Absolute gem. Walked into Araz Bakery during a road trip and immediately knew we struck gold. Varuzh, the owner, was in full hustle mode pumping out an order of about 150 Armenian pizzas, and we were lucky enough to grab one. The crust was paper-thin, shatteringly crispy, and topped with juicy, savory minced beef and warm, fragrant spices that hit perfectly without being heavy. The Cheese Borek and Spicy Borek were equally crave-worthy--light, flaky, golden dough wrapped around a creamy, mildly salty white cheese filling that was rich but not overwhelming. Every bite was comforting and dangerously easy to finish. Missed out on the Ajarakan (sold out!), but that just means a guaranteed return. Easy 5 stars. Came here around 12:30, hoping to try several things on the menu that sounded intriguing. Unfortunately, what others have said is true: They sell out of the popular items quickly. So it was a bit disappointing for us, since most of what we wanted to try wasn't available (Spinach Borek, Ajarakan, Mini Khachapuri, and Nazook Gata). I had 2 Lahmajune (aka Lahmacun, Lahmajun), which I really loved. These were delicious, like a super thin pizza crust, topped with chopped beef in a flavorful sauce with spices and bits of veggies (onions, parsley, red peppers, etc). I also had a Spicy Borek, which was good, but I didn't love the filling-to-dough ratio on this one. I tasted the dough more than filling. My husband, lamenting the lack of Spinach Borek that he was looking forward to, had only 2 Maniesh (aka Manakeesh, Manakish, etc.) for lunch (and a Tahini bread for a later dessert). The owner who helped us, heated up our order (since it was all baked earlier and cool by now), but my husband later told me, his were barely warm. He really liked the topping of the Maniesh (Za'atar, which is a blend of several different spices including oregano & thyme). But he found the pita-like bread the Za'atar was spread on too dry, and overwhelmed the Za'atar. He enjoyed the Tahnini bread more, being just a sweet, light dough. Prices were quite reasonable, except the Spicy Borek seemed a bit much, compared to the other items on the menu. (Also, the Ajarakan is double the Spicy Borek, at $13. Maybe it's worth it, though; I can't say, since it wasn't available.) Due to the prices, I'm rounding up my rating to 4*. read more

Every order, every time...a home run! I have taken spinach borag, cheese borag, lahmajoon, mini khachipuri, nazook gata, and more to multiple events and guests are always super thrilled! I love when you give someone a taste of something they've never experienced before- and their senses are heightened! Today I stopped by in the morning, and all the favorites were available. I had called the day before for a special order, and it was ready right on time for pick-up. I just had to share, that with so many options at the potluck today that I went to, the ones I brought from Araz Bakery were among the first to be finished up! And FYI- For the bakery itself, upon entering, the aroma is fantastic, and matches the flavors in the actual items! Been coming regularly and the flavors and freshness are so consistent. Today I also enjoyed a delicious cup of Armenian Coffee as well while visiting. This is where you go to get authentic manaiesh bread made with za'atar seasoning which is vegan; traditional cheese or spicy cheese byoreg made with Aleppo pepper; spinach filled byoreg, also vegan; the zestiest lahmajune (Armenian Pizza) and Adjarski or ajarakan egg boats. Don't let the simple menu fool you. Look up how to serve and eat each of these items online. TheseThese are Armenian breakfast and brunch staples, that you get hot and fresh and wash it down with tahn (buttermilk) also available in jugs. Some menu items are customizable. Be sure to ask. Everything is made to order so if you don't want to wait, call ahead. It is family owned and they are related to Hollywood's famous Sassoon Bakery and Taron bakery which serve up the best lahmajune in LA. We love our lahmujune ( Armenian pizza) and my brother in law found this place and said it was his favorite. From the thin, crispy crust to the spices and meat. We walked in and wanted to order a bunch of different borek, maniesh, and lahmujune. Varujan offered us a tasting of the spinach borek, cheese borek and lahmujune. It was the best we have ever had, brother in law was right! We ordered a ton to go for us and mother in law. Yummmmm! I've never had Armenian pastries before and don't have anything really to compare it to but this has to be one of the best things I've had to date. Everything was fresh. I think my favorite was the lahmajune. So light thin and crispy. It's not a sweet pastry, it's savory but I can down probably 5 of these in one sitting. And it's so cheap! The staff were all so sweet and friendly. Very helpful because like I've mentioned I've never had these type of pastries. They explained everything to me. And on top of that he gave me some free ones to sample! All so good. I didn't even know there was a bakery here. It's definitely a hidden gem . And just opened not that long ago. This is a must try. Quality ingredients one can taste! The lahmajune was super fresh and tasty! The bread portion was thin and crispy. The amount and quality of meat was amazing! The spices were perfect and it was juicy. Kids loved it too! (One of the kids is super picky, but she loved it and asked for more). The cheesbureg and spinach bites were very yummie too! What I really want to highlight is the NAPOLEON cake, oh my gosh, it was extraordinary: light and flaky, super fresh and real butter (which is rare nowadays)! I could not find a Napoleon that is not imported from LA lately (yes some grocery stores have them, but those are more custard than anything else). This Napoleon beats any Napoleon imported from LA! Best service and quality. I came too late on a Saturday to buy Lahmajune, and they were sold out. The owner, Varouj, went above and beyond and took care of my order first thing the next day. Both the lahmajune and the borek were awesome! Make sure to heat them up so they get nice and toasty and melty. I have to say, this is how business should be done. Varouj is a true master of his craft; I noticed how he carefully applied flour to each piece, as I ate a piece of lahmajune while I waited for him to wrap my order for the long journey back to the Bay Area. Araz is an Armenian Bakery, which is something I have never tried before. I'd say there are more savory than sweet options, with generally thinner breads, tasty seasonings, and cheese! The owner was extremely friendly, and full disclosure, gave us several things to try on the house. He definitely has a passion for the foods he makes, and wants to share that love with newbies like us. And yes, we're hooked! Our favorites were the 2 flat, circle breads-- lahmajune (minced meat) and maniesh (vegetables). Both were seasoned well atop a cracker like bread and eaten like a pizza. We tied both the cheese borek and the spicy cheese borek, which are the same but different shape and spicy with chili spices. The spice is mild, but adds great flavor to the cheese. Toasted the following day, it was delicious! Lastly, we had the mini khachapuri, which are like flaky bread puffs with cheese. The lamajune is a thin dough base with a savory spread of ground meat and spices on top - Araz's version features a thinner, crispier crust than I've had before and a really nice bright blend of spices. The ajarakan (also called khachapuri) is an absurdly rich delicious dish of cheese, butter and over easy eggs in a fresh baked bread boat. It's simple and totally delicious. Food is 10/10, A+ Inside, the seating is sparse but everything is spotless and clean including the kitchen. The service was excellent - you don't usually get that kind of attention at a bakery. I finally got to try this bakery after reading all these great reviews for months. I came in after a trip to the dentist (probably not encouraged but so worth it) and got one regular cheese and a spinach cheese borek. So delicious. The owner is so kind and after chatting, threw in a free spicy borek too. Truly great service and this bakery deserves all the love and praise.
