A great selection of diverse livestock and access to aquatic expertise can be reliably found at Sea…read moreCreatures. My wife and I are extremely happy that we discovered this place a while back when we started a new saltwater tank (the first of several!) We're pretty much regulars at this point, often visiting this store every week or two. Our kids love it here as well, and they look forward to seeing all the interesting marine life and learning more about the hobby whenever we stop in. John, the owner, came off as a bit standoffish at first but he's actually very friendly and knowledgeable. The store is often quite busy and I get the impression that he deals with a large number of people who come in the shop just to look at interesting fish or "kick the tires." He warmed up after we had been there two or three times and it became obvious we were interested in more than just looking around. He's provided some great insight, has special ordered a few bulbs for me, etc. I think one of the most telling things about Sea Creatures is the fact that there's almost always one or two "fish guys" around. There are numerous avid hobbyists who frequent this location and at least one can generally be found sitting in the store chatting with the owner and customers about their tanks, giving friendly advice, discussing various setups, etc. As far as I know none of these individuals is employed by the shop and they simply choose to hang around out of their love for the hobby. To me, this speaks volumes about the type of place Sea Creatures really is. This isn't a store that was opened just to make a buck like the big box chain stores. In fact, the owner has actually discouraged me from buying things on several occasions (he indicated that I didn't need a few items I had planned to buy and told me it would be a waste of money to purchase them.) This is a place that cares about the animals and the hobbyists equally and actively seeks to promote a friendly learning environment for people of all experience/knowledge levels. I've attached pictures of some of the "sea creatures" in my home that we've gotten here to date! All in all, this is an exceptional place. I anticipate my family and I continuing to be regular customers for a long time to come.

The owner John, is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable and his prices are very affordable! If he doesn't have what you are looking for, he WILL get it for you! I'm kind of torn on this place to be honest. My first visit there, the employee working was on the…read morephone (sounded like some aggressive customer service inquiry) and said he'd be right over to help us out. Nearly half hour later he came by to see what we needed. I was a little annoyed, but dismissed it because I understand that sometimes those types of calls are tedious and frustrating. We decided to pick up 4 serpae tetras, 3 Gouramis, and a synodontis catfish. When we told the guy what we wanted, he hastily grabbed a net, dipped it in the tank, and tossed the first fish he caught into the container. He did it first with the tetras, which I wrote off because they pretty much all look the same anyways. When I pointed out the opaline gouramis, he ran off so quick I didn't noticed he grabbed a giant fish with barely any pattern, whole they had some stunning opalines in there with lots of deep blue spots that were smaller that I definitely would have preferred. Also, when picking the catfish, which are known for their black and white spotted pattern, I specified I wanted a spotted one (some were solid colored). His response, naturally, was to scoop up an all brown one and toss it in the container and begin to walk away. That time I called him out immediately and chose a different one. Another thing that happened when picking fish; all of the gouramis were labeled 3 for $10. Me and my boyfriend openly discussed the price in front of the employee and made it really clear that we wanted to partake in that deal, and he showed us toward the fish that applied. I didn't notice until after we left that I was charged separately for all of the fish. When I called back to ask why, he told me it was because apparently only two of them were regular gouramis and one was a dwarf. If I had known, I would have chosen another one instead of the dwarf. No biggie!! Instead of telling us though, the employee decided to be greedy and keep his mouth shut so he could take advantage of charging us more. Lastly, the synodontis catfish I bought was belly up within 24 hours, when all of my parameters were perfect and all my other fish were thriving. When I found the dead synodontis the next morning, I immediately called the store. I told them about my negative experience (I spoke with a different employee) and about how I believe I deserve a replacement fish despite the strict no return policy. The gentleman on the phone told us to come to the store so we could work something out. When we got there, he informed us that the man we dealt with the day before was actually the OWNER, which was baffling. However, this employee (I regretfully can't remember his name) went above and beyond to make sure we left happy. He allowed us to exchange the synodontis for a new one that seemed a bit bigger and healthier than the first. I was very happy after that, but he went out of his way to fix our other issue, and offered us to pick any gourami to take home free to make up for us previously being taken advantage of. This gentleman is the only reason why I'll be returning to this shop. I'm glad at least this man employs honest people that care about customer satisfaction.

Disgusting! I went…read morein to buy worms for my bearded dragon and was shocked to see puppies in what I would describe as a fish tank with small vents to breathe through. No water, no food, shredded newspaper saturated in urine and feces. I stood there in disbelief. I honestly thought days of buying puppies from a pet store no longer existed. There was several signs posted everywhere not to take a pictures. It's is probably because of the deplorable conditions. I went up to the front and inquired why there was sign saying no photos and other weird signs speaking of the first amendment. The female (who I later discovered was the owner) of the store got very defensive and rather aggressive stating "... there's a bad group in town, trying to shut us down" I told her I had no idea what she was talking about and proceeded to ask her questions of why the cages were dirty, why they had no water or food and why were they living basically in a fish tank. One puppy was just spinning in circles(which is a clear sign of anxiety and boredom). One puppy appeared to be drugged. One tank had three puppies in it ! One puppy was panting profusely. A couple came in while I was there and they too were in disbelief. They had items in their hands to purchase but when they saw the puppies, the wife turned to her husband and said she would never buy anything from a store like this she put everything down and they bolted out. As I tried to explain this to her. She told me I had no idea what I was talking about grew aggressive and asked me to leave. I told her I would gladly do so and it has gone downhill since an A' s Aquatics sold it to them. I lleft and cried in my car because of the condition the puppies were in. I found out that this owner has another business so I drove up there and it was just as bad if not worse. I will never spend another penny in that store and tell anyone who will listen. I looked at the breeder's name on the card that was attached to the fish tank the dog was living in and it was linked to one of the top 100 worst puppy mills! I also don't know how the town of North Kingstown approved a business like this. I truly do not know how these people sleep at night! I assure you any good review must've been when Adam from an aquatics owned it.
