Built on the…read moresite of historic barrel vaults, this inner sanctuary has a sense or calm and stillness far removed from busy city life. If you want luxury, pampering and fitness - then this is your place. The spa and health club are never packed full and on numerous occasions I have had the swimming pool to myself. The pool is 1.4m deep and approximately 15 x 10 metres. There is a chill out area surrounding the pool, along with a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The gym offers a good range of equipment, including two running machines, three cross trainers, four bikes, one rowing machine, two weights machines and more. There is also a weights room for those wanting to focus! After exercising, the changing rooms have powerful hot showers with Gilchrist and Soames shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Also great hairdressers and straightners for the ladies! Want some pampering? There are various packages - a day or couple of hours etc. Facials and massages tried and tested - and I would highly recommend them. If you go for the Premier club (gym, pool, sauna etc) membership you get a complimentary spa treatments per month - so cool! Lush green apples are beautifully displayed for you to munch on after exercising or your pampering session and two choices of newspapers to read as you chill out. Cost wise - pretty good value for what you get. Love it love it!

I think perhaps I've become a bit of a 'London Snob' because I assumed Titanic would be nice, but…read moresurely the ones in London would be better? Wrong! Titanic Spa is truly excellent, and certainly not a poor northern imitation. I booked an overnight stay for Mrs D and myself for her Christmas present, originally pencilled in for Valentine's Day (that's right, two presents in one. Smooth right?) but due to some pregnancy related issues, we needed to move the booking to her birthday weekend in October. The bookings team were great at accommodating the change, and did so at no extra cost. When we arrived, we changed into our fluffy brown dressing gowns (I think there is only one size, so I looked a bit ridiculous, as if I was wearing a child's gown, but I was determined to be chilled) and checked out the facilities. Our apartment was really tastefully converted into a split-level 1 bed, with a double height ceiling in the lounge and a mezzanine bedroom. Who doesn't want a balcony inside their apartment? I think if you looked to rent this place in central London, it would cost upwards of £1200 per month! The spa itself has all of the facilities you might expect, and some you maybe wouldn't. Different types of steam rooms, with varying aromas, plunge pools, the ice bucket, multiple saunas, a 15m swimming pool with a swim-in jacuzzi, an OUTDOOR hot tub (which I didn't use, I mean come on, it's October) and even a mudding chamber (charged extra) so you can feel like Louis Litt from Suits. The unexpected highlight for me though was the food. I had a tasty prawn linguine at lunch time, but the belly pork and black pudding I had for dinner was sublime! We each had 3 treatments. We started with a 1 hour full body massage in the VIP room together which was nice, I opted for a deep tissue massage to get the baby-related knots out and it felt quite nice, but I enjoyed the facial much more which surprised me. It was so relaxing! We both then booked our 3rd treatments, Mrs D had a hand moisturising treatment, I opted for another back and shoulder massage, just to get the last few knots out! After an uninterrupted 9 hour sleep, (something we haven't had for 12 weeks) we checked out and made our way to Huddersfield train station (£6 in a taxi) feeling well and truly refreshed! When I thought of luxury and relaxation, Huddersfield wasn't at the forefront of my mind before, but it is now!

Also being crammed into economy class with little room to stretch my legs and back doesn't help finding the energy to get back to work or relax. But after coming back from Vegas, my last 10 hour flight, I was determined to get back into balance a bit quicker with a little help from Bali Spa. Conveniently situated in the heart of the city centre, it was only a short walk in my delirious jetlag state through the streets of China Town to find this gem of a SPA. Leaving Manchester behind once you walk up the first floor, you truly feel like you are back on holiday! Yay prolonging the relaxation and easing the jet lag. The luxurious interior of Bali spreads over three floor and is about the most beautiful seeting I have seen in any location in Manchester so far. Its surprisingly quiet and airy, given the busy location. You are instantly welcomed by the friendly staff and find yourself lounging on the comfy sofa, sipping a glass of Aloe Juice or tea. After your treatment you are also welcome to stay and are not ushered out for the next appointment waiting. Their treatments range from various types of massages, manicures and pedicures to facial treatments using PAYOT products. I was booked in for a full Indian head and neck massage, of 60 minutes and welcomed by Anna, who explained the whole procedure in detail. She also made sure I was not allergic to any of the ingredients used on my skin. I can be quite sensitive to anything scented so I decided to stay away from lavender or tea tree old. She was also very gentle and professional in her approach, all her movements were executed as a choreography, knowing exactly where to apply pressure. To be honest I am fairly hesitant to trust someone to give me a massage as I know how much damage can be done with the wrong technique, but felt in absolutely safe hands here.
