrapping paper - I am so excited!

The Party Place Depot

The Party Place Depot has re-opened, after it's predecessor, Party Land, closed last year. It's…read morenot a coincidence that they have struggled mightily due to the massive construction projects behind their building and across Cricket now too. People don't come because of the fear of parking and congestion. They're located in what was once Woolworth's, a place I spent hours in as a child. There are two entrances - one facing Lancaster and one in the rear off Cricket Ave. I go there now for Halloween supplies - fake blood, costumes, props, for general party supplies and for wrapping paper supplies. They are slightly more expensive than big box stores or online , sure. Their quality is very good, often better. Plus, you're supporting a local business. The other thing they do are done pretty spectacular ballon decorations as well as on-the-spot sales of regular and Mylar balloons. I have my eye on a 15' tall Jack Skellington Mylar balloon that is amazing. Parking is more limited, though there are spots between the new construction ant the existing buildings for use, and Party Place Depot has a 15 min loading zone by their rear entrance. They're also 1/2 block from the Ardmore train & bus stations. The people who work there are generally nice and helpful. It's an old building so it's not super fancy. They have a wide variety of items though. It's worth the extra to buy here, both in effort and the price differentials from the mega-store-conglomerates. I'm definitely going back. Jack Skellington is waiting for me...

I needed last-minute balloons for a party--about 40-50 latex balloons, uninflated. I was initially…read moregoing to try Party City but decided to give this business a chance based on the reviews. To my surprise, the place looked like it was closing down when I walked in. There was barely any inventory. I came in to buy balloons but had almost no options to choose from. I had to order individual balloons from behind the counter, which ended up costing me about $25. (For balloons, this is expensive.) Overall, I wouldn't return here and would suggest looking elsewhere until they restock their inventory.

My mother decided we needed balloons for my brother's birthday dinner. I was the chosen one to pick…read morethem up. I arrived to find the store fairly empty (of customers). The store itself seemed to be well-stocked and everything is pretty cheap. I picked a "Happy 21st" birthday balloon and 3 red ones to go with it. I decided to go with the red because my brother and I had an earlier conversation about how his favorite color was red. Anyway, I was instructed to go pay for them and then come back to get them. So, I paid for the balloons, and then I presented the receipt to the girl who was blowing them up and she passed them over to me. Unfortunately, it wasn't until then that I noticed that the balloons looked more PINK than RED. Crap. I should have gotten blue...because light blue is light blue whereas light red = pink. OH well, he'll deal...right? So I get out to the car when my mom calls and says, "Oh! Don't forget "Happy Birthday" napkins!" Argh. So back into the store I go. Now the store has filled up with more people collecting things for NYE parties and the single register that is open has a line of people with a crapton of things. When I finally make it to the front of the line, the manager is standing there also and basically chastising the girl for just about everything. I'm thinking...while the girl does need to be told what not to do, shouldn't they wait until after the customers clear out? It just seemed very unprofessional and really turned me off from ever wanting to return for party supplies. I paid and was on my way. Upon my return home the following conversation ensued: Mom: Uhh, why did you get pink balloons? Me: They're NOT pink, they're RED! Mom: No, they're pink. Dad: You should have gotten blue...PENN STATE blue! Mom: Wait, why didn't you get 2 "Happy 21st" balloons? I said to get 2. (No she didn't.) Brother: Uh, we need more beer. I don't think we have enough beer! And hey! Why did you get pink balloons?? Me: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. ((See next review; Smitty's Liquor))

In reference to the woman who commented before me, when you get loose latex balloons, you pick them…read moreout of the bins yourself. Each bin is clearly labeled with the color of the balloons that're in it. They're labeled because balloons look a certain color before they're inflated, such as black, then when blown up, they lighten and can be purple, or green.. They have a bin labeled Red, and a bin labeled Magenta. It is your own fault that you got pink balloons, because you picked out pink balloons, and not red ones. I know this because this also happened to me. I showed up to pick up my balloons and they were pink. When I explained to the worker that I had wanted red ones, they told me about the labeled bins and then replaced the whole order of five magenta balloons with five red ones instead, apologised for MY mistake, and didn't charge me for the new ones.
