Update 8/2014 - We've lived here for years and while I can still say the staff is nice it seems the…read morequality of tenants here has gotten pretty bad. We've had to call the police non-emergency number very often this year due to extremely loud crashing and music very late in the night/extremely early in the morning. Cans are strung up in trees for neighbors to shoot at and we've had wet trash dumped in our empty trash cans when we've left it out for pickup. If you're a quiet person and can't get a top floor apartment here you may run into problems. ----- I've been living at Artisan at Brightleaf since August 2012 when I moved to the area from several states away. I originally found the apartments through recommendations from friends who had switched from an apartment complex next to the Briar Creek shopping center, and chose Artisan at Brightleaf after personally touring it and many others in the area. At the time, Artisan was completely brand new. Many of the apartments were still being built, they were still working out exactly what they would offer in certain services, and some of the landscaping was not complete. I expected there to be issues with construction noise and possibly other mixups - after living in Atlanta, GA for several years I've become very sensitive about getting some quiet and respect. None of my worries happened. They were very smart about keeping construction under control and I was surprised to find it complete as I never heard the noise! The landscaping was completed and beautiful, there were never any issues with billing, nothing to complain about whatsoever. Through my months of living at Artisan I've only had one real problem with a neighbor who developed an obsession with playing dubstep as loud as possible. Here's where I have advice to anyone sharing a wall with neighbors - there's not much apartment staff can do when you don't let them know and you don't try to record any proof. I let staff know about the neighbor, recorded a little video just in case, and the issue was dealt with wonderfully quickly. It feels good to know that the people who maintain your living complex honestly do care about you. Artisan has trash pick-up from your front door Sundays through Thursdays (which is FANTASTIC, I've never even heard of this service before!) and there is a large trash and recycling deposit area that is an easy walk away. All of my maintenance requests were handled quickly by very respectful and kind maintenance staff. Originally packages were held at the front office, but it seems that now most packages get delivered to your apartment. I've never had anything but pleasant interactions with staff, both on and off the complex. The gym and pool areas are top-notch and kept very clean - which is important when you're sharing equipment and grills with many other people! About those grills, by the way, they're by the pool and feature minifridges. The staff is great about hosting events and food trucks that keep the community involved. The complex is extremely safe (again, I used to live in Atlanta, so this was extremely important to me) and I've never felt uneasy - each apartment even gets two locked doors, one for the porch and one for the main entrance! The apartments themselves are designed extremely well. I'm definitely no decorator, but every guest (including family and "in-laws") have given me compliments about how nice the apartment is. So far I've seen the smaller one-bedroom and I live in a larger two-bedroom, both have kitchens that flow into the living room and a fantastic amount of storage space. All of the appliances are new and electric (you'll be hard pressed to find gas in an apartment) and work perfectly despite all of the food-related trauma we put them through. We're never at a loss for electrical outlets and since completion of construction there have not been power or internet outages (Time Warner) in the area. I've fallen in love with RTP and have been recommending these apartments to anyone looking into the area. If you're thinking of checking them out yourself, don't be afraid to leave a message at the front office asking for what the monthly special is, as they seem to love running themed promotions. *An edit of things I forgot to add in the initial review: - There is a monthly pet rent addition of what I believe is $10 per pet. The complex is very pet friendly with many dog waste stations and a small dog park. I personally have two cats who love to sit on the well-sized windowsills - In my experience the majority of people at Artisan are professional adults, young adult couples, and families without young children - I use Verizon and reliably get 4G throughout the complex

If you're moving here, by God you better remember to give them a 60 day notice when you move out…read morebecause they absolutely will fuck you in the ass with the extra charges. My lease ended on 8/05 and I gave them notice on 6/24. So they extended my lease to 8/24 (2 extra weeks that I didn't ask for) and charged me the month-to-month rent price of $2000+ for the 19 additional days (mind you, I was already moved out before the 19 additional days even started) which costed me $1873 and they charged me an additional $360 for leaving a few drill holes in the walls. Assistant Manager Deborah Kelly is a narcissist and will play in your face. Had the nerve to laugh at me while I was explaining to her how this isn't right. Also don't expect the maintenance staff to handle your requests in a timely manner. Save your response, I don't care to hear your bs excuses. Do better by the residents that shovel money into your pockets.

My husband, daughter and I lived here for one year. We have lived in three previous apartments, and…read morethis was the best. Pros: - Excellent, thoughtful management. The manager even lives in the apartments. - Beautiful new gym and pool area. The gym has vaulted ceilings with wood beams, and each elliptical and treadmill has its own built-in TV. - Our daughter loved the playground. - Hardwood floors, granite countertops, washer/dryer in each apartment. - Friendly neighbors. It seemed to me that about half of the residents were graduate students and the other half were older professionals. We made lots of friends. - Smoke free community. There is no smoking inside or outside in The Springs. Cons: - The master bedroom of our first floor apartment was located right outside six very loud HVAC units. - Since the units have hardwood floors, you can hear people walking in the apartment above you. - Dogs are permitted, and even though the management provides plenty of dog waste bags and trash areas, a couple of residents don't pick up after their pets.

It's been the easiest apartment living experience and when my lease came up for renewal, I was able to find an option that was similar in price to my current rate. When it does, there is consistent communication and updates from them.

After having less than stellar property management in my two previous places, the management here is a breathe of fresh air. Keep up the good work!

My minor complaints were that it felt the gym didn't have enough variety in fitness equipment, and that I wish the community held more events for its residents. I struggled to meet my neighbors, and didn't feel a strong sense of community between residents while I was there. Though I understand many apartment complexes do not try to facilitate interaction between neighbors, I am new to the area, so living in a complex that does was important to me. However, there are far more perks to living at Garrett West than negatives. I did not attend grad school at Duke so I can't speak on that, but the location is fabulous -- nearly equidistant between Chapel Hill and downtown Durham. The main road 15-501 has a variety of restaurants, department and regular stores, and the apartment is less than 5 minutes from a grocery store, an international food market, Target and Walmart. It is also right next to I-40. Overall, I enjoyed living at Garrett West and would recommend it to a friend.

We have had…read morecockroaches in our apartment this year - about two months ago, there was a very large wood roach in the bedroom, and that same night, there was a sizable cockroach in the bathroom. When we called the manager, she told us they were water bugs coming from the drain. She said the only big roaches that exist are water bugs. Both my husband and I know that is not true but she refuses to listen to the facts and keeps insisting its water bugs from the drain. She also told us that recent heavy rain brought them in (it hadn't rained that hard). She told us she would send pest control - they came while I was out of the house for 20 mins and left a card but not a single sign of doing anything. Today, I go to get a spoon from the kitchen island drawer and a 2 inch roach appears. I call again. She tells me again that it is only a water bug - as if ONLY a water bug makes things better? - and just flatly offers to sign me up for pest control. Like I would say no to that. She did nothing to make me feel better, talked over me the whole time, refused to listen as I told her there were such things as Palmetto bugs (American cockroaches, they can be up to 3 inches long). Before living here, I was in an apartment in Los Angeles that wasn't that fancy but I never saw anything like this. Pest control is supposedly coming tomorrow - they only come on Fridays. Do not trust the manager at Garrett West.

These apartments are older and have their drawbacks, but my experience renting from Trinity…read moredefinitely makes up for any negatives. I rented a duplex unit here for 2 years. We loved the older charm of the unit (hardwoods, high ceilings, huge windows), and the kitchen was nicely updated. Some of the drawbacks were the cost of utilities because the home wasn't well insulated, and the occasional maintenance issue, but these are just old property issues and not Trinity specific. We were always super impressed with their responsiveness to any maintenance issues. This is a real stand out to us in terms of positives, and made a great impression. Also, they are incredibly fair with returning the security deposit, which you don't see very often! The people working in the office are all very kind and helpful. We wholeheartedly recommend these apartments to anyone looking for an attentive landlord, as long as your okay with dealing with the charms of older properties.

#123/2016 Another…read morecouple and I showed up to the Trinity offices and owner Guy Solie took us out to view his available units. Once inside the Murchison apartments, the other couple pushed me aside and practically bowled me over to be first in the door, pounding Guy with questions then informing him they "probably" wanted the place but had "one more place to see and they'd be back soon" and abruptly left. Guy looked at me with a friendly smile and said, "Can I give you a quick tour?" I loved the place instantly: the big windows, spacious living area and hardwood throughout. The kitchen was as small as a postage stamp (recent photos show they expanded and remodeled it) and said I was ready to sign. He smiled and said, "I'm so glad you do. Those other folks weren't very polite; you seem like you'd be a very nice tenant." Guy was a terrific landlord and true to Trinity's website, the apartments were a great value, especially since they were close proximity to Duke University. I rented two apartments from Trinity at the Murchison Apartments on Demerious Street and Georgetown Apartments, my favorite being Georgetown because it had a large eat-in kitchen and pantry and two spacious bedrooms upstairs. (Murchison was a little quirkier and smaller, it was still a cute place. It had a fantastic storage area under the stairs where I stashed Christmas decorations and luggage). Both apartments were townhouses and very cozy with central air conditioning, a *must for those sweltering summers in the South. Both apartments were very well maintained by Trinity. After Guy had bought the Georgetown apartments he asked if we'd like to take a look. It was literally dollars more a month with an extra bedroom and extra 1/4 bath. He even let me choose the carpeting and linoleum from (4) samples and remodeled it fully before we moved in. If I ever moved back to the Triangle area, I'd call Guy for help navigating the real estate market since he is a very savvy real estate investor and/or rent from him again. All these years later, I still have the move/out form with a personal note from Guy that reads, "Thanks for leaving the place in such super shape!" All these years later, fond memories from a fabulous landlord. If you're looking for an apartment in Durham or Raleigh, start with Trinity Apartments.

I've lived at Cosgrove Hill for about six months and can honestly say that this place is as good as…read moreit gets in terms of apartment living. Kevin and Paul do a fantastic job with management overall and made me feel very welcome when I initially moved in. There are also regular community events of one type or another. Maintenance has always been prompt and you can enter requests using the resident portal. From what I've read, these units were originally built to be condos and the quality of my unit shows it -- there are nice touches like hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, and track lighting. The climate control works great and my unit appears to be very energy efficient -- I always turn the A/C or heat off when leaving for work in the morning and when I return in the evening, the temperature is within five degrees of when I left no matter how hot or cold it was during the day. In my experience, Cosgrove Hill is also quiet.... I don't hear my neighbors and noise from outside the building is minimal (well, maybe except for the occasional sirens on Fordham Blvd). The location is great... a lot of shopping and dining is minutes away, although not quite walking distance. I work at UNC and it's a five mile drive. Cosgrove Hill might be slightly more expensive than other apartment complexes in the area, but in my experience it's well worth it -- based upon my experience you can't go wrong choosing to live there.

The management conveniently added stricter rules after I moved in, even though they were much more relaxed beforehand.
