Esmeralda as director of caregivers is the right person for the job. She is kind, thorough and thoughtful. Patty, director of dining services is a real asset and goes above and beyond for 'her' residents. She tries to work with those with special dietary needs with what she has available making herself accessible to all. We love Patty and the food she provides. The first thing family mentioned when visiting was the atmosphere, how clean and friendly Rancho Vista is for seniors.

I don't know if this is a typical example and I realize seniors eat smaller portions but, nutrition wise, I don't believe this is enough protein, even for a senior. I just did a search and AI says adults need 46-56 grams a day with seniors and athletes needing higher amounts.i'm guessing I received 7 grams in yesterdays meal. My parent was a resident for a very short time. I moved them out due to lack of compassion,…read moretraining, and staffing. The staff is NOT trained to handle different dementia behaviors. I witnessed staff, on several occasions, ignoring residents when they became combative and difficult. Hearing them tell one another, "I am not handling them". My parent was accused of aggressive/abusive behaviors. Sending them to the ER, rather than deescalating the situation. Staff expected my demented parent to inform them when they were becoming agitated or overwhelmed to provide them with their prescribed "as needed" medication. Staffs lack medical training/guidance Director Caroline S. would call demanding my parent be removed out of the facility, despite physician advising against this. Our provider informed the director, on more than one occasion, any move would be detrimental to their health. Director does not appear to have medical knowledge, or is just not familiar with physician orders. Medications were not administered as directed. The facility is not staffed appropriately with the amount of residents. Many residents were alone with no staff around. I witnessed staff sitting around and speaking about other residents. Highly unprofessional and unethical. Rooms were cleaned daily. There was leftover food in my parents room from the night before. Bugs flying around in and around the room. Despite of personal items being labeled, my parents clothes, personal possessions, walker and cane would end up in other residents rooms. The facility made a strong impression that my parent would be well taken care of. Safe and well cared for. The facility made it impossible and difficult for my parent to adjust. This is supposed to be a memory care facility. Staff is supposed to be trained to handle ALL levels of dementia. They don't! Had I known this, I would have never placed my parent in this facility. I do not recommend this facility with your loved one.

Our mom was at Laguna Estates from Jan 2021 through August 2024. She was 92 years old, when she…read moremoved into the assisted living (mid COVID) area where we were told she would have assistance with basically everything on the list and then it was personalized, with medication, meal reminders, dressing and hygiene, activit reminders and just all scheduled things. But we quickly noticed that they talked big for the actual help they provided If you didn't remember things. In June 2021, just 6 months later, they insisted she move to their "all inclusive" Memory Care area for 24 hour eyes on her. That was a really good fit because they only had a few residents. Mom could get around with a walker but needed basic assistance with day and night care. She could feed herself, use the restroom, make her bed, she participated in the daily crafts and activities, she followed the staff around and mom figured out that the 3 "exit doors" ((in the secure 24 hour memory care)) had signs on them that said "STOP PUSH TO OPEN" so she said all she was doing was following the instructions and she was looking for her husband... pretty typical dementia behavior. They told us she was an EXIT SEEKER and we said where is the professional staff to redirect her...? When she was moved to the 24 hour memory care we understood that they would adjust staffing as needed with changes in behavior or care when needed because the turnover of residents fluctuate... So after 3 1/2 years in the memory care building at 96 years old in her now familiar home -they evicted her. Claiming they couldn't accommodate her care needs. But that was a cop out. I say this because in addition to paying her current room rental of close to 10,000 per month for her care, they insisted that because she was an EXIT SEEKER ((and they were UNDER STAFFED)) that WE would have to hire an outside personal 24 hour care nurse to stay with her, in her room, so basically we were paying for the Laguna Estates staff AND a 24 hour nurse too. That was their excuse to evict her, but we think the real reason was that when she originally moved into the room in 2021 that the room that was available was originally set up as a "shared" room. We think they just wanted that room space for 2 residents rental for more $$$. We feel that they should have at least offered that she share a room instead of evicting her and claiming that they couldn't care for her needs. During her stay at LE the Executive Director changed to the 4th different one. They were cutting staff and splitting shifts and leaving wheelchair dependent disabled folks alone for hours at a time in the tv room, in their rooms or wherever. With this eviction they really placed our fragile mom in a stressful situation. Unfortunately the move was very difficult and too stressful for her to rally with and she passed away about 6 weeks after they evicted her ~16 days before her 97th birthday. RIP our sweet mom. We love you

He receiving great attention and support from the staff. The director Jennifer is very "hands on" even helping her staff with dinning duties. I have been in many similar situations as a worker, and also had my father in a place in San Diego. This place is very clean, and no smell. A lot of these facilities have a bad smell. The whole staff is very professional, friendly, and helpful. The food is very good. Plenty of activities per Destiny!!! Good job overall

The staff genuinely deeply care about the residence go above and beyond to take care of the seniors, get to know them on an individual basis, and have them feel safe. Any place that involves people, and a community, will have some issues at times, it's human nature, however I know that these people really are concerned with making things as right as possible for as many of the residents as they can. My Mother-in-law passed in March, right as the pandemic was starting. In her final week all the staff made sure the family could take care of her and still stay safe. Since then, my Father-in-law hasn't been able to come out and be with us, and we haven't been able to have a proper memorial. However, we feel he is in such a safe place with people who care about his emotions and overall well-being. Most impactful for our whole family, since we live in another state, the Director went above and beyond and offered to pick up my Mother-in-laws urn/ashes from the mortuary and she delivered them to my Father-in-Law. Her kindness and care touched us all beyond words. Thank you to all of the staff at Brookdale San Marcos for your care, and for keeping our family members safe especially in this crazy time!

I used to be an outside healthcare provider there and personally witnessed verbal abuse towards residents by caregiver Rosa while inside the elevator, one of my clients also reported to me that caregiver Dom was taking beverages and food from her personal refrigerator inside her apartment without permission. I also need to point out that they've been operating without a clinical licensed nurse for a few months now, which leads me to believe that the RCC is doing medical assessments which is in violation of Title 22. I would never recommend this community to anyone, and this is one of the worst places I've ever visited.

That they are extremely understaffed. That there has even come a time when 1 caregiver had to work a whole floor themselves during the morning and evening shift. So therefore how is one person giving showers, feeding them , changing them and caring for them. I am being told my mom is sometimes not fed because they forget to feed her. They use the supplies that I buy for her like combs, socks and shirts and use them for other residents. They use my mom's wipes and briefs for other residents. That the staff does not use hoyer as they should be and sometimes one caregiver is transferring my mom who is not that skinny or lightweight onto the wheel chair and back for meals. I didn't think much because I barely am able to visit with my work schedule and so a I was told this by caregivers Mike the director is apparently cheap and does not provide enough supplies that even caregivers have to go without wipes or gloves. I will be calling the state licensing and have them come in the specific days and times the caregivers have explained to me so that they could see what's really going on.

The place is clean and there seems to be a lot of activities available. I've eaten at their dining hall a few times, and it's pretty good. Smaller portions. You can always order more food. Note that you (family members) get free food the first week of your relatives' stay. Then you have to buy a food ticked at the front desk. It's not located in a sketchy part of Escondido, but it's also next to a busy street. Staff members seem to know everyone's name by heart.

After moving her to memory care she is thriving and doing so well. Thanks to Austin and Julie and the great care staff we are so happy how well she is doing now. My sister is so happy there and has become a social butterfly with all the fun activities. I highly recommend Westmont Escondido for seniors who have memory loss.
