Aquatics Unlimited is definitely one of the most comprehensive and well stocked aquatics store in the Milwaukee metro. I've been here on many occasions and rarely leave without something to bring home to one of my three aquariums and/or our backyard pond. They have a vast array of freshwater aquarium fish, snails etc, as well as salt water, and fish for outdoor ponds (you'll make your way out the back door for this). They have pond plants, aquarium plants, rocks, driftwood, and more. Pretty much everything you might need for your set up or to get set up, they have. They are well staffed and their staff is incredibly knowledgeable. If you're unsure what you're looking for, or having an issue with your aquarium that has left you flummoxed, they can definitely help you through it. One of my favorite things is they have all their plants well labeled (beginner, intermediate, advanced), so you know which ones might require special lighting or co2. This is so helpful to ensure your aquarium is thriving. The only thing I'll mention is their fish prices are a little higher than some of the other aquarium spots in town. It's nice, because they're a one stop shop with everything you need. But, something to be aware of. Big fan of this spot! Get to it! read more

We bought a $60 mature koi here to bring home to our large outdoor pond. I asked staff multiple times if we needed to quarantine the new fish, as well as anything we should be worried about introducing the new fish to our established, healthy group. I was told koi are very hardy, no issues. Unfortunately, about 5 days later, the new koi wasn't doing well and passed away. When we brought it back, at their direction, they said it was a bacterial infection the fish had WHEN WE BOUGHT IT and that it could spread to our other 15+ fish. About 48 hours later, our beloved 10 year old koi Captain started looking ill. We treated him with medicine from this store, another $25, but nothing improved. Captain passed a few days later. We are devastated. While they did reimburse us for the cost of the new koi, they took no ownership over infecting our pond and putting our fish at risk, nor did they tell us this was a possibility when we bought a new fish. We will never visit this store again. read more

Beautiful store with lots of different fishy friend options. Nice staff. It's a must visit.

I love this store! I can easily spend 90 minutes here looking at all of the fish and aquatic creatures. Staff is extremely knowledgeable with both freshwater and marine life and more than happy to chat about their favorite fish/creatures and pets. The displays are amazing - it honestly feels like I'm at an aquarium rather than a "pet" store (fyi aquatic biota only). I can only visit when I am considering a new fishy friend as I can't leave empty handed. On my last visit, I brought home a new Betta. He was is so healthy, vibrant, and happy, I just adore him!! Great place for aquarium enthusiasts and an overall fun place to visit :) read more

My go-to fish and aquarium store since 1995. Sometimes I stop in to get supplies, food, or new aquatic pals. Sometimes I just stop in to look at all the fish. There's so many fish! Fresh and saltwater. It's pretty amazing to look at. Easy to spot on HWY 100 just north of Beloit rd, they have a smallish parking lot that can fill up on the weekends. Luckily they sort of share with Club Paragon next door, so you can likely get away with parking in their lot short term. The staff are constantly on the go since this place is often packed with customers, but they are extremely helpful and friendly and can help with any questions or concerns you may have as a novice or experienced fish keeper. There's such a wide range of supplies. Aquascaping, maintenance, food, plants, etc. Gently used items are also available for purchase- my 10g tank was purchased used many moons ago for about $5. They have a modest rewards program that you may as well sign up for. It adds up over time. They will buy healthy livestock for store credit but definitely call first. SE Wisconsin has a handful of great fish stores that aren't "big box" chains. But Aquatics Unlimited has always been my favorite. read more

Great selection and knowledgeable staff. The store is so beautiful that I get out here more than my bank account likes. My fish from here have always been healthy and when I gotten isopods there's never been dead on arrivals. read more

This place is great. One of, if not the best store for the aquarium hobby in the Milwaukee area. The staff are all super helpful and know what they're talking about. Sometimes you need to hail a worker like a taxi, but I don't blame them, they're working with living animals. They have a great selection and everything you need to make a great fish tank. I did buy some "kitty" tetras the other day and I'm pretty sure that they were mislabeled and I got veilfin tetras instead. But I like fish so I don't really care. It's a little pricey, but that's also par for the course with fish keeping. Love the buy back policy and the live food. I would recommend. read more

Awesome store for all things aquatic! Saltwater and freshwater fish of all sizes and colors, aquariums and all the necessary equipment and decorations to make your personal little ocean or lake pop. The staff are especially helpful and knowledgeable. Adam was a great help in selecting and setting up an aquarium after a few years without one! This is a nice place to take kids, even if you aren't in the market for live fish. It's an educational experience! read more

I ordered a number of fish to be overnight delivered. The email notification for the delivery date was received in a timely manner. I was not going to be home on that day. It was very easy to reply and request the specific date that I would be available. There was no problem changing the day and all my fish came in packaged nicely and healthy. I was nervous ordering livestock through the mail but I would use this store again. read more

My wife and I stopped in on our way home from visiting in-laws and I was pleasantly surprised. This place is great! They have a wide selection of saltwater and freshwater fish, rock, coral and driftwood. If you stop by, make sure to say hello to the most friendly pufferfish I've ever met. The only problem with this place is that it was warm and humid in the building. I was there for 45 minutes to an hour, and I left sweaty. Granted it was a very hot day. I don't know if there was a problem with the air conditioner or not. That may just be the way they keep it because it's best for the plants and or fish. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Good store. Knowledgeable on saltwater. My go to for aquarium type stuff. Solid freshwater picks too

This place said on there website that they buy back all fish & I literally went to there store & the guy at the desk said they don't buy back gold fish or plecostomus & will give you nothing for them & are willing to take it for free, what do they think I am a customer who has the word stupid idiot on his forehead, I don't think so & I strongly highly recommend to everyone out there to not go & shop or buy anything from this store because there bad for business & false advertising on there website upon buying all fish... the man said they only buy back small breeded fish & that's it, so unless everyone & anyone out there wants to gets scammed & screwed over there money I wouldn't go there at all to shop or sell & don't believe any of there advertising on there website, all this store wants to do is screw people over for there money so that they can stay In business. I rather people give this company bad reviews saying bad for business so they get shut down for good, if you need to buy fish food go to Walmart, petsmart, pet Co, pets supplies plus. Now natural world aquarium will buy your fish back also in Waukesha on Mooreland blvd near chase Bank & target & Blaine farm & fleet & Oscar's but I strongly recommend do not go to Aquatics unlimited again there BAD FOR BUSINESS & NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN FOR GOOD... if anyone shall shop at this store just be aware you will be screwed over for your money & everyone that goes & shops in there store that's how there getting people by scamming them & screwing them over for there money & not giving people there money's worth for there fish that they bring in & sell, who gives a crap about all the aquarium fish tanks & ponds they have indoors & the ponds outdoors you can get your fish like I said for cheaper at petsmart koi's goldfish, fancy goldfish, plecostomus, supplies all for cheaper than Aquatics unlimited which they go to the extreme on there products so do your best to avoid shopping at there store or better yet stopping at there store, don't even bother to tour there store, all they do all day long is screw people over by not giving people there money's worth for there fish that there selling to them, & if you must shop there then that must mean your desperate to get screwed over for your money when petsmart, petco, pets supplies plus, pet world natural aquarium those places won't screw you over & you get your money's worth for what you pay for & pet world natural aquarium sells & buys fish same as Aquatics unlimited but in Waukesha & they don't screw you over, they give you your money's worth when you sell to them! I'm telling everyone this right now I'm not ever going back to Aquatics unlimited since there bad for business & they think screwing people over for there money & not giving people there money's worth when they sell there fish to Aquatics unlimited all I have to say to that is they need to be shut down immediately because they also suck big time on customer service, they don't even greet you when you come & go from there store, so those who read this review follow through & spread the news to other companies & friends & families of yours, It's time someone caught on to there bull crap & call them out on it. If your a person that has been buying from them & selling to them for years back to back then do so continue to go with your gut instinct sticking to them, but if you know the possibility of getting screwed out of your money the best advice & opinion is to avoid shopping & going to that store & go else where that does all pretty much the same things that they do but better which is pet world natural aquarium, NOBODY NEEDS TO BE SCREWED OUT OF THERE MONEY BY AQUATICS UNLIMITED WHO IS NOW WELL KNOWN FOR BEING A BAD BUSINESS & IF THEY GET NO CUSTOMERS BUYING FROM THEM, THEY LOSE THE BUSINESS WHICH IS OUR MISSION IS TO SHUT THEM DOWN SINCE ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS GETTING MONEY FROM PEOPLE BY SCREWING THEM OUT OF THERE MONEY SO THEY CAN STAY IN BUSINESS LONGER...( NO CUSTOMERS) = SHUT DOWN BUSINESS BECAUSE NO MONEY TO KEEP THE BUSINESS RUNNING, SO THE 3 MAIN WORDS DON'T STOP & SHOP THERE, DONT STOP TO TOUR THERE, DON'T STOP TO SELL TO THEM THERE BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER OUT OF YOUR MONEY & NOT GIVE YOU YOUR MONEYS WORTH & IM GLAD I CAUGHT THEM IN TIME TO LET YOU ALL KNOW TO STOP GOING THERE & GO ELSE WHERE GOING FORWARD! Thank you all those that view this review! read more

Super impressed. I got an eco grow tank and needed a betta. I had a free coupon for a Petco betta. Glad I came to Aquatics Unlimited. My husband swears his parents took him there when he was a child. It's been around for a long time. Walked in and they have a fantastic pond display. Very well maintained. Tons of tropical and freshwater fish. Tanks, supplies, live plants, you name it, they have it. They even custom build tanks and set them up. Anyway, we walked over to the betta display. They had tons of fish at different price ranges. Every single fish was healthy. While we were looking, an employee named Brian came over to us and introduced himself. He gave us some tips and tricks and a lot of information on how to maintain healthy fish. Super friendly and knowledgeable. I bought a fish and a bunch of different supplies. I am so happy with everything I have. We have the tank set up already and I am so excited. I know that I can call them at any time if I have questions or a problem with my fish. I only spent $23 and that was a bargain. Yes, you can get these fish anywhere but I would recommend coming here because all of their stuff is healthy and well-maintained. Didn't even have a fishy smell. read more

Jess was amazing and so helpful!! Plus stayed open few minute's after closing!! Been return customer for 10 plus years!! Thanks again!!

Aquatics Unlimited is one of the few if not the only: 1) solely focused fish store in the area 2) expertise in freshwater as well as saltwater 3) open everyday (of the independent stores) If you truly want expertise and don't want to leave it to chance with the chain stores, you might want to check them out. However, on the flip side, sometimes fish keeping is like the law, it can be interpreted in more than one way and there are differing opinions. I'd still chance that you'd get decent feedback here. And you can always ask for more than one opinion. Again, I prefer to give Aquatics Unlimited a good review because if this place were to go out of business, shoppers wouldn't have another independently owned fish store around that focuses on fish only available to them. They have a large footprint and lots of options including pond as well as the aforementioned freshwater and saltwater. read more

I have shopped her for over 10 years and loved the super selection of fish for every level of the hobby. I have spent so much money here over the years with all kinds of fish especially cichlids for my 75 tank. My long time hobby came to an end about a year ago when my tank gave way to a leak. I freaked out because I didn't want my little buddies die and had no way to keep them so I put them in a cooler. I called the store and talked to steve and explained that I was a customer with a big problem and he said he would take them all back which he did and even gave me a store credit. I didn't care about credit and threw it away. One day I hope to get back into the hobby and I'm so thankful they saved my fish from creation death. read more

First of all, I adore aquatics unlimited. Most of the time the fish are completely healthy and the customer service is top notch. But today was definitely different. The young girl helping me was negative, and very judgy with my selection of fish to put with my betta even though I had no issues whatsoever with the same fish before. Also, a few of their tanks have dead rotting fish in them. Lots of the bettas are sick, have fin rot, and very thin like they're under fed. A few of their "show bettas" have their own full tank setups and they're beautiful. EXEPT for this one male. He is next to the registers in a cup and a half of water, no space to swim, no heater, and absolutely no filtration. The floating weed like plants didn't allow him to swim, and there is no lid, which is strange for a kind of fish notorious for jumping. Considering aquatics unlimited is a store revolving around the health and care of the fish, this kind of setup is very sad to see. I will continue to shop here for my tanks because it is better than petco/petsmart, but they can definitely do better. read more

My go-to for my 180 reef tank. Huge freshwater assortment and very good saltwater. Saltwater selection may not be as large as another in the area but I never see dead fish in the displays here because 1. They take excellent care of their livestock 2. They QT for 28 days before offering for sale, this is huge for me and 3. Their water is kept right around 1.025-1.026 making acclimation easy. I lost 2 shrimp in a row from a competitor years back because their water tested at 1.031 when I got it home! Won't do it again. Makes it hard to acclimate sensitive fish or invertebrates when the SG is higher than recommended. Aquatics Unlimited doesn't even sell a questionable fish, they put them on a hold for observation until they're eating and a healthy weight. Great practices. They also offer water testing, sound advice and answers to questions and I now buy my water from them because it's fill and go in minutes. read more

I love aquatic. They have a great selection of livestock and aquatic food. They are top 2 in Milwaukee, in my opinion.

I was having issues with my favorite comet ( goldfish) n I live in a rural area. I tried to get help/answers from my local vet n several others but they refused to help in any way, claiming they don't do aquatics. When I lived in Milwaukee years ago I remembered going to Aquatics Unlimited for all my fish needs so as a last ditch effort to save Mr. Bubbles I called them. The gentleman who answered was kind, listened carefully, and most of all was compassionate. His vast knowledge of aquatics helped in our decision on what to do for Mr. Bubbles. I can't thank him enough! A very sincere thank you! Julie J read more

I have been going to this store since I was 7. This store has amazing selection of fresh, brackish, and salt water fish. They have tanks and lots of decorations and almost anything you could think of. The staff are very knowledgeable. I have asked them for help so many times and every employee seems to know a lot about any fish. I call them any time I am confused or need help and they always answer my questions no problem. They will also be honest, even if it means losing money. Unlike Petco or Petsmart which will lie to you about how big fish get or if they are compatible just so you will buy more, the employees here will tell you not to buy fish if it doesn't seem like a good idea. I really appreciate that they do this. They also clearly appreciate their customers. Some of the employees recognize that I (and my mother) have been coming there for almost 10 years. I was surprised when I hadn't been there in over a year and they still knew who I was. I would recommend being a member of their free perks program. They log what you buy and you sometimes get deals. I got 20% off a new fish with it! I also was able to get a refund for a purchase made months before due to it being logged in their system. I would totally ignore the negative reviews here. I think it is very, very likely these people claiming the workers here are "pretentious" are actually pretentious themselves and were upset that someone offered their all knowing selves some advice. I have been here hundreds of times and have always had excellent customer service. Seriously, not even one time has it ever been negative. read more

This is the best store of it's kind in the area and the best thing about it is that it's focus is fish only. No puppies, birds, rabbits....you may find invertebrates and a few amphibians that can peacefully coexist with fish, but other than that, FISH ONLY! I have been a customer since they were located near highway 100 and Lincoln Ave in West Allis, many moons ago, and I still come here when I need advice. Are you going to see the occasional floater in the tank? Of course, that's unavoidable. Are you going to find any supply you could think of for your bowl, tank or pond? Just about. They even sell used tanks and stands at reasonable prices. Heck, they'll even buy your fish when you need to get rid of them! I came here about 5 years ago looking for some corydoras to go in my tank with some cichlids. I asked for bigger corys, knowing that my cichlids would go after the littler ones. One of the guys found me two bigger bronze corys and knocked a couple of bucks off because they were older fish. Well, the cichlids are long gone, but the corys are still around and attempt to breed a couple times a year! From fresh and saltwater fish and other aquatic animals to decor, food, substrate, filters, lighting and tanks, the variety here is amazing. It's like a free little zoo in the 'burbs and well worth a visit, even if you don't have a tank! 129/2015 read more

A great store. The staff is very knowledgeable and the store itself is very clean. (Not something a lot of fish supply stores can say!) I can't remember the girls name who helped me but she walked me through explained everything I needed to get my saltwater tank setup, she spent a good hour with me explaining and making sure I was comfortable with the process and the products I was getting, understood how to use them and why, and gave me different options to chose from that would fit my budget. They have a large selection of freshwater fish, and have stock on pretty much everything you need to setup, maintain and care for your tank. The marine selection was not as big as I was hoping for, however, that did not deter me from making all of my purchases there. Not to mention that they quarantine their fish for 28 days, that is impressive and very comforting - after that length of time the chances of your fish not living is pretty slim, it's you - not them lol. Even though I drove over an hour, I was more than happy with the experience I had with Aquatics Ltd. read more

This store is the best when it comes to fish... their sign even says it. Even if you are not in the fish- buying market, it is fun to go take a look around. They have a wide variety of salt water fish and a big selection of betta which is what I went for. There were $4, 8, 14 and 20 dollar options for bettas. Went with the $4 since it looked just as good as the others. I like how they put effort into making the tanks look cool. I cannot describe how much I love this business. Everyone I've had help me over several years of shopping here has been knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. Sometimes I have to wait a bit for help because they're so busy, but no employees are ever sitting around when there are customers as you might see in other businesses. They have a wide variety of fish and supplies and constantly have new stock coming in. I appreciate being able to buy local products here as well. Prices are a bit higher than other big chain stores on some items, but worth it for the service you receive (in my opinion). Most items and fish are still pretty fairly priced - I don't find much to be outrageously expensive. They do have a rewards account they set up if you'd like and it requires no cards, which is nice. They just look you up by name and they never forget to ask at the checkout. I plan on continuing to do all of my aquarium purchases here and supporting this family shop and I recommend it highly to everyone with fish in the Milwaukee area. read more

They then proceeded to put this fish that they took as a trade in and prices him as a premium koi. This fish was not a premium koi he was a trade in from a random person not a professional breeder. I've been coming here since I was a kid! Every staff person that I have encountered here is very knowledgeable. A few summers ago I worked on a film (with Sean Astin!!), and there was a scene with a fish tank in it. After those scenes were shot, there was a question of the fate of those little fishes. I volunteered to give them a home. Being a new fish tank owner is a lot of work, and requires some problem solving until your tank has a few months to acclimate and make it's own little bio-world. And even then, issues can arise as you're going along. All of this is to say that throughout the last few years, in particular, Aquatics Unlimited has been there for me many times. They've helped me test water, talked me through issues, made great suggestions, and they have a lot of great reading materials that you can take home and study. I also appreciate they way the store it set up - compared to other stores I visited, Aquatics Unlimited is very clean and the animals well taken care of. read more

I have recently set up a Biocube32. I bought all of my live-stock from Aquatics unlimited(No introductions outside of purchases from them). My latest fish developed marine velvet or Ich within a reasonable time after purchase(About two weeks). They claim/advertise to have a 28 day quarantine, Using copper and other fish medications. However given the time frame(28 days), and assuming they QT these fish properly (Which they obviously do not) I would not have had any live stock issues. Now I am forced to treat all of my other fish in a friends QT that I can trust. I would NOT pay the extra money for any of Aquatics live-stock. They have and I quote " No policy in place" for fish replacement due to there own negligence. Skip paying extra for a false claim of QT. You really can't compare a dedicated aquarium store to something like Petco unless you're looking for guppies or assorted African cichlids. AU has an incredible selection, and quality fish. Yes, there are differences in the quality of the fish. Think Whole Foods Chicken vs. Pick 'N Save - They look the same, but definitely aren't. I wouldn't buy equipment there, I do it online because ALL of retail is overpriced, it's not a unique phenomenon in this shop. You may need to wait for service, but be proactive and go up to the register. If you sit in the corner, people will not come acknowledge you (try that at Home Depot or Petco and see how it goes for you). My biggest complaint is that I purchased 2 $13 community fish, and a handful of $7 shrimp. The fish ate the shrimp, I returned the fish within a week, and got $3 credit. That's to be expected, but they're also great about giving store credit for fish if yours start to overpopulate the tank. read more

Great place to pick up all your aquarium needs! I really like this place. They have an extensive selection of both fresh, and saltwater, fish, many species, which are harder to find up here in Wisconsin. They don't carry really hard to find fish, but their selection does go well beyond the norm. They also carry many plants, invertebrates, both fresh and saltwater, and livestock for your ornamental ponds (koi, turtles, etc.). Of course they carry aquariums and all the decorating supplies you will need, from gaudy, neon fake stuff, for your kid's goldfish aquarium, to rocks, of all variety, and driftwood already treated and made safe to go right into your aquarium. The health of their fish seems good and I've not lost many of the fish I have purchased from here. Finally, their staff are excellent, very friendly and very knowledgeable about the product they sell. I like the fact that they leave me alone while I am browsing, but sometimes it can be hard to find someone to help you, especially during busy times. read more

Tough to beat the selection here, and the staff is very knowledgeable IF you can track them down. Never in my hundred or so visits has any employee asked if I needed any help. You always have to walk around trying to track someone down. And it's hard to tell who works there as there are no staff shirts or name tags or anything. When you have a question or need to grab a fish, you have to walk back up to the front counter and try to find an employee.
