The owner is the Queen of queens and quite a character. I always leave with a smile on my face even if it's just a passing comment as I'm walking past. There is a second level with an electric collection of tables to dine at - great if you're with a group bigger than 4 - there's little atmosphere here, however there's loads of it at street level and the handful of plastic tables on the footpath out the front are usually full of regulars enjoying the food and conversation. Whether you stop for a meal or grab a muffin as you walk by, it's well worth a visit.

So if longevity is indicative of quality, this place has got it in spades! (Tragic pun intended). I don't go here for the coffee... although not bad, there are better offerings nearby; it is the food which keeps me going back. Fresh, tasty and reasonably priced, the pies, lasagnes and quiches are all homemade and especially good. They come served with your choice of salad or vegetables (it depends on what's in season and what they have made up on the day but you'll be given choices). This place is about honest food that's simple and tasty. It is also great for those who are keen for a bit of friendly banter with the very eccentric proprietor whose name I have shamefully forgotten. He is perhaps the modern day embodiment of the queen of tarts herself; holding no bones about affectionately labelling me a tart on most visits! I assume this is intended as a complement... surely, he is just insinuating we have a lot in common? His unique charm is lost on some, but intentions are good and he will definitely make sure you and your stomach are taken care of. Highly recommended!

Cargo Catering Co - Beautiful Cactus food van

I met Cargo on Saturday's Flinders Street sweet tooth market, the light green van with vivid cactus…read moredesign caught my eyes among many tempting food trucks. The menu on that day was: Buffalo wings, Thai style scotch egg with brown rice and herb salad, Spicy KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) Burger and also some fries. I have to say their buffalo wings are the best I have had, it's covered with beautiful sauces but not over salty or make you think the sauce is too much. It perfectly combined with the fried chicken wings underneath, you can taste crispy and succulent in one bite. The blue cheese dipping also make the flavour up to a higher level, I had blue cheese once and hated it, but this dipping sauce is in an completely opposite end, the taste is so creamy and milky without any unpleasant sense, it adds the extra taste to the wings when you feel a little bored about them, the celery that come along with did the job too. Like the first review this food van received said, 'very moreish'. I agree, it even made me think of return to the next day of the sweet tooth market only for that and give up the sunday Fork on the Road which I already planned (well now I can see I'm tracing with food) But glad to see those girls choose to join the Fork on the Road the next day, but unfortunately, the two popular staff gone so quick when my friend and I want to 'moreish' back to the buffalo wings and try the KFC burger, so we tried their Thai style scotch egg with salad, the eggs are being covered into an extra layer and deep fried, but I like the brown rice and herb salad on the side, it's a asian style salad with cilantro and peanuts which reminds me of some home dishes and it's a pleasant surprise. Doesn't like Sneaky pickles or Delectballs, this 'naughty girl' does't have a regular timetable on streets but show up in different events, which makes it more attractive because you'll always think of it but can't always get it Lol, what a proud beauty!

The staff are friendly, the service is fast, the price is about what you'd expect and the food was full of flavour. Will definitely hit up this van again. I also found out recently that they do private catering! Good one to keep in mind.

I have had to take 2 days off work, loss of income due to food poorly prepared and cooked. Not only that, staff kept coming up to me asking annoying questions about containers and jugs. We were finally told to go to the website and choose our selections. We had paid for the full package ( 6 finger foods, 4 pizza toppings and 2 spit roasts) I was then advised that they don't provide some of the selection options anymore. We were also originally told that they would not need the kitchen and even FAQ section says they don't, well we were told one week out that they would need the kitchen at 1-1.30pm( not at all convenient) on the day, they FINALLY arrived at 3pm and no kitchen staff or waitresses in sight. This was followed by serving food we didn't order, only 2 toppings and RAW CHICKEN!!!! I was offered a miserable $150 refund after paying almost $4000 AND guests got sick. Absolutely disgusting service and I would not recommend them to anyone. I can organised this booking 3 months in advance too. Clare and Greg

And very delicious coffee. What a way to start the day. For breakfast, I would recommend getting something between two with a couple of sides and sharing. If you are still hungry you can then go round two. Sit at the bar or nab a table in the lane. Bar is better because you can watch them cook. You can get an $8 toastie which is so, so good or something bigger that will involve above mentioned items. On weekends there are bloody marys with Fino sherry. Yum. After breakfast you can shop then come back and take advantage of the very delicious small plates and tapas whilst you take a break from your market shop. Or paella. AND they have a very good alcohol list. So if you are finished buying your non perishables, grab a seat at the bar, grab a wine/beer/sherry and a plate of jamon/chorizo/pintxos whilst reviewing your shopping list. You will never forget shopping items again. Excellent people watching spot too. Hire these guys for events.
