The Balcony West is one of the most magical places to host a private event in Denver…read more Most of what makes it magical is easy to see. From the historic 1890 Italian Renaissance Revival architecture, to the enormous Tiffany windows on the first floor, to the marble, brass and mosaic accents throughout the building this is a one-of-a-kind building. And when you enter the 9th floor Balcony and take in surrounding architecture and the spectacular western panorama views including Denver's skyline and mountain it transforms one into a different place and time. What is more difficult to see at first are the underlying efforts of those involved in the venue to deliver on the Balcony's promise. But it is seen most importantly in the implementation and execution of the event itself. Our family hosted the first two formal events on the Balcony. In total more than 120 guests participated in events there. Every single person, local and out-of-town visitors were awed by the location. We were equally awed by the people behind the venue and in the desire and willingness to make everything work well. I would not hesitate for a second in recommending the Balcony West from the most informal to the most formal of events.

The most visible component is their Schoolyard Beer Garden which occupies the center of the main floor inside the building plus an expansive outdoor seating area in front of the building. Another key component is the Schoolyard Café in the southeast corner of the building. This is an expansive coffee shop with coffee, pastries, salads, and sandwiches during the day plus wine and small plates at night. There's more seating for restaurant patrons in the first floor hallway. The new Bonsai Bar occupies the boiler room space, down a staircase from the beer hall. Office space is available on the third floor with some office/retail on the second floor. The old auditorium is now a flexible ballroom/meeting room. The second floor hallway offers more restaurant seating plus a second bar. The building looks great, the restaurants are booming, and it looks like much of the other office/retail space has been leased. It is great to see such a gorgeous, historic building being reused in such a thoughtful way.

It has a shabby chic vibe, heavy on the "chic" as there are beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceilings and gorgeous gauzey drapes. It's counterbalanced with the bit of (still upscale) "shabby" aspects in the reclaimed wooden pieces, exposed bits of brick in the walls, concrete floor, and wooden barn doors. Moss offers an entire room full of jars, candle holders, decor pieces, and other accent items you can use for your event, so definitely do not sleep on that aspect of their venue, too. We visited Moss Denver in Autumn so the greenery that you'll see on the grounds was not yet alive and blooming, so consider that if you visit during the winter or fall months. I'm sure the blooms of Summer or Spring add a whole other aspect of the natural ambiance! Aside from the moss, greenery, and chandeleirs, etc - Moss is mostly an empty slate. So you can bring your own design and personal touches to your event pretty easily, which is so great in a venue when you don't want a cookie cutter look. So I recommend definitely at least checking out Moss Denver as an option for weddings, corporate events, reunions, or any other event that needs a nice, pretty malleable space that will work for most any event needs.

I suggested to the patron they should ask for money back due to the poor offerings and service. Still irritated 2 days later and can't say to avoid this place enough.
