"Caveat Emptor" (buyer beware). Rarely use door to door sales. Salesman seemed decent, I listened long enough to justify signing up. Sales tactic of "we have technicians that will be treating other neighbors homes this week and can offer you a special deal" (paraphrased on recollection). Signed an agreement on (1) basis of other neighbors, (2) seemingly good guy, (3) liked the idea of more organic or the less harsh chemical type treatment philosophy, (4) the treatment around all windows, eves they brush to remove cobwebs and dust for a more effective barrier for spiders, bugs, etc., (5) spray foundation and ground out 10-15 feet for strong ground barrier of pests, and (6) interior spray for any problem areas (focus of a few windows in basement and ground level). Went for the full service solution.
They were offering some sort of payment plan, believe quarterly.
Technician shows up (younger college age person, attitude was it's a pay check). These are not seemingly knowledgeable pest control technicians, it's hiring people that want to make $ for themselves and service is seemingly low priority as they probably have reasonably high turnover or seasonal personnel. They aren't in it for the long-term or being a top tier technician in my estimation having used other services in the past that are locally owned, operated and seem to have more stable focus on customer service and retention. Watched technicians work for start, no way he executed all the points sales person sold me on when I signed the agreement. Home is basement + 2 stories, nearly 5,000 sq ft home on 3/4 of an acre and vegetation all around. He was done in 20 min and asking for me to sign the document of "completed services". I questioned if he completed points made above and he suggested all work is done. Signed and then inspected later.
certainly did not brush and treat all ground area, windows outside and inside as discussed with sales person. because I know what it takes to spray just the outside along the foundation without any meaningful barrier and it takes more than 20 min.
The sales person said initial treatment + 2nd treatment within 30 days need a 2nd application to really secure barrier for the season. then 3 quarterly treatments to maintain. I awaited contact from corporate or whomever is to schedule 2nd treatment. 60 days, then 90 days later... still no word from them to schedule and follow-up per the agreement. They were sending me an email at 90 days for payment, because fortunately my credit card wasn't clearing. I called and said, they hadn't met the terms of service that were presented, sold, and I agreed to. I requested to cancel the service. they suggested I OWED $300.00 or whatever amount to buy out remaining balance of the agreement. I said, good luck with that, I will go to small claims court before I pay for that, considering they failed to delivery on their service. The customer service was very poor, lacked sympathy or willingness to work around and offer some smaller $____ to buy out. Ultimately I suggested I'm terminating for cause on their end, not because I am voluntarily terminating for my own reasons.
Frankly, I don't believe their treatment would have been effective, it's all organic and not sure it's going to do the trick if it were applied correctly. More importantly, I don't trust the competency of their people given the perception of hiring practices. Making the owners lots of money... they were the ones that owned another pest control company and sold it and started this new business.
Seems the focus is to make $, not serve the clients best interest. For that reason, I suggest "buyer beware". read more
