Ugghhhh--do not patronize this business! I bought a charger here while on vacation but was hundreds of miles away when I realized it didn't work . After I returned home, I called the owner & offered to ship it back to him for a refund. He refused, & didn't care that I then said I would dispute it with my credit card company. Chase refused to allow me to dispute it, saying I should have returned the device immediately since I bought it in person. The owner probably knew this when he was indifferent to knowing I was going to dispute the charge. I agree with previous poster who said he preys on tourists. He sells junk that doesn't work! He takes advantage of tourists. I knew what I need and I saw the product on his wall. He told me that was for Nikon. He wouldn't let me see product. He try to sale me $85.00 shutter release. I had to buy it. When I got back I looked in my camera bag, and I found a simple shutter release. I took the one he sold me back to get a refund. He accused me of tearing the box. So he only gave me 50% back. I did I say he opened the box at the store, so I could check it out. His hands shake terrible and he tore to box when he tried to open it. Don't buy anything from this store. He rips off tourist Why he knows that he is the only photo store in town. I am sorry that the lowest I can go is 1. I spent a week in Moab off roading and needed an SD card for my camera. The only place I found was Arches Electronics. I signed my credit card receipt approving the amount of 19.72 which is a little higher than normal but it was convenient. Once I was back home, I looked at my credit card statement and found that the man added an extra 100.00 to the final price!! He charged my credit card $119.72. Everyone who bought something from this man, double check your statements!! read more

Went in to the store to try to buy a tripod. He has two tripods in the store. A Neewer N55 (Carbon) selling it at $269 retail for $119 and a Zoomie Q666 selling for 150 retails for $63 dollars. The store is ridiculously over priced when I asked him if he could lower it he said he would give me 20 dollars off. No thanks. Not worth it. read more

We stopped by to try and fix a battery issue with our Canon. The man at the counter was very kind and helped us troubleshoot. It was not something self-serviceable after all, but we really appreciated his time to help us narrow down the problem. The store itself has a nice and simple selection of camera accessories - as a photographer, it's great to have some options like this in town when you're in a bind. Some of the other comments here seem really aggressive... it's a single, small specialty shop in the middle of the desert, it's not Amazon with thousands of retailers. People who posted negative comments on this place need to quit whining. Take responsibility. I screwed up. I was on the road and messed up my battery. i went to two Best Buy stores in Albuquerque after the battery on my brand new Cannon stopped working on the road from Palo Duro canyon in Texas. Best Buy said the camera was fairly new and batteries were not common yet. I had pretty much resigned myself to IPhone pics for the rest of the trip. Bummer- Arches and Canyon National Park by IPhone.... I decided the millennials at Best Buy might not have it right. When I was about 2 hours out of Moab I found this store through Yelp. I looked at the wide disparity in comments. I figured I was in for a beating but called and found out: 1) They had the battery 2) They had a car charger for it too Both of these items were beyond the capability of not only the Best Buy I bought the camera at in San Antonio, but also the two in ABQ. 3) They were open till 9pm 4) They opened at 830 to 9am. We arrived at 815 pm. The price was maybe $10 more than Best Buy (who told me to order it online) not real helpful and Amazon prime doesn't deliver where they don't have electricity. Lol! I bought a 1 battery and it worked- (meaning it wasn't the camera, just the battery) My wife and I went back the next morning and bought another battery and a car charger. I paid $2500(+) for this vacation. I am not going to complain about $10 or even $40 to the guy that saved my trip from IPhone.to Cannon. The hotel bill mark up for one night in Moab was a lot more than that. This guy obviously has inventory. He makes a living out of saving people's vacation pictures who either broke or lost, critical camera parts. I doubt he gets a lot of business from locals who can use Amazon. It's like complaining to the tow truck driver that picks you up in the middle of nowhere. read more

I want to review this place better, I really like the guys there, they remind me of an old comedy team that was never really funny, just fun to be around. When you walk in, you may get a bit of a contact high. Somebody must have a medical condition :) I went there for a cable to download from my camera to the computer, somehow I lost/forgot mine before we arrived. The price was outrageous 19,95. I could have gotten one on Amazon for far less...but then this place wouldn't be here and I wouldn't have had a cable. Sometimes we need to support the locals and their outrageous prices, so that when we really need something and we are out in the field, there is a resource to go to. I also bought a gorilla pod, at an outrageous premium (2X what BH photo gets.) But you know what, I have wanted a Joby for years and never pulled the string. Here I was with a real use for it and knowingly gave them the bump to make sure they are there the next time I need something in Moab. Speaking of the Gorilla Pod, It was not quite enough for my camera. I turned my back and the wind blew the whole thing off the ledge I was shooting from, camera and all, It went over the cliff at Canyonlands. Landed on a ledge below and the guy next to me insisted it was in pieces. We retrieved the camera. The lens hood was shattered, the pod apparently collapsed around the camera and lens and basically protected them. No damage outside a small scrap on the body...AMAZING! Returned to Arches Electronics, got another whiff, and lo and behold they had my hood. Not a common one either. They also had a really cool variable ND filter. Just because they had the hood, I also bought the filter. I knew it was overpriced, I just didn't realize they also were somewhat doing a bait and switch. A Hoyo variable runs about $180. This Bower was $130. We even discussed the local premium and they said it was likely cheaper elsewhere. I thought what the heck, they had my hood and I like to support homegrown stores. Sadly, the Bower is not a very good filter, at the upper end, it is useless. They advertise 8 stops, but it becomes patchy at the top end, likely good for 4-5 stops, not 8. The filter was lost at Antelope Canyon, so I got online to buy another, I do like the variable ND and decided to shop for another. The Bower version is only $24,95 at Amazon :( The moral of this whole story, caution is needed, buyer beware. We need stores like this, but we don't need to be careless or over generous to keep them. I wish they had a consistent 25-30% premium, that is completely understandable. But 5X? Come on guys, I thought you would be more mellow. read more

I was looking for a nice camera to take night pictures with. I was very specific with the guy working and he assured me that his most expensive camera was the right one for me. I bought it and went out that night only to be disappointed. The camera wouldn't let me take night pictures because it wasn't made for that! I got online and discovered that he charged me $200 more than everyone else charges for the same camera and it didn't even do what I needed it to. He wasn't very happy when I brought it back and didn't refund all of my money either. read more

This place will shamelessly rip you off and lie about it too. We needed a CB radio, and pickings were slim. This shop had one of the standard Midland handhelds. Decent radio, nothing fancy. He told us that the price of the unit had been going up a lot lately. He was charging $150. It's a $100 product at Walmart or any other retailer. Because of Easter Jeep Safari, CBs weren't easy to find, but this isn't a swap meet. It's a retail store selling a product sourced from a distributor. The monumental markup is nothing short of sleazy. I'd never patronize this place again in my life, and I'd be very happy to see it go out of business before next year. read more

Glass half full is that I'll look at this as a life lesson to always check reviews first. I had a rock go through the radiator of my motorcycle this AM, so was sitting at a coffee shop and reading a book while I wait for the local shop to fix it. I noticed that my iPhone battery was getting low and I forgot my charger at my airbnb. I saw this store so I walked in to get a replacement. I explain I need an iPhone cable & wall adapter. He takes out a box that has 2 cables and the wall adapter. He rings up the price, $50. At that point I should have left to see what else I could find elsewhere.... but I paid thinking at least I have 2 cables. I reach for the box after he hands me my credit card back showing a small sticker that says something like "per cable". No refunds ofc. This guy is just here to rip tourists off when apparently there is an electronics store down the street that has great reviews. Don't give this guy any business, go elsewhere. read more

Thought I needed a new battery for my camera and went into Arches Electronics. The owner told me it wasnt' the battery but the way I charged up the battery (I didn't use the camera charger; used a cell phone charger)He did a quick charge on the battery which worked. I purchased the camera charger (needed it since I'm from out of state)and was charged $65.15. Unfortunately I didn't do a price comparison immediately with Amazon. I did so when I got back to my RV and saw that the exact same item (scanned the package bar code) was $13.95 with Prime shipping! I get that things are going to cost more in Moab, but $50 more?!! Take the reviews seriously. The prices are higher than they should be, but it's Moab and your choices are very limited, so you deal with the markup (even if it is a little crappy to mark it up that much). The bigger issue is the "no return" policy. I bought an expensive gps unit and just simply wasn't that impressed with it when I tried it outside. I checked the receipt for any "no return" type language and there was none. So, I made sure I packaged it back up nicely and that it looked new and took it back. When I tried to return it, the guy says, "I can't take it back". When I asked why not, he said he doesn't take returns. I asked him why he didn't mention that when I was buying it and he pointed to a small piece of paper on the opposite side of the store from where he showed me the unit that said " no returns" in small letters. When I asked him why he simply didn't just say, "by the way I don't take returns" he said, "I can't take returns, its not like I'm Amazon. Thats all the law requires me to do" while pointing at the small price of paper on the wall. I told him I thought that was a very shady way of doing business and he said he would take it back, but he was going to charge a 20% restocking fee for a unit that was already repacked and ready to be put on display. It cost me over $100 to figure out that what he sold me wasn't really worth the Moab markup. I go out of my way to support local and small businesses. Its experiences like this one that push me to search on Amazon first. read more

I am so extremly angry. I went there to buy a charger for my camera, he tried to sell me one for $65 (at amazon they are about $15). Instead I asked him for a cable, as I saw that it would fit into my camera. I paid $21 and it doesnt work at all. Now I'm not sure if that means the cable is not ok or if he sold me the cable knowing that it wouldnt charge my camera. Either way I feel like he stole my money and ruined my vacation. This small shop was a life saver for me. I needed a couple of camera parts for my Nikon. They had them in stock. Service was fast. The two men working there (the owner and one employee) were super. I left my shutter remote at home. My bad I know. I really wanted to like this place but... I asked for a simple remote for my camera and he grabbed a $11.99 on BH web site remote and asked for $59.00. I am ok with paying more due to the area but that is a joke. I truly hope for the sake of the locals he gives better breaks. Check online first. BH is fair and is used all over. If he asks for a few dollars higher it's worth it but four times more than it's worth. Stay away!!! Lower your prices. read more

My experience was EXCELLENT - this store was a lifesaver! I had forgotten to bring my battery charger for my camera and only had a long lens with me - potentially ruining my whole picture taking plans and making it difficult to photograph the large panorama landscapes needed for this area. The owner was VERY nice and kindly helped me with the battery charger and options for a wide angle telephoto. Selection and prices were reasonable - NO overcharging whatsoever (for the items I purchased and looked at while browsing the store). I definitely recommend this store and would gladly shop there again. read more

I was so impressed to find a good variety of electronics/camera supplies when I walked in. The good stops there. I was not only given a five year old accessory passed off as the current model I needed, some practiced sleight of hand switched a brand new package for an old, open-box one. Seriously, a beat up box, torn interior packaging, and an old accessory. Returned it. Be careful if you need something here while traveling. read more

In 2011 I was in Moab and my camera broke (Canon 7D) and I had to get a replacement. I'd heard mixed things about Arches Electronics including fleecing tourists but I went anyway. I bought a Canon 7D there and paid more than Best Buy but it saved me from having to go to Grand Junction or Salt Lake City. It was around the time of the Japanese Earthquake so they were a little hard to come by at that time. Fast forward to July 2013. I'd been shooting in the desert and the camera sensor was a bit spotty. It is tough to find a camera place that can clean sensors unless you are by a large city and even then sometimes there is no place to get it done. Even in smaller cities like Bozeman, Montana the camera shops generally charge between $40 and $60 to clean the sensor. I went into Arches Electronics and said I'd like to get the sensor cleaned on a full frame camera. The first question the guy there asked me was weather or not I lived in Moab! What they heck does that have to do with anything? I said no and then he blurted out that it would be $115.00 to clean the sensor. That's two to three times what other places charge. I guess when possible, maybe this place does try to fleece tourists passing through or there on vacation. Why would he ask if I lived in Moab before quoting a price? Apparently so he could jack it up to "fleece the tourist"! I needed to buy a new tripod and head to replace the one I have that has seen its better days. After the inquiry about cleaning the sensor I just turned around and walked out of the store and I'll never go back to Arches Electronics, EVER. The first time I was there I paid more for the camera than normal but it wasn't too bad. This time around it was ridiculous. Around mid July, not much is going on in Moab so I doubt he had some big backlog of sensor cleaning business to take car of. If you need some sort of electronics when in Moab, go to Radio Shack. If Radio Shack doesn't have it order it from Amazon an have it shipped to your hotel! When possible I prefer to support small businesses. When they try to take advantage of me and are rather unfriendly I don't go back. read more

I am visiting Moab and left my battery charger for my camera at home. I checked to see if Arches Electronics would let me charge my battery in the store for a few hours and they said it would cost $10. I have worked for a camera store in Salt Lake City, and charging batteries for travelers was a service we gladly offered for free all of the time. I understand it is my fault I forgot my charger, but I am disappointed in the customer service of Arches Electronics. read more

I needed a 82mm polarizing filter for a nEw lens I had forgotten to fully equip before my trip out west and hoped this store would have one. He did--for TEN TIMES what the exact same filter was priced on Amazon. And I get it, local businesses HAVE to charge more, and to a degree I'm willing to pay more, but not this much more. read more

Being the only photography store in town I would have thought there would be a great selection. To my surprise there definitely wasn't. Pretty standard lens if not cheap ones. I was looking for something wide angle at f2.5. When I asked the guy who seamed to be the owner, he say they were too expensive and no one wanted to buy them. Leaving definitely a little disappointed at such a little selection. Being an electronic store and not just a photography store I guess that's what I can except. So they next day I realized I forgot to pack my battery charger plus additional battery. Thinking I can hopefully pick one up at that electronic store. So before we get there we look up how much my charger for a nikon d 7000 would be and it was $45 on b&h. So we go back to the store and ask about the charger. The guy quotes us $70! Thinking whoa that quite a bit more! So I try some friendly negotiating asking if he'll take $55 for something I can find at b&h for $45. He replied b&h is out if stock and being the only camera store around I can charge whatever I want. I immediately turned around and walked out the door. Unfortunately we did not look at the reviews before we went in. We still don't know if we could have bought the charger for our camera battery anywhere else in Moab. It was convenient that the store had it in stock. It is not an original Canon charger, but a Bower and it comes with an additional cable to charge in the car, which is nice. We were charged 60 dollars, which did seem a bit overpriced right away. We have now seen the exact same item in the internet for 9.99 to 19.99, so clearly anything above 30-40 dollars can only be called overcharging. read more

I was in the Moab area with my family on vacation and decided to purchase a point-and-shoot camera for use on the trip because my smart phone was not serving well as a camera. I stopped into this shop for help. The two gentlemen were helpful, though one was a bit standoffish, and I like the camera I bought. My concern is that I was charged $499 for a camera that retails for $399 almost everywhere else. I understand that there's an appropriate mark-up, and I don't mind paying a little more for the convenience of being able to buy the camera where and when I wanted to, but I think $100 over the competition is excessive. They also made no mention of the fact that the camera does not include an instruction manual (you have to print it from the manufacturer's website) or that I would need to separately purchase a data transfer cable so that the digital images could be moved to my computer. I think you'd do better, obviously, in Denver, Grand Junction, or Salt Lake City, but even considering that they are apparently the only game in town in Moab I think a bit better service and a more reasonable price is not too much to ask. read more

I was looking for a particular cord that was forgotten at home. I called and they didn't have it. I went to a different store that had a potential option but would need a second cord to make it work. Before I bought the 1st cord, I called to make sure the 2nd cord was available. They stated at Arches Electronics that they had the 2nd cord, so I bought the 1st cord. I went to the actual store. They didn't have what I needed , and to top it off, the guy tried to argue with me that they did have what I asked for. It was very evident that the cord that he was trying to sell me would not work. He even had the gall to call me a liar when it came to what I asked for over the phone. I then had to go back to the other store to see if they would return what I bought only because Arches Electronics said they'd have the cable I needed. Extremely frustrating!
