She was so considerate of being in our home which you'd never know anyone had even been in if she hadn't left the detailed notes about after visiting. She even brought in packages several times! After four scheduled cat sitting services (for 1-2 weeks at a time), I have been thoroughly pleased with ALL of their employees, the high level of communication, the friendliness and the reliability! I am so grateful that they are in Hyde Park and a local business. A few things I've noticed: 1) I get updates with photos and a narrative for every visit. I usually schedule 2 visits every day that I'm gone. 2) No matter which employee visits, I understand from the narrative report that they have read the instructions, and the comments that I've left. For example, this summer, the temperature reached 100 degrees outside, but I had forgotten to turn on the A/C. After leaving a comment to ask that it be put on energy save an set to 72, the next sitter did just that, and sent me photos to verify the settings. This put me completely at ease while being away during a dangerous heatwave. 3) My cats need medication and a special feeding schedule; my instructions are followed and this also helps me feel at ease that the kitties are fine for extended absences. 4) If I need to extend my trip, the online scheduling system is easy to update and I know that I won't have to scramble to find an alternative. The onboarding process if you are a new client is not something that can be done at the last minute; I signed up before I knew I would have a trip planned, but then once the consult was done, it has been completely a breeze to sign up for vacation house sitting appointments. I have been and continue to be very pleased with the services, care, and convenience of Hyde Park Bark!

Extremely disappointing experience after 12 years as a paying customer…read more I have been a paying customer of Hyde Park Animal Hospital for approximately 12 years. My recent experience with my 16-year-old Chihuahua mix has completely undermined my trust in this practice. My dog was experiencing significant hind-leg pain. After an unsuccessful attempt to obtain X-rays while she was awake, I was told sedation was necessary. I agreed despite the risks associated with sedating a senior dog because the purpose was to obtain diagnostic images, have them interpreted by a radiologist, and determine appropriate treatment. My dog was sedated, but NOT A SINGLE X-RAY WAS TAKEN because the hospital's imaging equipment malfunctioned. I have since spoken with other veterinary orthopedic centers whose staff questioned whether sedation would necessarily be required for X-rays. I recognize that individual circumstances differ, but this has raised additional questions about the options presented to me. Despite the failed imaging, I was charged $290.85 for sedation, hospitalization, and fees. Dr. Baker performed an orthopedic examination while my dog was sedated and obtained a useful finding. I acknowledge that. However, a cruciate ligament injury had already been suspected at our previous appointment. The scheduled X-rays, radiologist interpretation, and resulting treatment recommendations were never provided. Equipment can malfunction unexpectedly. But why should I bear the cost when the hospital cannot complete the procedure for which my dog was sedated? I also question whether the equipment was confirmed operational before sedation. The consent process was troubling. I observed a staff member checking approval boxes on my paperwork without first asking for my consent. I was also asked to authorize approximately $200-$1,400 in potential emergency-care expenses without receiving a clear explanation of the services covered. When I declined that authorization, the employee remarked, "No one has ever declined to approve this money before." I found this inappropriate and pressuring. My right to make informed decisions about my dog's care should not depend on what other customers supposedly approve. Communication was equally disappointing. I found Dr. Baker very terse. When I requested to speak with her about my dissatisfaction, I was told I would have to wait until after her lunch break. Even while I remained at the hospital waiting for documentation, she made no effort to speak with me directly. No one apologized for the equipment malfunction, the unsuccessful appointment, or the distress and inconvenience caused. When I requested a refund, the hospital refused and offered to repeat the sedation at no charge after repairing the equipment. I was unwilling to subject my injured, 16-year-old dog to another sedation at the same facility. Staff also would not bring my dog out until I paid the $290.85 charge. She had just undergone sedation, and I wanted to see her and confirm she was okay. I paid to get my dog back and take her home, not because I agreed the charges were justified. When I mentioned disputing the charge, a front-desk clerk told me that doing so would mean I could no longer be a customer. After 12 years of paying for veterinary care here, I found that response appalling. I left without the X-rays, radiologist interpretation, or treatment plan I had scheduled the appointment to obtain. I have since filed a dispute through CareCredit. This was about more than a broken X-ray machine. It was about exposing my elderly dog to sedation without completing the intended procedure, charging me anyway, questionable consent practices, dismissive communication, no apology, and being told that disputing the bill could end a 12-year relationship. I brought my dog here because I trusted this practice to help her. I left feeling dismissed, pressured, and deeply disappointed. After 12 years, I expected far better accountability and respect.

UPDATED REVIEW I…read morefeel for Patricia L., and empathize. After we moved our kitty to another vet (Metropolitan Veterinary Center, 15th and Michigan) in July 2024, we found out the poor creature had very bad kidney stones and possible diabetes. As much as Dr Jeremy Williams examined her, he NEVER said anything to the effect that we should take her for kidney screening after she had multiple UTIs. We took urinalysis tests and other screenings. We had to switch her to kidney food by Hill's Science at some point, and control her blood sugar. In July of THIS year she became sick again with an infection, and the emergency vet did a lot of VERY expensive tests and found SO many things we did not find, not even the 'new' vet! I think the ER doc wondered what the old vet was even doing that they didn't find this many problems. I don't think this location nor the Stony Island location has the equipment to find anything serious. We had to put her down as all the problems she had at such an advanced age (15 or so) would have made her quality of life so poor. If we had moved her to the other vet sooner I am 99% sure we would have avoided more pain and discomfort for her. Avoid this place if at all possible, here AND Stony Island. We are hoping their certification becomes revoked!

Aimee recently took care of my rescue, and her service was excellent!…read more I recently adopted a small dog who I am absolutely in love with. I only had him for a short piece of time and had necessarily built up a network for him yet, so when my boss sent me on a week long business trip I was freaking out because I hadn't necessarily secured a dog walker or boarding services. I reached out to several places and none of them were able to take my dog on short notice. I did have a conversation with another service that actually excepted my job but last minute totally flaked less than 24 hours before I was due to board my plane!!! I called Aimee in a full on panic! I let her know what was going on and she immediately came over to my house to assess the situation and feasibility of my job. She had several other things going on but due to my circumstance she took my job and executed it flawlessly! My dog was boarded at my home but she came by twice a day to clean his enclosure and take him for walks. She did so as contracted. I have a camera in my basement so I was able to see every time she came over in the exchange and she treated my dog so wonderful!!!! That meant a lot to me. Amy not only save me from a potential disaster but she also gave me the assurance that my pet was taken care of with love.
