I've been going to APEX on and off since Y2K. It's the biggest & most well-known play space in Arizona and has evolved quite a bit over time. Their building is big (located in a decent business/industrial park) and has plenty of room for play in the main space where most of the interesting equipment is; an upstairs area, which is more intimate; social/safe rooms join the foyer to the main area; Kitchen, restrooms and two other front rooms are down the hall. Of the two front rooms, one has couches and is used for after care, while the other has the ambiance of a small dungeon.
One of the things I like is that everyone is welcome and the crowd is usually diverse and fairly representative of the larger community. Kinky, poly, LGBTQ, Leather, swingers, furries, young (18+) and old alike. You name it, that crowd has frequented this space at one time or another.
Be sure to check their calendar to attend on a night when they're doing New Membership orientations because you must attend an orientation in advance, before going to a party and you can't do it the same night as the party itself. It might be a wee bit tricky for out-of-towners because they usually don't do orientation on Fridays & Saturdays. The biggest theme and dungeon parties are on Saturdays so you must do orientation several days in advance. That said, they do often have extra opportunities for membership orientation during the week, so just check their calendar and plan accordingly.
While APEX has a history of being frequented by an older crowd, the truth is lately it's seen a renaissance of sorts and things are pretty hoppin'. The younger crowd has always been present in varying numbers, coming and going as they do. The membership is worth the price, in my opinion, especially when compared to other options for reliable, safe, public play spaces, which are few, and none compare to APEX in size and organization. read more
