I should've gone to Home Depot. I called ahead to reserve a carpet cleaner and the owner, Don, told me to pick it up at 3. I arrived at 3 and the door was lock but the open sign was on. There was a sign on the door that said to call if you were waiting. So I called the number and there was no answer (I found out later that the owner doesn't answer calls without a local number. I have a Pennsylvania area code). I left for 5 minutes and came back.
This time the door was unlocked but there was no one inside. I called out for someone, wandered around, I even went into the back. After 5 minutes of waiting , the owner finally strolled in the front door saying, "Oh! A customer." He knew I was coming at 3! Before I could tell him what I was there for he started rattling off excuses (getting the mail, walking his puppy, stretching out his legs). Then he goes off on a tangent about his puppy and his wife's dog.
After 10 minutes of him talking about this I finally interrupted him and told him I was in a hurry and called about the carpet cleaner. I saw on his web site that he advertised a cleaner safe for pets. He pulled 2 cleaners off the shelf and told me they were both fine to use. I looked at the label and both said that it causes skin irritation and were poisonous. I pointed this out and he said "Well you don't want to drink it but it's fine for pets and kids." I told him that I have two cats and a dog and I don't want them to get sick if they groom themselves after walking over the wet carpet. After continuously contradicting himself I told him I was just going to go to PetSmart and get a carpet cleaner.
He then went on another tangent about his pets and kids being fine after cleaning the carpets, his family, and more about his dog. I reminded him that I was in a hurry so he checked me out. He quickly explained the machine and had to find all the pieces to the machine (the store was dirty amd a mess, i was surprised he owned a janitorial store). I took it and left before he could talk anymore.
I finally got out of the store an HOUR after the pick up time that HE had set. Next time, I'm just going with a chain store. read more
