I contacted Gene several weeks in advance of our trip and he managed to address all of our varied interests. Specifically, we were interested in learning more about the winemaking process, biodynamic wineries, and tasting bold reds and some sparkling wine. Gene put together the following schedule for us, and we could not be more thrilled. Stonestreet Winery - Pretty good, but pricey, Cabernet Sauvignon. Too bad because the tasting room staff were really knowledgeable and friendly. Lancaster Estate - Our favorite! Here Gene scheduled a private tour of the estate and wine cave (where the barrels are stored). They only make four wines (sauvignon blanc, a cuvee, a cab, and a signature bordeaux blend), all of which are absolutely impeccable. We even considered joining the wine club, but the waiting list was too long for my patience. Robert Young Estate - Good scion; also known for their chardonnay but I personally found it too buttery. Tasting room staff was kinda tipsy too... Truett Hurst - A biodynamic winery specializing in zinfandel. I especially love their 2006 Red Rooster zin, which is really spicy and unusual (think cloves and cardamom). Montemaggiore - A small (10 acre), organic, estate winery owned by a family that's recently entered the winemaking trade. Gene scheduled an hour-long private chat with the owner/winemaker, and it was a phenomenal educational experience! Highly recommended. She is a native Californian from Sonoma County all her life and can tell you just how this amazing place has grown, the history and even tell you stories of how her grandmother made blueberry pies. She's also very reasonable and is willing to work with you and your group. She just makes whatever plans you have happen by doing all she can to make your day as pleasant as possible.

He's most familiar with the Sonoma side of wine country (and he's very honest about that), but he was also helpful and knowledgeable during our days in Yountville and Calistoga/St Helena. He pays great attention to the group and schedule... If you're really enjoying a particular place, he'll help rearrange the schedule to allow for more time, and not rush you off to the next place. He gave us a quick tutorial on the e-bikes, making sure we were all up to speed and comfortable before we hit the road. Throughout the entire ride, James was constantly checking in to make sure we were doing okay, enjoying ourselves, and taking in the experience. The e-bikes were a blast to ride, but honestly, a huge part of what made the afternoon so enjoyable was the time we spent talking and getting to know James. James has an incredible wealth of knowledge about the Napa wine industry, and he was able to share so much interesting information along the way. But what really stood out was that his knowledge went far beyond wine. He was genuinely interesting to talk to, incredibly personable, and clearly someone who has a lot of experience and perspective on life. It felt less like we were simply on a guided bike tour and more like we were spending an afternoon with a great person who happened to know Napa incredibly well. The scenery, the bikes, the wine, and the conversation all made for a memorable experience.

The bikes were great and not having to work too hard while pedaling was a treat. April 24, 2026 - Healdsburg, CA…read more This review is not based on a wine tasting experience, but rather on an interaction with the owners. We had a reservation for an overnight RV stay and wine tasting at a winery located down the road behind this one (through Harvest Hosts). When we pulled onto the access road, a car was parked in a way that blocked our ability to reach our destination. My husband went into the winery to politely ask if the car could be moved. He returned shortly after, followed by two women and a man, and what should have been a simple request turned into a surprisingly tense exchange. From where I sat, it was clear they were agitated, gesturing and raising their voices. This went on for several minutes. Eventually, the man moved the car--something that ultimately took no more than 30 seconds. The interaction itself was what made this so upsetting. My husband was told that the road was "their" road and that it was "their" parking spot, and they were initially unwilling to move the vehicle. However, the road is shared access for the neighboring winery, and the car was not parked in a designated space--it was blocking passage. We were simply trying to get to a confirmed reservation. The lack of courtesy and basic hospitality in this situation was disappointing and unexpected. Based on this interaction alone, I would not recommend this winery.

We setup an appointment through her service and she recommends a handful of them based upon your region (Sonoma/Napa/Etc). She helps setup a winery with lunch recommendations nearby or on premises. You then pick as many wineries as you want for the days you have her. We averaged 4 per day including having a nice lunch at two wineries. Brigit is very friendly and helpful when it comes to wines. She is very fun during our drive time with her. When things get a little carried away, she reigns us back in to keep our scheduled appointments. Our next trip back will include using the Red Wine Road Tours!
