So.... this is my first Yelp review ever. And I have to say being a foodie, with foodie friends, I've shared my opinions on many places with my friends, but I've never really felt compelled to write a review until today.
So yeah, let's not get too dramatic. This is Arby's. My mom used to buy the curly fries for me as a kid, when we used to take the bus to downtown. And besides a squashed roast beef sandwich, that a coworker bought for me a long time ago, I have never been compelled to visit an Arby's... ever.
Fast forward to today. It stopped off, only because I'd past Westmount Mall by accident, and I didn't feel like making a U Turn. Saw the Arby's. Dropped in.
And as soon as I stepped in, I was instantly impressed. I went at 1pm, so there were still a few people in there. But it was CLEAN. I'm not saying clean like McDonalds. I'm saying like clean like am I the first customer of the day clean.
Then... there was the fountain pop. They had all the Coke products that I wanted, notably Coke Zero (which the Wendy's by my house has stopped carrying) and Cherry Coke! I know everyone's saying that "Yeah, we've had Cherry Coke in Edmonton through Coke Freestyle. Let me tell you, if you've been to the States, it's not the same. NOTHING replaces a full soda fountain hooked up to a tank of syrup. They usually bump up the the C02 and the syrup ratio. That's why everyone loves McDonald's Coke. Anyways. Spoiler alert. The Cherry Coke tastes amazing. And the Peak Ice Teas taste sweeter than the bottles you buy at Superstore.
So approached the counter and saw that they had a Double Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich. I asked if they could custom build a sandwich for me. I know this sounds weird... but I love my sandwiches with Lettuce Tomato and Mayo. But every time I've asked for that at a Smoked Meat House like Dunn's or Schwartz's they look at me weird, but they end up doing it anyways. Arby's... didn't bat an eyelash. They were friendly and asked me what I wanted and it was done and on my tray within a min and a half.
When I unwrapped my sandwich, i was surprised to see that they used marbled rye. It was lightly toasted and buttered. In between that was a mountain of Smoked meat balanced with a good ratio of lettuce and tomatoes. Now this maybe sacrilege to you but what I'm trying to tell you is they know how to make a sandwich, even if it's custom ordered. The smoked meat wasn't the best I've ever had. Obviously there's better places that take a lot more time and care to make smoked meat. But for a fast food joint, this was great. Plus the perfect bread, just made this the best lunch I've had in a while. Throw in the Cherry Coke and the curly fries... I don't think I've been this happy for lunch in a while. This was pricey for a lunch. $14.29. But keep in mind I got a deluxe sandwich and a combo.
So yeah. I had a pretty amazing experience at, of all places, an Arby's. It was so good, I decided to write my first review. Try this place out and let me know what you think! read more
