I have been to Thailand and the food here tasted very authentic although not quite as spicy as what I've had at Thai restaurants. I was staying at a lake house nearby and wanted something with flavor so I yelped and found this place with good reviews and they were not wrong! I had a Thai friend in college and she introduced me to Thai food so every now and then when I am visiting a new part of the state I look to see what is near. I love how when I called in the order she was very efficient in asking what I desired and didn't make me feel weird when I asked for vegan options. I went with Pad Thai with tofu and mango sticky rice and Thai tea. Upon arriving I was greeted warmly and after waiting for a bit she had my order ready. There is also a mini Asian market in there in case you are running low on jasmine rice. It was hard not to dig in but after arriving to my airbnb I dug in and it was nice and flavorful. My friend and I were in Burnet for the Vanishing River Cruise and arrived the night before. Before we knew it, dinner time was upon us and, seeing the great reviews on Yelp for this restaurant, off we went. Actually, according to the owner, the building was a gas station, and she showed us that where we were sitting was once a large garage door. And yes, there are still working pumps on the property. The exterior of the building says strip mall but the interior is warm and inviting. The decor is a collection of personal items, from Buddhist shrines to plates, cups and saucers along with some interesting wall hangings. We were greeted cordially, given menus and our drink orders taken. The menus are particularly useful as each dish has an accompanying photo and at this restaurant it isn't bait and switch as at so many; here, what you see is what you get. For an appetizer we ordered chicken satay. (Sorry, no photo as we were famished and dove in immediately. Reviewer DS has a great photo, though). The chicken was light and tender, was not overcooked and could stand on its own without any sauce. In this case we had two sauces, one a light vinegar and fish sauce, the other, peanut. Both stood out but the peanut was our favorite. The Thai version is sweeter than the Indonesian gado-gado and more complex. I even spooned some on my entree with excellent results. Speaking of entrees, we both ordered Pad Kee Mao (on the menu as Meow), sometimes called "Drunken Noodles" and it's one of my favorites. As always, she ordered hers mild but hot, hot, hot for me, please. In many restaurants they modify the spicing for American tastes by drastically cutting back on the oyster and fish sauces, but not at Aranya Thai. These flavors are bold, as they should be, giving the dish the flavor I remember from my time in Thailand. The chicken (you can also order it with pork or beef) and vegetables were perfectly cooked and flavorful; the rice noodles, not too tough, not too mushy--just right. And the spicing? We got what we asked for! Family run restaurants such as this deserve our support, especially when the food is a cut above. If you find yourself in the wilds of Burnet, drop by Aranya Thai; you'll be very glad you did! read more

This place is amazing! What a delightful surprise to find excellent Thai food in Burnet. We sat at another restaurant for about 15 minutes and no one bothered to even look our way. We stumbled onto Aranya and were not disappointed. As soon as we opened the door and smelled the aromas, we knew we'd made the right choice. The service was quick and friendly. Don't be discouraged by the reviews that state this is in a gas station -- it's definitely near a gas station, but the interior of the restaurant does not reflect any gas station-ness. It's a small space decked out with Buddhist statues, an altar and other artifacts that were very popular among the smaller diners in our group (had to spend a fair amount of time redirecting the kids), and simple dining tables with a variety of mismatched chairs which added to the charm. The food was quite good. We started with an order of Thai tea and summer rolls (fresh herbs, lettuce and shrimp wrapped in rice paper) served with an addictive peanut sauce. For our entrees we ordered a variety of dishes: Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Panang Curry and one of the daily specials and were impressed with the flavors, freshness and the amount of food for a very reasonable price. None of the dishes were overly spicy -- I noticed there was an entire rack of condiments for kicking it up to your desired notch. You might not expect this kind of place in Burnet, but I'm so glad they're here, and I'll be back next time I'm out this way. read more

This place is legit Thai food. Don't let the exterior fool you. It is next to a filling station, but inside the decor of the restaurant and grocery store is very nice. I had the panang curry with chicken with jasmine rice. It was absolutely delicious. My friend has a very spicy shrimp and veggie dish. It definitely was spicy, so watch for the little hot pepper indicators. She also had the crystal noodle soup which was delicious and not spicy. Delicious, cheap Thai food in Burnet (durn-it), Texas? Why not? I was worried when I saw Kelly's less than enthusiastic review from 2010, but we were headed back to Austin from Marble Falls on Sunday afternoon, and 3 other restaurants we'd wanted to try on the way were closed. Aranya Thai was our last hope to quell the growling tummies before a killer thunderstorm moved in to likely prevent later dining out once we were back at home base. The place (in a small strip center with a gas station at one end and a used book store on the other) looked deserted, but a friendly waitress/manager soon came to welcome us once we were seated. The iced tea was great and the 8 piece Golden Pockets order ($4) was served quickly. I can't remember the last time I had a $4 appetizer, delicious little fried bites of joy stuffed with seasoned ground pork. We cleared the dish immediately. The mister ordered Kaprow Chicken Fried Rice ($9) and I got Pad Ped Beef ($9). I guess besides our friendly server out front, there was one busy guy in the back making our lunch, as the rice came out a good 5 minutes before my plate. No worries, though, as we don't mind sharing and that was some excellent fried rice! The spicy rice dish was packed with a good mix of onions, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, scallions, basil, Thai chili, egg and tender chicken, and it wasn't greasy at all. The Pad Ped was equally enjoyable, if lighter. I was impressed that the beef strips were well tenderized and still had a prominent beefy flavor under the thin red curry broth and crisp veggie mix (bamboo shoots, green beans, and zucchini). We were so impressed, we went ahead & ordered sticky rice with custard for dessert. Oh how I love sticky rice! This one had a light coconut syrup over the top. The companion custard was a sort of unappealing grayish color, but the flavor & texture were just fine. I will totally chow down on some Aranya Thai the next time I'm in town. You should, too. Went here based on the recommendation of the first reveiwer. I got the pad kree mow (noodles, veg, chicken) and my friend got the pineapple fried rice. Both were definitely decent, spicy and a huge portion. We also had the Tom Yum which I threw away. Tasted funny, like fish, although there is definitely no fish in it. Overall, the spot was clean, the food came out relatively quickly and the food (except TY of course) was good. If you're in the area, and you're craving Thai food, it's not a bad choice. read more

WoW! What an amazing find in a small town. This place rivals any Thai place I have ever been to. My grandparents live in the area and introduced me to this great place. The veggies are fresh, locally owned & family operated, and really good curry! The decor is a little all over the place, but it is a small town place so it fits right in. It is clean though, so that is a major plus. We all had two different curries and a middle dish. They were all three amazing. I had the red curry. It was perfectly spicy, fresh, deep flavor, and come with rice. My grandfather had the hello curry and it was awesome as well. My grandmother's noodle dish was awesome. The noodles were made there.
