On Thursday, January 20, 2022, we hired Arizona Grout Restoration to remove and replace the silicone caulking in the master bath walk-in shower in our home.
This business apparently has two websites, http://www.arizonagroutrestoration.com/index.htmland https://arizona-grout.com/ both sites talk about re-caulking services. One site even has pictures of beautifully done caulk.
The caulking job performed for us was incorrectly done in every way possible, leaving us with an unusable shower, a big mess to clean up, the job still needing to be done, plus the extra work of trying to remove a shower full of new, improperly applied caulk. The shower is now in worse repair than with the original caulk, which had only a handful of places starting to peel, and a bit of dirt retention/mineral buildup in the lower corners. We were trying to be proactive, and but instead have been left with a shower that is unusable because it is not effectively sealed against water leakage into our walls.
Specifically:
· Overall, caulk has bubbles, ridges, uneven edges, not smoothly finished but smeared outside the joints
· Overall, Insufficient caulk was applied inside the joints to make a good seal; shower threshold has gaps where water can enter
· Water is leaking out onto the bathroom floor from the shower corner where the frame meets the shower seat at the shower pan
· In some areas caulk has been spread over existing mineral deposits/corrosion
· There are pieces of old caulk embedded in the new caulk
· On some parts of the inside shower frame, old caulk was not properly removed for new to be applied. The outside of the shower frame wasn't touched at all.
· The shower walls, seat and floor pan have thin smears of caulk and small balls of caulk scattered everywhere
· Approximately 50 square feet (6' x 8') of our master bath tile flooring is smeared with caulk residue
We were charged $350 for this mess. We accepted this price at the time we were given the quote, because it is a fairly large shower, and we thought it would be an 8-9 hour job. Mike Sanchez, the owner of this company, arrived at 8:00 am and was "done" by 11:30 am. $350 for less than four hours of horribly sub-standard work leaving us in worse shape than we were before he came, is simply criminal. The pictures of caulking jobs posted on his website bear absolutely no resemblance to the work that was done in our shower. Mike Sanchez obviously does not know what he is doing with silicone caulk, and to advertise to perform work without the skill to perform it is fraudulent. The work we paid for was not properly performed and must now be redone.
We are seniors. My partner is fully disabled and his eyesight is not great. Unfortunately, he had already signed a receipt and handed Mike a check before I looked at the shower. I did complain to Mike about the job quality while he was still here. He did a few spot touch ups, and insisted that the things I was complaining about would be "okay when the caulk is cured in 48 hours." It is absolutely not okay.
We gave Mike an opportunity to give us a refund. We called Mike at 8:00 am on Monday, January 24th, and left a detailed message with our complaints. We asked for a full refund. We did not receive a response. On Tuesday, January 25th, I sent a detailed complaint to him via the "contact form" on his website. Again, no response. Mike Sanchez is obviously not interested in doing anything to address our complaint. This business is "do crappy work, take the money and run."
