I asked Kathy, who is the owner and operator, some questions about scheduling a visit. Basically my concern was that during the warmer parts of the summer, she does not allow single men on her property, because the majority of the available days are reserved for couples. I am a single bachelor and have been for nearly all my life. I am also straight. I am also a senior citizen. Apparently it is assumed that single men are a risk of some sort. I'm 68 - what possible risk do I pose that a coupled man, unhappy with his partner, would more likely pose? I told her it felt like discrimination, and did not seem fair. I guess she gets around any illegal discrimination laws by being a membership club. Kathy would not work with me on the issue. She passive-aggressively refused to respond with any discussion. WARNING: Adult-oriented review to follow. Arcadia Resort is a beautiful four-acre nudist paradise. Owned by Kathy and run with help from a friend or two, romance is in the air and bare-skin comfort is the name of the game. No children are allowed. The entire property is surrounded by an 8-ft privacy fence with an electric gate at the entrance for security and privacy of the neighbors and the resort guests alike. Lodgings are simple and modest but Kathy has made an effort to make them comfortable and romantic. We stayed in what is probably the most convenient and largest lodging space, with a king-size sleigh bed upstairs and a living room, eat-in kitchen, and full-bath, and sliding glass doors to the main lounging lawn. The grounds include plenty of carefully mown grass with lushly planted gardens and beautiful nude statuary. Fountains grace several strategic areas. A sports court, horseshoe pits, a small trout pond, a hammock, and a ping-pong table round out the non-water recreation. The resort also has a smallish above-ground pool (with a solar heating system so it's not icy) and a very large 10-person hot tub that's in a communal room with a stereo and a karaoke set up. There's a shared picnic area and a gas grill that's open for everyone's use, a firepit with wood, and plenty of lounge chairs and cushions. In addition to the five or six lodging units, Kathy allows a few RVers and tent campers, and a limited amount of day use. It's a private resort and you will pay an annual membership fee if you'd like to come back after your initial visit... that lets them set their own rules and not have too much trouble with weirdoes. Though it depends on your definition of weirdo! We were roundly (but accidentally) condemned as "Seattle liberals" during a hot tub session where people were discussing their support for the war in Iraq and who in their family or friends were currently over there. I'm glad that I wasn't right there to hear that because I would have left the hot tub! On the whole, though, people are friendly, just more conservative and slightly older than I expected; I figured most people would be like us, mid 30s to mid-40s, and I would say that the average was 10 years older than that. We plan on going back with a group of "Seattle liberals" so we'll be a bit more comfortable politically -- message me if you want to try it out. There are theme weekends, and last weekend, was the monthly (2nd weekend) Sex on the Grass theme, where couples are allowed to do whatever they like, whenever they like, I suppose within reason (or at least, by consent of all parties!) It was wonderful to make love on a blanket outside under the stars (and it was truly fantastic that it was warm enough for me to want to!) and the next day, various couples including us tucked themselves away into secluded corners or did what they liked right out on the lawn. It was great. It's not for the timid, though; voyeurs and exhibitionists will have an especially good time. If this sort of thing is NOT for you, the other three weekends are no-sex-in-shared-spaces so you won't be offended. Most but not all couples seemed to be straight and there were more piercings than you'd expect of a crowd that age. We will definitely go back to see if the conservatism was a fluke for that one weekend. It was great to be free of kids, clothes, and major responsibilities. This was our first time at a clothing optional resort and I'm now a fan! The review from Julia (see below) was spot on. We went on a non-couples weekend which meant that there was not sex in public places but the friendly, warm and inviting atmosphere was still there. There was no pressure or awkward moments, it was more fun than we've had at other "normal" resorts. There are only a few things I'd like to add to Julia's review: There is now a heated pool in addition to the 24 hot tub and Saturday nights are pot luck night which is truly a lot of fun which was followed by a bon fire and karaoke. Arcadia is an absolute treasure! It offers a premium experience unlike any other clothing optional resorts in the Northwest. I have been going for four years now, and will keep going for as long as the gate is open. It took me a bit of pondering to figure out what makes it special, and it dawned on my that everyone there is on vacation. Most clothing-optional resorts are run by volunteers who have campers or cabins on the property. This means that most of the folks at the resorts have work to do. They have to get in volunteer hours, tend to their campers, fix leaks, go to meetings, and all of the other work required of a member-owned club. But Arcadia is different. No one lives there. And it is a for-profit run by one woman. So no one has work to do! No volunteer shifts. No meetings. No leaking cabins. Everyone is just there to have fun. And Arcadia creates an environment where everyone feels safe and free to have whatever fun appeals to them. The management allows adults to have fun, as long as they remember that they are adults and act accordingly. Arcadia is pricy compared to the member-owned non-profit clubs, but then again, it provides a premium experience. The lodgings are charming in their own way, and are all much larger with more amenities than any other nudist club offers to guests. The grounds aren't huge, but more than enough to explore with complete privacy from the world beyond the fence. I see some complaints here that the couples weekends cost more than the nudist weekends. I can't see the problem here. Couples weekends are an especially premium experience that allows guests to have complete freedom. This should come with a premium price! There is no where else in the Northwest where a couple can have a weekend like the ones Arcardia offers. And allowing guests that extra freedom comes at an increased liability risk for the management. So yes, a price premium makes sense. Finally, the higher price ensures that those who come are serious about being positive players in the romantic stage that is created. The higher price helps deter looky loos or people who are just looking for a cheap thrill. There is nothing I enjoy more on a summer day is to sit by the Arcadia pool and let the sunshine take me away. There is a fantasy land behind those unassuming gates. Arcadia is an amazing place to relax and rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit. I have never felt more comfortable anywhere. Kathy the owner is wonderful and makes even those that have never experienced this type of place comfortable. There is tons of privacy to spend time with your significant other as well as to not feel like anyone is going to peep over the 8 ft fence. The lodgings are set up to make the whole experience enticing. If you like to sunbathe in the nude this is a place close to home where you can camp, or rent lodgings and be totally comfortable. I felt I wanted a balance of experiences with this resort before writing this so we a (mid 50'sCouple) have been 3 times camped each time and each has gained points for the both of us, I had barely unloaded the tent when I tried to surprise my Wife by stripping down but she had strip down her self and we had a great laugh at our mutual surprise bravery. We like the lack of children in comparison to family oriented resorts or clubs. Kathy and her crew create a comfort level unsurpassed and keep a grounds, pool and hot tub to be proud of. If your unsure about being around others while naked it's really up to you plenty of space to enjoy together or join in around the fire, pool, hot tub, potlucks, theme parties or singing Karaoke in the buff or semi'buff. At no time did we feel anyone was out to approach us in any "odd" way pretty normal folks of all sizes and types just a bit more outgoing and less hung up or up tight. [ Caution: enjoying nudity outdoors can lead to... well...enjoying nudity outdoors! ] We have been for both a vanilla-( nudity only ) and Couples weekends ( lusty actions OK ) and I must say the freeing of Love on the lawn in the Sun can't be beat ! This was our first time at a clothing optional resort, so I was a little nervous. That disappeared immediately after we arrived. The resort is beautiful, very nicely maintained. Kathy showed us our cabin, and explained the different features of the resort and what to expect. We were allowed to bring our dogs and that was important for us. The people we met were all very friendly, welcoming and of all age groups. For the first time in my life I sang Karaoke! Great potluck, wonderful hot tub, I can't say enough about this place! It was truly the best vacation we ever had, very relaxing. We will definitely return. read more

We had a great time trying something new. Low pressure and very safe atmosphere made things very comfortable for us as first time guests. Friendly people but you never feel rude just reading a book. We tent camped which made the cost comperable to staying in a hotel. Weather was great but I was glad for my thick bath robe in the morning. Cell service was spotty (I considered this a good thing). Wifi was available and free. We will visit again. Plan your trip early, the anticipation is part of the fun! read more

The grounds are nicely landscaped and the pool is well maintained. The owner is friendly. There is only one restroom for everyone camping and I always had to wait to use it. My main complaint is that it is way overpriced. The tab for one night of camping was $130! Plus she charged us extra for using a credit card and even more because her card reader wasn't working. This place costs 2 to 5 times as much as camping at one of the other clothing optional resorts in the Puget Sound area and there is nothing special enough to justify the premium price. read more

If you have been thinking about a clothing optional experience, but are a bit hesitant because, well, you have never done this before, my wife and I were in the same place you are seven years ago. We had discussed this and decided it was something we would try " just once" to see what we thought, and with that the next question was where we could go and get naked without getting arrested...The internet would have the answer to that, and here is where we got really lucky. We found Arcadia listed and chose it because it was located in Shelton and that wasn't too far a drive for us. With great trepidation I made that first call and the owner Kathy answered the phone. She was warm and friendly and said to call her once we got close to Arcadia as she knew we were "Newbies" and wanted to make sure she welcomed us. When we arrived and were buzzed in my wife and I both exclaimed, "OMG! There's naked people by the pool", it was a shock even though we thought we were prepared for it. Kathy met us, as promised, and gave us the rundown and tour of the beautiful place. She also made a point to introduce us to the other folks so we would not feel so awkward. One thing Kathy did stress was for us to take our time, to do only what we were comfortable with because she wanted us to have a relaxing, enjoyable experience...did we? Like I said that was seven years ago and it's a place my wife and I always look forward to visiting. It's a beautiful setting, with friendly and diverse people, and it has become our special place, where we relax, recharge, and reconnect with one another. I recommend the Arcadia Experience to anyone who has ever wondered, what's it like to lay back in the sun nude, sip a glass of wine ( beer in my case), and relax in a beautiful place. read more
