Pet me If you're looking for a cat or dog, check out this option. We've adopted a few of each over the years from Elmbrook. Our cats have had some issues, but here's the secret - if you think there is something wrong, make sure they take care of it before you adopt. Problems with teeth are super $$ and we chalk our first up as a learning experience. This is also a great place to volunteer. They can always use dog walkers or people to play with the cats. If you have extra food or toys, you can donate that too!

Adopted our dog and cat from Elmbrook and had great experiences with both. To adopt they require ID. All family members have to meet the dog, other dogs have to have a "meet and greet" and all family members need to agree to a cat. They also check with your landlord or make sure you own your home. I appreciate these policies because they are making sure you and your family are a good fit for the pet. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they respond to questions quickly. Overall, great experience!

The environment of this shelter is very good and there is no smell. Cats live in a clean and tidy environment. My adopted cat came home lively and has learned how to use litter. The staff are very responsible.

Octavius, I hope you got a good home

Best animal shelter I've ever been to. No wire cages, helpful staff and stupid cheap adoption fees.

Great experience with this company! We adopted a young, smart, but anxious pitbull. We were…read moreconcerned over use of negative reinforcement, however, quickly learned this was not that. Our dog loves his trainer Matt! F. In just several short weeks we have seen him build a great foundation with our dog. They have also given us the skills to continue working with him to become the best dog he can be. If you are committed to working with your dog we highly recommend them.

This is the best investment you can make on the quality of life in your pet-friendly household. We had reached the final straw with our pup. She would non-stop bark at anything that moves, pull on the leash for entire walks, herd/nip at our toddler, lunge/growl at house guests while cowering at others, and further unruly behavior. We felt horrible and embarrassed that we couldn't control our dog, a dog that when just with us was the most loving dog we've ever encountered. We were not going to let a dog get the best of us, especially when it comes to our toddler. It was time for a change, we made the call to Sit Means Sit (SMS). We met Matt at our house and we were sold. His knowledge, his sincerity, his views on the problems our pup faces, and his effect on our pup just during this one encounter was all we needed to know that this was the right choice. We opted for the full immersion, and we could not be happier with the results. Her confidence in herself has improved greatly, her confidence in us as her master has improved greatly, and even when she lets her anxiety and energy get the best of her, she can be controlled and calmed in seconds. If SMS can help our dog break down her issues, they can definitely help yours. We honestly never thought we were going to make progress with her, we never expected we'd be able to walk her off leash, and we never though we'd feel safe to let her interact with our toddler. SMS has exceeded our hopes and expectations. You and your dogs quality of life will be forever improved. Just to note, there are three options of training available from SMS. From my personal experience and seeing the other dogs around us at group class, I believe that the full immersion training is hands down the best option. All training options come with life time group classes for you and your dog, available three times a week to fit into anyone's hectic schedule. Group class is completely worth your time to attend (we try to go to all three sessions each week) as it reinforces the training with your dog and yourself in a setting with others who are in the same boat of you. Everyone wants your dog to succeed, just as much as they want their dog to succeed. On top of that, the helpful one-on-one tips from Matt and Laurie further help you feel safe, confident and reassured in your training. They genuinely care about your pets, and our pup is so darn excited when it's time to go to class. This may be the hardest review that I've wrote to date, as words just don't do their service justice. If you're looking for great, passionate, people to help with not only your pet, but you as an owner, Sit Means Sit Waukesha is exactly what you are looking for.

I trended the first group training session which consisted of exercises of slamming a door on your dog's head to keep them from trying to run through as well as using your knee to keep your dog from jumping up on you when they see you. During the session as we were waiting for an opportunity to practice slamming our dog's head in a door, the owner Amy Ammon singled me out (from pop a line of 15 people), approached me and in one of the most condescending interactions I've ever had with another human being berated me and said, "no one is going to do this for you." Yes, Amy. I'm fat and when I take my dog for a walk (or training), I generally don't wear a business suit or even Lulu Lemon athleisure. I'm sorry if my comportment is detestable for you. But you clearly need professional psychological help and have exactly zero business running an animal training facility. Needless to say I did not return for any addition sessions. When I asked for a refund they refused to give me even a prorated refund citing that I was clearly an unfit pet owner. Please for the sake of humanity, the universe, and your pet's, NEVER patronize this establishment.

I last trained this past summer and continue to use email and text for advice and guidance. Amy will help you get the best success from your dog according to their demeanor, behaviors and training needs. Treats can be used however, it's the trainer's choice and not necessary. What I love is that the dogs are trained with positive praise and reinforcement rather than treats if desired. They learn to respond to your voice and reward of attention rather than being tied to a bag of treats. Corrective collars are used when recommended but not required and not cruel or used for punishment. They are just that. Corrective, a reminder and help with communication. Amy explains and instructs on behaviors and rationale behind the dogs behavior which help you understand your dogs motives and needs more. She really spends individual time with real time feedback to clients. During each class, you will be working with your dog along side others the entire time with short instructions/demonstrations from Amy which means you get more real time working with your pup rather than listening to lengthy instructions and little time to work. I've really enjoyed the classes and have had great results. We tend to take hour dogs with us on many occasions, out to dinner, camping, parks, events and hotels and get much attention from others on how well behaved and comfortable the dogs are in their environment. Kids and adults alike may approach them as well as other dogs, even crabby ones on occasion and they are nonreactive and friendly. I will continue to train every year to keep the dogs engaged! I highly recommend amiable dog training to beginners and advanced as well. I also recommend for a consult for specific behaviors and wellness. Thank you Amiable Dog training for all you do!

In our case we brought our own food, and asked for a mid-day nap for our pups to be put back into their room together. My dog is 60 lbs and my sister's dog is 13 lbs, so they spend the days with their own size friends but giving them a break together mid-day was good for them. We got pictures regularly which is always a nice way to relax on vacation. When we picked up our pups they were exhausted, as expected. Both were ready to go home, but we felt sure that they had been well cared for every day. Paying for extras is worth it for our peace of mind, and knowing our dog's daily schedule is different but some parts are the same lets us feel like we have done the best we can when we have to board them. The bath required on the last day is helpful, but my dog's ears were highly matted and I had to cut out the knots when I got him home. I understand that this was from his activities with other dogs, but I also had to remember that the bath is not a groom, just a cleaning. I had planned a full groom for my pup shortly after we got home. Thank you to Ben for being so good with the dogs. I believe everyone here does their best to treat the dogs with kindness and we are already feeling good about planning our next trip, knowing we have a good option for boarding with confidence.

And after a few more visits, they love their groomer and happily trot back with them! It's fantastic to see our dogs each learn to trust the experience and the groomer. To me, it means that when I'm away and they're being groomed, each dog has been treated with respect and handled with care. My dogs have all been large, and if they didn't want to go back with the groomer, they'd let you know my refusing to budge. Erin has handled our poofy Great Pyrenees and his immense coat with the same detail and expertise that she has given to our sleek Black Lab mix who has anxiety and dry skin. We also have a Komondor mix that she has helped with since he was a puppy ; helping to keep his nails, ears, and sanitary areas tidy while I do the work of creating his cords at home. They have been so understanding about his unique coat and we couldn't be happier! I appreciate their expertise and will keep going for all our needs!
