When realizing that your computer has taken a crap too big for any normal person to fix, you have to actively involve yourself in one of the greatest wallet draining and migraine inducing tasks: finding a computer nerd to fix it. I know this problem well, as I'm always going to sites I have no business at, clicking 'yes' on pop-ups just because they tell me to, and opening emails that are so obviously spam that my eight year old would be surprised. What can I say? I'm of the school that 'nothing bad will happen to me'. Yeah, right. Computer maintenence services are one of those things that you never really know you can trust. There are so many doofy goons out there proclaiming to "know" what is wrong and "certain" they can fix whatever virus you've caught, that lay persons like myself are often tricked right out of hundreds of dollars before we know what hit us. What you want is not some minimum wage Geek Squad employee who will charge you whatever Best Buy says is right. You want a neurotic person who is so in love with computers that you suspect he might just be one. You want a guy who sleeps only five hours a day because he just can't stop thinking about that Trojan you got yourself involved with. You want a guy who gets excited about what he does for a living. I came in…read morelooking to upgrade the PC i already had with some brand new parts i bought, and instead of slapping everything in there (which i now know wouldn't have worked), and charging me anyway, he gave me the honest truth which was that my computer [14 years old with DDR3 memory] was not only incompatible with the parts i brought, but wasn't worth upgrading/wasting nicer parts on it at all, and I was simply better off buying a new setup entirely. Appreciative, but pretty bummed out, I took everything home and he was nice enough not to charge me for his time. I go home, and a few hours later, DC computers texts me and says they have an extra model for sale that not only met my budget, but would fit the parts I still had so I wouldn't need to return them! They have cut rate prices AND cut rate service. I brought in a phone for a screen repair only to find that the repaired screen was broken upon further inspection. They said it was not their fault and proceeded to attempt a gaslighting campaign against myself and my girfriend, of which we were supposed to believe that we had unwittingly broken it on the transport home. The gentleman at the store had become verbally combative and argumentative. His initial solution was to replace the new screen with the broken one and refund my money. I agreed as I could tell negotiations were deteriorating and could possibly lead to an excalated situation. They did not uphold their word and bargained agreement as when I arrived, they then said that no refund would be given and they would not be honoring their original service guarantee. I dont know what has happened to customer service these days, but it definitely seems to have taken a drastic nosedive.
