Cute pet store in the charming village. Pets are welcome and will get a free treat. We go every year when we visit Skaneatles.

The employee (not the one who has purple hair) followed me around the store and positioned herself so she could watch me. This occurred from the time I walked in and stopped and sung to the birds yo the time I went to pick out cat food in the back of the store and when I was looking for cat toys. There are way too many alternative places to shop to be harassed while shopping. She acted like she was putting things away, everywhere I went. It's an age old trick. If I wanted to steal something I would send in a white person who would get away with stealing everything but the animals--per a white woman I know who had walked out of stores with racks of items because the store employees are too busy watching Black people to watch her. I have my own business and I have a Masters degree. I would NEVER give anyone the satisfaction...but I will NEVER shop at your store again.

They need a certain level of humidity and heat. At this location they are keeping the frogs in a tiny box with some moss and that's it. No water bowl or anything. Nothing to climb on and no heat lamp. This is so disgusting and they should not still be getting business since it just encourages treating animals like this.

Pampered Pets is my go-to local pet store. It's super conveniently located for me as a student,…read moresince it is literally 20' from the bus stop at the mall. The best part about this place is the staff though. They're super knowledgeable and have taught me about just about every animal in the store at this point (I go a lot..). They've got reasonably priced merchandise (just about every other place's prices, and comparable to online buying at points) and really care about their animals. Staff are always walking around holding something, socializing to get them to enjoy people and letting the animal get out of its cage. There's a very good selection of pets for a small mall store. There's a decently sized fish section, finches to parakeets, rats to hamsters, geckos to pythons, hermit crabs to axolotls, almost always rabbits and guinea pigs, sometimes kittens, and even a few stranger things, like degus, hedgehogs, and ferrets. I bought my mini lop rabbit here and he's been a dream to take care of. I've never owned a rabbit and the staff is very good about easing my concerns and answering questions when I come in (and figuring out his finicky eating habits). They give you an awesome deal when you get a rabbit, and I'm assuming other caged animals- you get to purchase a kit if you want, which is a cage you choose filled with stuff you need like food, bedding, and a water bottle, everything in there being on the employee discount (15%). You can take things out you don't want or switch them out for other things you want (different brand, bedding type, etc). They also clip nails for free whenever you bring your pet in! Overall a great store I recommend to everyone. Fun even just for visits.

Pampered Pets is a small pet retail store in the Pyramid Mall (the new Shoppes at Ithaca Mall)…read more You'll remember Pampered Pets because of the resident Blue and Gold macaw that lives in the store. I don't agree with keeping him in the store (he does get to come out of his cage for a spell when the store closes) but Gene, the owner, believes that the bird, who he rescued 17 years ago, is happier there. Overall the store has a sizable collection of retail items and sells fish, small birds, rodents, and reptiles. They also feature adoptable kittens from SPCA, who are always surrounded by boys and girls and woman, cooing over the cute babies. If I still lived in Ithaca, Pampered Pets wouldn't be my first choice for supplies, but I wouldn't avoid it altogether, either.

Aquariums allow us to bring a little bit of that world into our homes. Having grown up with several aquariums, both fresh and saltwater, I've always appreciated what an aquarium can do for a room (doesn't hurt that I studied marine science in college either). There aren't too many dedicated saltwater aquarium shops in the area so I was excited to check out the Salty Dog. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the reef tank that is beautifully stocked and lit. For anyone who appreciates fish and corals, this place proves itself to be the real deal right from the start. Further into the store, you'll see several tanks with fish and some tanks containing corals and coral fragments. Everything I saw looked to be great quality and very healthy. This isn't your local PetCo where you see some dead fish floating in the tanks. Despite the great location and exceptionally high quality product, the best thing I found with The Salty Dog is the knowledge of the two owners, Adam and Kyle. These guys were both there and I had the opportunity to chat with them for about an hour. It's clear that they both love what they do and want everyone to have a great experience with their aquariums. Adam provided me with a print out that went step-by-step through the process of setting up a saltwater tank. Part of that process requires you to bring a water sample to The Salty Dog to be tested by them before they'll even allow you to buy any livestock. On top of that, they told me they guarantee their fish for about 24 hours! I really enjoyed my trip to The Salty Dog and I look forward to setting up my next tank. Adam and Kyle are great to work with and I'd recommend taking a few minutes to chat with them if you ever stop by. Their knowledge and love for their craft is instantly recognizable. Furthermore, if you're interested in staying up to date on new shipments, store events like frag swaps, and even prize giveaways, look them up on Facebook.
