Inside was Christmas in all its plastic glory -- pillows shaped like gingerbread men, lights bright enough to land airplanes, fake wreaths, garland that could survive a hurricane, and candy canes made of Styrofoam thick enough to stop a bullet. They had art supplies, hobby stuff, and furniture no one needed but everyone suddenly had to have. And when they came back out, bags in hand, faces lit up like the manger scene at the courthouse, you could tell -- for a moment at least -- they'd found joy, or a close enough imitation to get them through December.

We went to check out and the line went way into the store itself. There were 25-30 people ready to checkout! What a joke! There was ONE CASHIER for all these people. The cashier wasn't in any hurry at all! She was taking her sweet time checking people out. When it was clear we would be in line for at least an hour we just left our cart and left the store! Fast forward a couple months and once again we went to Gabe's for some good deals. NOT a good idea! Once again we went to checkout and we encountered the same damned thing! For $100, I left with an incredible folk art diorama ($40), 3 small folk art prints ($3 each), a new handmade boutique quality country chic shawl, a cute ceramic dish shaped like eyeglasses (to hold your glasses), and 2 handmade soaps. That is really incredible. I often leave stores like this empty handed because they are so overpriced, but this was definitely worth my time. The ladies working there were also the sweetest! She showed us the different color options and offered to send some wood samples with different stains home with us. Sophia also showed us a few chair options we could go with.
