I know they will prepare her for kindergarten. I just hope whatever kindergarten she goes to is ready for the level she'll be at so that she doesn't regress. If you're searching for a learning center that's positive, clean, loving, and actually teaches your child, I recommend you take a tour and see for yourself. You will be amazed! I felt that my concerns about racial harassment and discrimination involving children of color were not taken seriously. In my opinion, there was a lack of transparency and accountability from the administration, and I often felt that issues were minimized rather than addressed. I also felt that many staff members had close personal or family ties to the church community, which made it difficult for families outside of those circles to feel heard or supported. While the school presents itself as welcoming and student-focused, my experience was very different. I felt that promises made to our family were not honored and that tuition became the priority over the well-being of students. Based on my experience, I would encourage families--especially families of color--to ask detailed questions, pay close attention to how concerns are handled, and make sure the school's values align with their own before enrolling. At the time of this review, my kids are 6 and 9 (1st and 3rd grades). Both have attended the school since Kindergarten. My 6 yr old also attended Pre-K at Holy Redeemer. We were first drawn to HRS for its reputation in our neighborhood as being a welcoming school with a firm anti-bullying stance. The teachers and administration work hard to maintain a supportive learning environment where students feel welcome and wanted. What sets HRS apart from other area schools is its small class sizes, its balanced and integrated STEM curriculum, and its committment to developing the whole person. HRS students are some of the nicest kids I have ever met -- kind, excited about service opportunities, curious about their world, eager to help each other, excited about math! The teachers here are incredible educators that encourage collaboration and inspire a joyful curiousity in their students. What I love most about the school is how the teachers (due to the small class sizes and their tenure at the school) really know and look out for my kids. This personal attention has really helped my kids to thrive -- both academically and personally. I also work in a STEM field, and the administration and teachers are very open and receptive to my recommendations of activities/extra-curriculars. They have also granted me many opportunities to share my organization's work with the students - which is so fun! The inclusive, respectful, and inviting environment cultivated by the teachers, students, and parents makes Julia Brown a fantastic community for any child to be a part of. On my child's first day back to school this week, she started in a new classroom with a new lead teacher. She shared with me, unprompted, that the teacher sat with her at the table on a small chair during lunch and ate alongside her. My child went into detail about how the teacher used sauce with her food, and she was also excited to share that her teacher taught her a new song to get ready to line up and was genuinely kind. The fact that a grown person sat on a toddler-sized chair to cultivate community is a big deal in itself, but to sit, eat, have a real conversation, and model respect and kindness goes above and beyond. From the Director of the school, Ms. Jones, to the Directress (shoutout to Ms. Espinal) and the many wonderful teachers who make up the faculty, I am so impressed. I am truly grateful for how much my child has grown, learned, and been cared for here. Whenever my husband or I have had a question, the faculty team has always been incredibly responsive. Ms. Jones's leadership has been fantastic, and I am so excited for my child to continue her journey this school year!

When my daughter was placed in a new classroom, she had been there for less than a full day before we began receiving calls asking us to pick her up because she was "not listening to instructions." As any parent knows, transitions to a new classroom can be challenging for young children. It typically takes time for them to feel comfortable with new teachers, classmates, and expectations. Instead of allowing her a reasonable adjustment period or working with us on strategies to help her settle in, the school seemed irritated by the situation and quick to remove her from the classroom. We were hoping the staff would demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a child-centered approach--giving her at least a week or two to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, that level of support and understanding was not demonstrated. Repeated calls to pick her up after such a short time in the classroom made it feel like the priority was convenience rather than helping a child succeed. Every child deserves educators who are willing to guide them through transitions with patience and care. We had hoped for a more supportive and professional approach from the school in ensuring that our child had the opportunity to adjust and thrive.

Every detail of the day seems carefully considered. The kids spend tons of time exploring nature. By learning from the teachers and talking with them about what our kids need, we became better parents.

Suzanne, the director is a warm and caring leader and these characteristics are passed down to the staff. My son has always felt at home at this center. When we moved and he started Kindergarten, instead of attending summer camp at his new school and closer to our new home, he asked to go back to Kindercare in Hanover for summer camp. The summer program was filled with activities and numerous field trips to keep the children engaged and ensure a fun filled summer! Although the center did experience a period of staff transition, the director worked diligently to ensure minimal impact to the children. This was not something the staff/director could control so it would be unfair to hold them responsible. The leadership at the center will listen to any concerns shared, and will get to know your child and ensure their needs are met. They supported us in throwing two amazing birthday parties for our son at the center. Years later he still speaks fondly about these great experiences. He was also able to make great friends while he attended Kindercare in Hanover. Due to a military move, we had to leave the center, but were very sad to leave. From the very beginning, Miss Ana assured me that they would help guide my daughter through the transition and she absolutely delivered on that promise. My daughter attended Watchful Eye for almost three years, and I could not have imagined a better outcome. Not only is her speech now above average, but she also writes her letters, spells, and sounds out words at the age of three. People are always amazed by her abilities. There is truly something special about this daycare. We recently had to move due to my husband's job opportunity, and while touring new daycares, I've realized just how exceptional Watchful Eye is. I never thought I'd appreciate something as simple as the children taking their shoes off at school, but it made the environment so much cleaner and calmer. The new school's classrooms are nowhere near as clean. There is mud everywhere. I also miss the worksheets the 3's classroom used. My daughter looked forward to practicing her letters every day. The science experiments were her absolute favorite. I am so impressed by Watchful Eye's curriculum, especially now that I've seen what other schools offer. What stands out the most is the staff. My daughter has had some truly special teachers who changed her life in ways I will forever be grateful for. It is clear that Watchful Eye is very intentional and selective about who they hire, and it shows in the love, patience, and professionalism every teacher brings to the classroom. We miss this school dearly. My daughter still asks if we can call just to say hi, that's how deeply connected she feels to the people there.
