"14 West" is located on PCH. It is not on the view side of S Coast Highway; the beach is located…read moreacross the street. Given this: the walk from the hotel to the beach is short. (The hotel has some beach accessories available for rent.) It's also an easy walk to PCH (x) Forest Ave, where there is a concentration of bars, restaurants and shopping. If you are on S Coast Highway, arriving by car, look for the Ralph's grocery store. Turn onto Cleo St. You will see the hotel's parking lot entrance, on your left-hand side, before you reach Glenneyre St. There are a number of short-term parking slots near the hotel lobby; but I would avoid using those, for a number of reasons. Parking is $35/day, plus taxes ($39.99 total). Staff at the front desk found my reservation easily, and the check in process was fast. This is a smaller hotel; there might be only one team member at the desk. If there is a surge of activity, there might be a bit of a wait. With reference to the room assigned to me: The carpets were clean; there were no obvious stains or tears. The furniture was clean, without significant bumps or bruises. The TV worked well. The bedsheets were not plush; but they were spotless, with no signs of excessive wear. I have experienced better mattresses in hotels at this price point; but the mattress here was reasonably comfortable. The bathroom is where you might see the most wear and tear; but the bathroom here was very clean. The towels were not plush, but they were clean, hefty and in good condition. There was a shower (no bathtub). The hotel room was well maintained, but its decor was a bit dated. Based on the room's layout, my guess is that the hotel (as we see it today) was designed in the 1970s. But I also suspect the original structure is even older. The room had a window air conditioner. It was a bit loud; but it worked well. It also had a space heater (no central heating). All in all, it was a good stay. Other random notes: It is interesting that they installed key card locks; but they have reverted to using keys (maybe for maintenance reasons). You might hear footsteps from the room above you. If you are in your room during pool hours, you will hear activity. There are table lamps on the nightstands besides the bed. You turn these lights on by tapping the left side of the base. I learned this by accident, while searching for on/off switches. You are paying a premium to stay in Laguna Beach, versus a comparable hotel in a neighboring city, as close as 15 min (car ride) away. However, I was attending a reception, and the venue was a block away from this hotel. I booked my room using a travel aggregator. Room prices can vary wildly, based on dynamic pricing.

The remote for the sound system doesn't work, and the rugs are filthy. The hose on the deck by the beach to clean off your feat has 2 inches of sand on it so you come out with dirtier feet than when you walked in. It's shocking to encounter this level of neglect at this premium price point. The saving graces are the truly spectacular view of the beach, and easy beach access during low tide. Beds are comfortable enough. Overall, certainly underwhelming for the price point, but despite not meeting our expectations we enjoyed our stay. With just a little more effort this place could really shine.

Once I paid, he disappeared-wouldn't answer any of my calls regarding huge leak in the bathroom, cable, etc. He only got a hold of me to ask me to vacate. He was rude, unprofessional, and unethical. I have reported him to airbnb.

Neils availability to help with check in instructions and any other questions we had during the stay was so helpful and unlike any other rental property I've stayed at. I give this cottage 5 stars because of the amenities provided as well as cleanliness of the cottage when we arrived which is always a concern. There were plenty of extras like games, a new flat screen tv, linens, and kitchen utensils. I would definitely recommend these properties to families or anyone who wants to be in a great area with access to the beach and city. We will be coming back!

We had the loft and another party had the side room. We have no issues sharing the common space and it was fun to experience. This April, I scored a 2 night in cottage 4B on the only rainy/gloomy weekend we've had here. Of all the luck. Within 6days of reservation date, you lose 1 night stay so it was sunk cost so I went ahead and did both nights. Easy to check in and checkout. If you are down the hill, you can get a ride on the golf carts which are very nice. 2 cars overnight as well per cabin. Rooms were clean. There is no AC so be prepared depending on your weather. I wanted to leave windows open but most don't have a screen so you get bugs and I was afraid of critters coming in. After some business in Big Bear Lake, I figured on staying in Southern California for a couple of days. Only about 1,5 hours from Big Bear Lake so let's do it. It can be difficult finding an ocean front condo and for a reasonable price, but this place fit us perfectly and the price, although mid range, $500 per night was well worth it. Starting with Check in, it was seamless. Ryan, at the front desk made it so simple. Our unit, one bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, kitchen living room and a terrace overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Can't ask for much more. Anything you need or want is literally within walking distance. Restaurants galore and many oceanfront. A supermarket about 50 yards from here. This is Southern California, so as the song goes " It Never Rains in California ". Yes I know there's more to this song, but I'm leaving it at that because the weather was absolutely perfect. From our terrace we could watch surfers all day and into the evening. The sunset was like an artist painting. Almost brings tears to your eyes. Just a couple of small issues. First, there are Ductless AC units in the condo but they weren't working. It's very warm, in the 90's, and no AC could be a problem. Ryan, at check in was upfront about this and told us there was a portable AC unit in our condo, which worked fine.disaster averted. Parking is very tight, but as I said before, anything you need is within walking distance, so once I parked my car, I never got in it again until we were leaving. Finally, yes it is ocean front, but there was a beach house in front of us so our view was slightly hindered but not enough to make a difference. If I'm back in this area, or anywhere nearby, I would definitely stay here, and they have a number of units so I'll let you know next time we're here and you can join us. You can be our guests.

Security of the complex and parking area is minimal. Anyone from the alley can easily access the parking lot and all units in this complex (not a good thing in California). At least a week prior to our arrival, someone in the unit had broken a bottle of horridly pungent woman's perfume in the master bedroom. The entire unit reeked, particularly the bedroom, making that room virtually unusable. All windows in the unit had to be kept open 24/7 to make the unit somewhat livable. The odor was absorbed into our clothing and luggage. The cleaning staff, who are there only a couple hours per day at unpredictable times, informed us they had cleaned the smell to the best of their ability and there was nothing more they could do. Due to our inconvenience, we asked for either another unit and/or some other compensation. We were given neither, except the offer to move to a completely different complex for the last night of our five night stay. The management's lack of concern and fairness illustrates very poor business practice and ensures we will never rent from this group (Everyday Luxury) again.

However, I am only giving three stars because first impressions are lasting and the woman who was working the Office check-in desk when I arrived made me feel like an annoyance who was interrupting her work. She was efficient but less than welcoming during the check-in process. Unfortunately, I had to interact with this woman two more times during my stay and each interaction was equally unpleasant. My goal in staying at The Tides was to destress but she made me feel like "Bad Dog". Soon after checking in, I had to return to the Office to ask for assistance with accessing the WiFi and a day later, I had to ask for assistance with accessing the pool. I assumed that I needed to use my hotel key to open the gate to the pool. The Office woman made me feel like a fool when she rolled her eyes and said in a tone that I interpreted as exasperated, "There's a latch at the upper top corner of the gate." She was right. There was a latch but it was painted the same color as the gate and I didn't notice it. I only noticed the key hole. My bad. As I floated in the pool, I said to myself, "You are Bad Dog." Someone needs to explain to this Office woman that without these pesky visitors, her business will have no customers and she will have no job.

The linens and towels were upscale. Very fresh and clean. Kitchen had beyond the few basics including dishes, flatware, full size fridge with freezer, and a nice coffee maker to make fresh coffee. The location was ideal because it was so quiet-no noise from PCH. Very close to town, just a few minutes' drive. Very good communication and tips on staying at the cottages. Sean was extremely helpful and very prompt with replies. Some of the one star reviews are quite outdated. Years ago. Both the living room and bedroom of our yellow cottage had wonderfully quiet ceiling fans and there was air-conditioning. We stayed in a particularly warm November of 2025 and kept the windows slightly a jar all day and even in the evening - it was ideal. FYI: The front entrance has quite a few stairs. Steep stairs. There's a back entrance accessed via the high school parking lot that made it easier to load and unload, but still a bit of a challenge for us seniors with rolling suitcases (and a recent hip replacement ;)). Still, we managed and would definitely stay here again!

The hotel lends out umbrellas, beach chairs, and towels if you want to go walk the 10 minutes to the beach. There are loads of restaurants and boutiques within walking distance too. I think it's $50 a night for a car? I'm not quite sure, but it was around there. It's quiet, convenient, clean, and we would probably stay there again.

What is provided? A sad collection of cheap, warped plastic utensils. To top it off, the sink is partially blocked, there is some black mold on the ceiling, and there's peeling paint on the walls. The remote for the sound system doesn't work, and the rugs are filthy. The hose on the deck by the beach to clean off your feat has 2 inches of sand on it so you come out with dirtier feet than when you walked in. It's shocking to encounter this level of neglect at this premium price point. The saving graces are the truly spectacular view of the beach, and easy beach access during low tide. Beds are comfortable enough. Overall, certainly underwhelming for the price point, but despite not meeting our expectations we enjoyed our stay. With just a little more effort this place could really shine.

Bed was really comfortable. If you don't mind noise it would probably be fine. Might be great if you're out bar hopping or with your family and kids. Cons: Do not stay here if you like to sleep or want a quiet getaway. I don't mind a little noise but there is noise from ... a lot. There is patio furniture set up very close outside your room so you'll hear people day and night. The a/c units sound like a plane taking off so you'll hear not only yours but all the rooms around you at the same time with your windows closed. There were two different hairs on our towels when we checked in. They were scooting furniture and covering the patio chairs (staff) at 12:30 am. There is loud music that plays all day so you can't take a nap. The lights randomly turn on at night waking you up. Since the ocean view is facing the street if you have your windows open for sunlight and the view the people sitting on the patio furniture will be staring right into your room. Just an FYI.

It seems to be pet friendly and leans more towards adults than kids. We came here for a celebration and we were incredibly happy with our experience. Very clean, very comfortable, open and breezy, close to the beach and easy walking to Orange Inn and various other Laguna staples. A longer walk or Uber to Forest Avenue at the main beach. Service was pleasant and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and if we do another celebratory staycation would look at this as a go to hotel

We were on the beach for 5 hours and housekeeping did not come, they didn't even come for the whole trip. I have to say I've been at this hotel 3 times already and this is by far the worst.
