We had an unusual problem, with no obvious solution. Above the electric stove top on our kitchen island there is an old (Zephyr) range hood with a glass canopy that had been installed too low and intrusive, at least relative to the location of my head when cooking. We had hoped to be able to lift the whole thing a few inches, but had no idea how. Enter Eliot from Applicare. He pondered the situation, consulted a printout of the manufacturer's docs, and discussed with us. The conclusion was that we could probably just eliminate the canopy and retain the key functionality of the hood. 90 minutes of hard work ensued, mostly by him, but ably assisted by my wife and (occasionally) me, and it was done! Moved into a new apartment and the freezer wasn't staying cold after we moved in. Because of this, the alarm would go off constantly. The apartment front desk recommended us a few fridge specialists to take a look. I went with Elliot Francis since he was the quickest we could get someone to look at our freezer within a week. Booked the appointment with his secretary. She tells me the appointment for the first visit is $250 plus tax and if there's a second visit needed, it'll be $80 plus tax. Totally fine, doesn't tell me anything about how to pay for it so I'm assuming in this modern day, there's a pay portal or something digital that we can use (Zelle, CashApp, etc). On the day of the first visit, he tells me he's going to get to my apartment from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - He arrives at 3:00 p.m. 2 hours late. Comes through the door and takes a look at the freezer. We remove all the drawers and items in the freezer so that he can take a closer look at what I presume is the issue. Within a few seconds, he identifies that the evaporator fan needs to be replaced. Tells me that I need to go buy it from this website and that he'll need to come for a second visit. Tells me it'll be $80 for a second visit. I'm renting from the apartment so I need to talk with my unit owner about purchasing a replacement fan and having a second visit. So I call her on the phone and she talks with Elliot and Elliot is acting incredibly unprofessional talking with my landlord. She repeatedly asks what's the situation with the freezer and Elliot just pressing on her to answer questions like "Is your day blessed today?", "Is god blessing you today?", "I'll answer after you answer me" until my landlord finally just says "yeah, it's blessed but can you please tell me what's wrong with my fridge?". He finally let's go and all I could hear is them arguing about the cost of the replacement fan vs. replacing the whole fridge. He's at this point seemingly ticked off and speaking aggressively to me after he gets off the phone with her. My landlord and Elliot agree to just doing the replacement. He gets off the phone with her and now talks to me about payment. I ask him how he prefers his payment. He tells me that it's cash or check and that I should've known this from the secretary. The secretary did not tell me this when I set up the appointment. I tell him I don't have the cash or check right now but I can run to the bank and get him the cash. He tells me he's going to wait in my apartment until I return which I find uncomfortable. I ask him if he could go wait in his car as I'm not comfortable with him in my apartment. He tells me some story about someone in past scamming him or something. So I tell him that I don't have a cash or check on hand. I ask him if he has Zelle or Venmo. He says he doesn't believe in that kind of technology and they always charge him too much on the transaction fee. To my knowledge, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp has ways you can get around the fee. Anyways, we get into a small fight about payment and he finally reveals to me that they have a company PayPal account that I can send money to. I pay him and show him the receipt on my computer. He tells me he wants it in an email. The transaction receipt is literally on my screen with the Applicare company name as the recipient. He asks me if he can get on my Wi-Fi so he can see it on the email. At this point, we're both talking aggressively with each other and I just want him out of the house. I tell him no to the Wi-Fi password and tell him that this is the receipt and he needs to leave. He finally leaves. I make the order for the fan, it takes a few weeks to get here and two weeks after getting the fan to get him to come see it for a second visit. On the day of the second visit, Elliot Francis tells me that it'll be $100 plus tax after both he and his secretary tells me that it'll be $80 plus tax. Mind you, I have to take off from work to be home to receive him and he calls me and tells me this on the day of with about an hour before he arrives. No one tells me it's $100. It's been repeated $80 over and over again. He tells me that PayPal charged him a transaction fee and that he's charging me $20 to cover the first visit. At this point, I think he's a total hack trying to scam my landlord off of $20. Additionally, I experimented with some fixes (taking the top drawer out of the freezer, not overstuffing the freezer, etc.) and the freezer works perfectly fine. I'm not sure why he recommended the evaporator freezer at all since it seems like the "broken" one is working fine. Anyways, I talk with my landlord and we agree that from both of our experiences, we don't want to work with him anymore. So I cancel the appointment and he tells me he's happy he doesn't have to come over here. What a piece of work. I don't recommend Elliot Francis. Bad customer service, bad communication, bad overall experience. read more

Elliot Francis is one of the most unprofessional rudest individuals ever. I have no words for how rude he acted towards me the first time he came to service out appliance. No idea how anyone has been giving this guy 5 stars. He comes in unequipped to do the job on multiple visits and tries to nickel and dime you on every little thing you can imagine before he even gets the job done. Also beware, if you try to pay with anything other than cash he will make up and claim you need to pay extra for him to just accept payment through something like PayPal. Applicare (877 796-2531) recently serviced our Liebherr refrigerator. The fridge section was accumulating water and the ice-maker wasn't functioning. Eliot Francis was able to rapidly identify the problems and then both fix the issues as well as give us a short tutorial on how to avoid these sames issues (and thus future onsite service calls) moving forward He was great technician and took great care to do a good job.
