Buying gasoline in Southeast Portland, Oregon... After driving the rental car around Seattle, Washington, for a couple of days, we drove to Portland, Oregon and needed to fill up the gas tank. I used my Yelp app and searched for "cheap gas". That's how we found ARCO. I couldn't believe the sign that read: "$3.09" I thought that it might be a mistake... But it was not. I gave $30 cash to the clerk inside the convenience store and filled up the rental car. Wow... That's the best price I've seen in a very long time! read more

I was so excited seeing the price that they had listed for gas even as the credit purchase. Most gas places give you the cash price if you use your debit card. This spot has signs saying that the pin does not work which is inaccurate. I used mine just fine but still got charged for the credit price yet not because the price listed was lower than the price at the pump. Arco locations just all seem to have their own shady shit that they do. In a pinch though, they are the lower priced option in the area. read more

Decided to stop here after passing 5-10 gas stations while driving around town. Stopped because ARCO usually has good prices, but didn't check prices before pulling up. When pumping I looked at their sign and it only had 87 pricing (cash and credit). While paying at pump I realized that the 92 was $1.50 per gallon more than the 87. Of course it's going to cost more, but this is a gouge after purposefully only listing the 87 on the sign. Not stopping here again. Do what you want based upon this review, other reviews, or your gut. Also, 98% sure that ARCO stations are typically a franchise with a unique owner for each one (excluding multi franchise owning individuals or organizations that own multiple). The ARCO where I grew up was going through a rough patch like 5 years ago. Closed randomly, expensive gas, and the oil change station was filled with someone's belongings (crap). About 4.5 years ago ARCO bought/took the franchise back and it is now one of best in town with slamming prices. Watch out for the ARCO Avengers you price gouging swindlers. read more

I had a DoorDash order that could not be fulfilled due to lack of stock and he insured proper contact with me so that I could change or re-adjust my selection, and he was extremely helpful, kind, patient, and a chiller. This place steals money from people!!! We almost got scammed by the lady at this station at 2:52pm today 2/26. Literally gave her 20 cash, the pump didn't start. went in to be told we were lying and pumped it, and to wait a second to have the manager review the footage. We had an empty tank and showed her video of our tank meanwhile numerous people were coming in with pump problems upset and being told not to worry their cards weren't getting charged. But no, they are definitely grifting people. 30 minutes go by, they obviously were trying to get us to leave till FINALLY they set the pump for us and offered a drink for the wait. This is an ARCO gas station. I am also reporting an incident that took place on June 4th, 2018 at 8:15pm. I pulled into the station to put air in my tire that my VW was reading as low. When I got out I discovered that the tire had a large puncture hole from a piece of metal. I went into the trunk to change the tire, but the jack was not a normal one, and there was these lug nut covering that I could not figure out how to get off. The gas attendant who had dreads, and his name started with a V...? came right over... then acted like he called the owner..(I do not believe he spoke to the owner). He made another phone call walking far way from me on his cell, and said his friend is coming with a tow truck. What?? I never asked him. Told me the truck was coming from Walla walla...45 minutes away. Did he not know that Walla Walla is in Western Washington and is 4 hours away??!! He was lying. Note: I never asked the guy to change my tire. Why was he trying to get his friend there with a "tow truck"... which I did not need!??! I had a spare tire, and a confusing jack, and there were cars pulling up all the time, and I had AAA. What a joke! I just needed help get the lug nuts off and with the weird jack. Told him to have his friend "not come, the car does not need towing"..I had the spare tire. He kept saying "don't worry I got you" . When I said it need a hex wrench,... he was saying "he got that, I'm a hook you up. I got you." Wow weird. I said "I don't have money, but I have AAA". He repeatedly told me "I got you, I got you" and not to call AAA as his friend was coming! I called AAA! He would say "Call them back... you don't need them" repetedly. Why would he be telling me for 40-minutes to call AAA back and "cancel them", unless he and his friend were up to something? (This is such a scam). He was trying to get me to cancel the AAA truck and his friend was coming from Walla Walla. Very unethical and shady con he was trying to pull. The attendant was trying to get his friend to tow my car to a possible "chop shop" or extort $$$ from me, as I didn't ask this guy, and he repeatedly kept telling me to call AAA back...to cancel them as his buddy was coming. This guy was relentless!! He actually did not back off till I told him about my dog in the back of the car... she is large. She was quiet as she listens to me. My back windows are darkened, so you can't see her. He looked in my window and started backing away from my car. Very weird, very fishy. I had never seen this new worker before, and if he pulled this with me he would do this again. I'm not that stupid, and this is being reported. Note: I did report this to Oregon Consumer protection bureau. And called ARCO Oregon office. BEWARE of this SCAM!! Owner of this company contact me. I never realized this ARCO-AM/PM was called Belmont Auto Service. I've never made use of their auto maintenance or mechanical services, so I can't speak to that. What I can say is that gas here is much, Much, MUCH cheaper than any other spot I've seen in the city. As Steve B notes in his review, ARCO likes to advertise nationally that they're "five to ten cents cheaper than the other guys" - and while that is certainly true of most of the other ARCO spots I see around town, this one on SE 39th and Belmont often seems even cheaper than that - as much as 20 cents lower than other nearby gas stations! It is true that they charge a flat $0.50 fee for using debit (and you have to go inside to use your card), but if you average that over say, 10 gallons, you'll probably still come out about 5 cents cheaper than many other spots. Personally I save the hassle (and as much money as possible) by just paying cash. This also has the added advantage of helping me budget my car travel expenses so I'm more mindful of how much gas I'm burning on little trips that could be accomplished on foot or via Tri-Met. If you hate carrying cash and MUST pay with a card, check out the new (at least to me) ARCO debit Mastercard (http://www.arco.com/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=16002960&contentId=7051464) which links to your existing checking account like a normal debit card, earns you "rewards" rebates, and allows you to purchase ARCO gas or any AM/PM purchases WITHOUT the "convenience fee". A couple tips: +They have like 3 islands of pumps, but the 1 oriented east-west (along Belmont) often is closed; I think because they sometimes don't have enough pump attendants. +Because of the low prices, it can get awfully crowded (especially in the hour or so before or after people head to work) - this can be especially irritating if they don't open those other pumps! +If you DO pay cash you often get a little extra splash of free gas, because the pumps apparently don't have an auto cut-off like at most other stations. Tell them you want $20 bucks of regular and the guy has to manually stop it when $20 is reached...if he hit's $20.01 you got a penny of free gas! Believe me, it's more fun than playing video crack because, even if you don't win that bonus overfill, you NEVER lose! +For months now the compressed air at this station has been free because the coin acceptor on the machine is broken, so they just leave it running. Even if they ever DO get it fixed, it only costs $0.25; which is far more reasonable than the $0.75 that many other stations charge. All in all, while I try to limit my driving as much as possible, I just don't have the discipline to cut it out altogether, and this ARCO location helps me keep within my budget. read more

This review is of the Arco gas at this station: The rave reviews over how "cheap" Arco really is, further exemplifies a country that is too lazy to do their homework, so they fall for the advertising traps. Hello, it's a .50 charge to use a debit/credit card, people!! That's why it is cheaper, as the majority of Americans use their plastic as opposed to cash, especially to fill up a full tank; Arco banks on this. And they don't tell you until you go to pay. This can be very misleading for most people, and I definitely consider it to be a false misrepresentation of costs. If you are a cash user most of the time, cool, this can work for you if you don't travel too far to get to it, which defeats the purpose of the savings. However, Arco's in California had lawsuits against them, and most workers in my experience have been insanely rude and unaccommodating. The gas pumpers at this Belmont location are very nice the few times I have made it here. But, small station and all the pumps are never working, so convenience and efficiency lose out as well if you need gas during peak hours. I'll never get used to this ridiculous no-self-gas-pumping crap they dish out in this socialist state, but if you have to wait for someone else, and you don't have cash, skip Arco and go somewhere that doesn't have lawsuits lingering. Best air compressor in the area - hands down. With the recent fluctuations in temperature, the air pressure notification on my dashboard has been going off every two weeks! I live in between this Gas station and the Shell up the street and previously always frequented the shell. Their air costs 75 cents and I swear you only get a mere minute of air. Even if i hustle, that's not enough time to fill up 4 tires! Earlier today I pulled into Shell to get air and spent the time removing the caps from each four of my tires in the freezing cold before realize that their air compressor was out of order. All of the attendants were standing around watching but no one bothered to say anything while they watched me test each of my tires with my personal gauge. I left in a huff and went to this gas station. The air is only $.50 and it gave me at least three minutes. I had plenty of time to fill up my tires and even left before the machine turned off! No more $0.35 convenience fee due to pending legislation at the state level against ARCO (and its franchisees) claiming this is against Oregon law somehow. This is my review of the Belmont Arco, it's currently listed as Belmont Auto service which is what it used to be, they no longer offer that service, so don't be coming up to the gas station and expect them to service your car. That said I have to say I've been coming here off and on for a while now and want to give praise where it's due, I continue to observe and receive wonderful service, the attendants are efficient as they can be, getting me in and out and on my way. The store is kept clean, and the cashiers always greet me, and make sure I have everything I need during my visit! They have updated their wine selection since the last time I was in, and added a doughnut warmer I've been treated very poorly at other and might I add more expensive gas stations!!! So this Arco has gained a customer for life! Oh also they a machine that makes you milkshake in a minute! Very delicious and convenient! Thanks all keep up the good work! read more

ARCO masquerades as a cheap, "5 to 10 cents cheaper than the other guys" class of gas station, but they like to sneak in little things like "debit or cash only" and when you choose debit, they charge you a 50 cent fee. Let's do the math here, if you're filling up about 10 gallons like I do, and you're saving 5 cents, but then paying a 50 cent fee, you actually save NOTHING! I hold high disdain for those who misrepresent their costs. To boot, the service behind the counter has been rather unfriendly and rude the past 2 times I have used this station. Horrible service! Told the guy I wanted 20 regular and he pumped it to 40. He then slammed the gas handle, slammed my gas tank door. Called me a effing prick. And a F****. He then got in my face and kept calling me names. Went inside to find a manager and guess what, no manager was a round. I got the number of a so called manager and they still have not returned 3 phone calls. It's been over 2 weeks. DO NOT GO THERE! I don't trust ARCO gasoline, so I don't buy it from here. But since we drive by this place on the way to work anyways, we stop to get cigarettes here. A carton of Camel cigarettes is only $46, at least $15 cheaper than Fred Meyer or Shell. It's worth the 35 cent fee for your debit card, in my mind. read more
