I was not impressed with Appliance Express. I contacted them because my 3 year old Whirlpool oven (that was in the house when I bought it) kept randomly losing power. I wasn't sure if it was an electrical issue in the house or a problem with the oven, but I started with the appliance. I made an appointment with Appliance Express--they couldn't tell me until the day before what time they'd come out, so I had to allocate the entire day to stay home. The day before they texted me with a time range, so narrowed it a bit. On the day of the appointment the repair guy called me when he was on his way, which was helpful. The repair guy was very nice but didn't strike me as being terribly knowledgeable about our particular oven. However, he suggested that it needed a software update (which required first connecting the oven to our WiFi). He gave me a phone number to Whirlpool support who could assist in connecting the oven to our WiFi and downloading the update. He barely touched the oven, other than to look at the current software version on the display. But for that helpful little piece of advice about needing a software update I was charged $162.36 by Appliance Express. They could have just told me over the phone, before someone ever came out, to try that solution first. I got the oven connected to our WiFi (I'm a retired IT guy and am very intentionally judicious about what I connect to our home network as I'm very aware of the security and performance/bandwidth implications of connecting devices willy-nilly). Once connected, I had trouble getting the update to install. The repair guy watched for a little while and then left. I called the Whirlpool number and they were very helpful in getting it sorted out (it turned out there was something they had to initiate on their end). After the software update I have had no problems with the appliance (other than I think it's stupid that an oven requires Internet connectivity and software updates to function). So, in the end Appliance Express identified the likely problem so that I was able to take care of it myself, but they charged me $162.36 for that little nugget of information. They could have just suggested over the phone that I try that first before they came out. read more

Absolutely terrible company! Bait and switched! Over the phone with Whirlpool it was confirmed I would be covered for all parts & labor for 5 years and I was within that timeline. No mention of any service fee to come out. It was explained that I would have no out of pocket. The scheduling department of Appliance Express called me to quickly get set up with repairs. They were super friendly and efficient to get me in quickly. The problems all started as soon as the rep Lou walked through the door. I could tell immediately by his body language that he was looking for a quick shift punch out and go off to lunch and didn't want to be bothered to get into this repair. He was very abrupt in his communication and asked who I had come out before him and I explained a small one man business and he started down talking them asking if they even spoke good English and all sorts of disparaging remarks instead of focusing on fixing my damn refrigerator. 20 minutes went by and he had no fix and then proceeded to tell me I'd need to pay a $149 fee first before he could go further. I said no, nothing was mentioned about a $149 service fee in fact Whirlpool confirmed I'd be covered. He said the dispatch team always tells the customer about this. Well guess what, no rep told me this. He proceeded to be combative. I started calling the office and he started to pack up. Complete jerk. As I was on the phone with the manager for Appliance Express he made zero effort to try to remedy the situation and basically told me to take a hike. The manager on the phone was also just as useless and instead of trying to make good on things she made the situation worse by saying "well we only tell customers about the fee if they ask". Are you kidding me?! First it was supposedly covered as per Whirlpool so I already felt like Appliance Express was pulling a fast one, but it was confirmed they are untrustworthy as the manager straight up said they hide that info unless someone asks. lol. That's awful. I wrapped up the call explaining they should look for an incoming Yelp review. And that was her chance to try to remedy it but instead of that she got snippy and said well will look forward to it! And I hung up. Absolutely irritating experience and waste of my time and day. They do not service Rockdale, TX. They associate with whirlpool who makes it impossible to file a warranty service request. Whirlpool uses a tactic of long hold times and eventually dropped calls. Melissa from appliance express tried to conference call whirlpool in after four attempts the call drops. Whirlpool uses a tactic making it impossible to reach them to file a service request so eventually the consumer gives up and their warranty expires. This was by far a terrible experience with whirlpool and appliance express. Plus the employees don't know their mission statement and when asked to speak to the owner of appliance express they will not give you his information. read more

2 stars on Yelp means "Could've been better". That's the truth here. The guy that came over to look at my microwave was awesome and nice and super honest and saved me money by some of his recommendations that I can follow for the rest of my life. That guy gets 5 stars. But I gotta ding the company itself on my score because it was like $160 or so just to have them just come out and look at it. He was at my place for about 20 mins. It felt a little bit like robbery. If they're not at your place for more than 30 minutes and they don't do anything but give you some pointers, it shouldn't be more than $50 or so, in my opinion. When I requested the appointment, they knew exactly what model of microwave I had (a cheap Whirlpool), so they could have just told me it's cheaper to get a new one before they even came over. After the gouging, I ended up just getting a cheap $85 countertop microwave from Best Buy and am just using my over the range one I was trying to get repaired for the exhaust fan. I'm just trying to save people some money here... Point is, if your microwave needs repair and you can get a comparable microwave for anywhere from $100-$300, you're better off just getting a new one than hiring Appliance Express (or probably any company) to come out and look at your microwave and possibly repair it. The tenant reported it took them less than 20 minutes to fix. Our bill was almost $500. I called the company and they basically told me I was lying when I said we did NOT receive a quote. The young lady actually told me they have a taped recording of me approving a quote. The only time we spoke to them was to ask if they traveled to our area for repairs. I disputed it with my credit card company and actually paid part of the bill (about $350), which should have been a reasonable amount. I got a letter from Whirlpool regarding a potential issue with my dishwasher that could cause leaks. They said they'd fix it for free, so I contacted Whirlpool, and they set up the appointment with Appliance Express. When the technician showed up, I asked him what the issue was, and he explained that on a few machines, the heating element had melted, so they were replacing the heating elements on certain machines. So he replaced mine, and all went well, or so I thought. The next time I ran the dishwasher, I found that it was no longer heating the water. The heating element would come on for the dry cycle, but not during the wash, so my dishes were still dirty, with baked on food from the dry cycle. I do know for a fact that my dishwasher used to heat the water, and according to the owner's manual, it is supposed to. It also has "Hi Temp" and "Sani Rinse" features, and I'm not sure what those would even do if the dishwasher did not have the ability to heat the water. However, when I contacted Appliance Express, I was told that the element was only for the dry cycle, and this person actually told me that she had been working there for seven years, and had never even heard of a dishwasher that heats its own water. I have spent some time on reddit, so I should no longer be shocked by someone so confidently incorrect, but I was gobsmacked. I don't even know where to proceed from here. I tried contacting Whirlpool, and they sent me back to Appliance Express. The dishwasher expert told me that they could send someone out to take a look at it, but that I would have to pay for it. I have to pay to fix the free "fix" that they broke. That does not sound reasonable. read more

When I bought a Whirlpool Refrigerator from Home Depot a few years back, they didn't install it correctly and the French doors weren't closing properly. Appliance Express is the authorized repair facility for Whirlpool and they came quickly and promptly. They leveled the fridge slightly backwards so that the doors closed properly. They also showed me how occasionally a little ice would get into the light switch in the freezer and how to get it working again. Just recently the ice maker stopped working. I found a good video on YouTube on how to replace it, it's not very difficult. However, I'm not good at bending over and upside down to get into the freezer and decided to call them. They were quite busy at the time and made me an appointment early the next week. They showed up on time, with plenty of advance notice (I really appreciate that from service companies). As suspected the technician let me know that the ice maker was dead and needed to be replaced. The agreed upon price was reasonable (with the first service call deducted from the total) and well within what I was willing to pay. They let me know they'd come back next week when the part came in. Again, they showed when they said they would and it took Luis about 5 minutes to replace it and make sure it was working. With a one year warranty on their work, I was quite happy to pay for this repair. Appliance Express is an excellent, honest company and they're the only ones I'll call if the refrigerator (or any of my other appliances) need repairs. read more

I had to call them again (during the pandemic) to assess my slowly-dying dishwasher. Turns out in the Great Texas Power Outage of Feb 2021, appliances got compromised everywhere. In my dishwasher's case, the internal water something-or-other connector got compromised and it never functioned as robustly afterward. Appliance Express sent two men (wearing masks and observing all good Covid protocol) who assessed the situation and quoted me what it would cost to fix. They could have persuaded me to spend money with them fixing it, but they were very candid and advised me (against their own financial interest) that it was time to buy a new machine. We had a very helpful technical conversation about the types of new machines out there and what features to look for. I learned more about dishwashers that I didn't glean from my Internet research. That's real value. I really appreciate their professionalism and knowhow and recommend them highly. read more

Brandon fixed our dryer!!! We have a whirlpool brand dryer that opens up on the front. It stopped working. Just would not turn on. I believe Appliance Express is the only authorized Whirlpool brand repair company in the greater Austin area. Brandon came out and diagnosed the problem quickly. He changed out some computer components and got it back up and running. Polite, on time, friendly, explained what he was going to do and did it. He called 10 minutes before arrival. Showed up when he said he would. Their customer service folks were nice as well as I called to confirm the appointment. Friendly and helpful. Can't ask for more than that. Now we do not have to hang dry everything like in the old days. I cannot tell you how much we missed having fluffy towels vs hang-dried crunchy ones. ~Totally misleading. Total frauds. Would not recommend. The problem ended up being "the easiest fix" for my GE gas stovetop according to their GE knowledgeable technician. The issue is Appliance Express sent out a GE novice technician the first time and charged a $125 diagnostic fee. This was days AFTER confirming with Appliance Express the exact GE stove and serial number. So they sent out a Non-GE technician for what they knew was a GE Stove. As you guessed it, he wasted an hour messing around and no diagnosis was made. I got as far as he did at figuring out the problem and I didn't cost $125. Time and my money wasted. Subsequently, Appliance Express stated they needed to send two technicians because the problem was too difficult for one technician to solve, and yep, charge a second diagnostic fee. The second time they came out, it was a second knowledgeable technician who fixed the problem in minutes, and the same first novice technician that had already wasted my time. The novice technician was clearly there as an observer to learn. This was not a problem that "requires two technicians." And yeah, they charged $366 in addition to the diagnostic fee. For "the easiest fix," which could have been done the first time if they sent a GE technician to fix a GE stove. Time and Money Wasted. read more

The technician Vince and his partner (he was training) came by today, and after several minutes of thoughtful analysis and overview of the dishwasher, the issue was corrected. Appliance Express has been excellent for us. We had a fridge that needed repairs and they were always on time and took care of it quickly. This past year, our clothes washer was on the fritz. Maurice was the repairman. It took a few trips as he had to diagnose and then after the washer developed another issue that was supposed to have been fixed by a previous company but obviously wasn't. Maurice took care of that issue as well. He went above and beyond-even coming on Christmas Eve and did the final repair. I highly recommend this company. I was not a happy camper with the report (for Allstate) that John wrote with regards to my "new" washing machine. He blamed the shaking and the rattling of my new machine on my floors when I called him and talked to him and told him that my Kenmore that I'd had for 10 years never shook, and never had issues with my floors. Why would he say that now about this new Maytag washing machine that I've only had since March 13. We recently called Appliance Express to fix our Maytag dryer and were more than pleased with the quality of service and customer care! Susan, the customer service rep, was super helpful and friendly. She clearly communicated the "diagnostic" fee of $150 (a little steep, but it is what it is) and said that fee would go toward parts and labor. She took a detailed description of the issue and said someone would call if additional parts were needed beyond what the tech would have on his truck. Paul, the technician called ahead of his arrival and was right on time. He was incredibly nice, informative and had the parts needed to fix the dryer. The drive out cost was a little high ($260.00), but the work is warrantied and, most importantly, the dryer works! I would recommend them, especially if you have any Whirlpool family products (Maytag, Amana, KitchenAid, JennAir, etc.). read more
