Wow--was I wrong about Applebee's! It's been years (and a few states) since I last visited an Applebee's, and I didn't expect much coming in--especially since my last experience was at a location in California. But this Applebee's in Shirley totally changed my mind. Very nice and clean. First off, the vibe is great, and the bartender Amanda is absolutely on top of her game. I usually don't eat at the bar, but this one is set up so well--it's actually comfortable to dine there. There's even a footrest built into the bar so your feet aren't awkwardly dangling and purse hooks. Small touches are so appreciated! The food came out fast, which is always a win. As someone who's vegetarian and often eats vegan, the menu didn't have a ton of options for me, but I made it work. I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes, and got the broccoli and coleslaw. Everything came out in under 20 minutes and it was honestly delicious. No joke. Not overpriced either, and the whole meal was only 600 calories--way better than some of the other heavy options on the menu. Of course, I wish there were more veggie or plant-based choices, but hey, it's Applebee's--I'm just grateful I found something tasty and satisfying. On top of that, they had great big TVs going and this fun, interactive trivia game that we all played together. My coworkers are obsessed with Applebee's--they all have the trivia game app, rave about the buckets of Bacardi, and are die-hard fans of the steak, French fries, and some chocolate brownie-and-ice-cream dessert (still not sure what it is, but they LOVE it). We stopped in here after being in the area all day. I ordered the Cajun chicken and shrimps, with mashed potatoes. And my bf got something with rice. We waited for about 10 minutes for our waiter, they took our orders, and we waited. They brought us our meals, and we started eating. There was a long hair in his food. Automatically not coming back here! And will not recommend this place. The atmosphere is very hometown-friendly with all age groups, from families to friend groups. The waiters were friendly, though because we went on a busy Saturday night the service was a bit slow. it was a Saturday night I was with me and my girlfriends and their kids came too so did mine. It was actually Slurpee day that day. when we sit down our waiter asked us for our drinks as normal and told us we were not allowed to to bring outside drinks I kindly reminded our waiter. It was naturally slurpee day. He said it's fine. Just make sure the general manager doesn't see it. after that, we ordered our drinks and food and continued our conversation. out of nowhere, the general manager comes to our table, interrupting us and demanded to handover our drinks or to leave the building we all understood our kids were sad. They couldn't keep their drink so naturally my kids started drinking their Slurpees as much as they could before disposing of them. as my kids drinking their drink, he demanded that we would hand them over to throw them out. Then he proceeded to snatched the drink out of my kids hand. This is completely unnecessary and health violation. This is probably the worst Applebee's we've ever been to, and hubby and I usually have no complaints when visiting the chain. First the host sat us and told us someone would get to us "when they have a chance". Odd. Next the waitress was terrible. She was friendly but either badly trained or taking care of too many tables. We waited a good 15 minutes just for our drinks. Every ... single ... course ... took ... forever. And they were NOT busy. There was a hair in my main course. And finally, when Hubby asked for a to-go box, again the wait went on and one. We ended up paying with the tablet at the table and just leaving. We are treated with kindness and respect by all of the wait staff .Because of the wait staff many of us come on the regular , and by that often more once a week. When something is wrong, they fix it. We all know Applebee's & what time expect, so the bad reviews didn't scare me off. It's one of only sit down restaurants in area that isn't fast food, so we came here. So festive for the holidays. Great place to catch some Christmas cheer with friends because they did a wonderful job with the lights inside. We came the Friday night after Thanksgiving. It wasn't crowded. About 8pm on Friday. Greeted & seated immediately, with a smile. Our server was also very nice and attentive. Like I mentioned, i loved all the Christmas lights and the layout of restaurant. Smaller than most locations with just one section of tables that went square around the bar area. We were seated in corner booth as there were 6 of us. Our waitress immediately came over, took our drink order. So the complaints about service, maybe they are stepping up their game because our server could not have been nicer or more attentive. The food was the food. You know what to expect. It was fine. Came quickly, was hot and tasted as expected. This isn't a place you rave about the food. It is what it is. But I will say this..it's better service and food than the Miller Place location which is closer to our home. I would drive the extra distance and come here first. Give it a shot. Just walked out of Applebees after waiting 55 minutes and not being approached by a waiter. I think the problem started when Jade put us in a booth in a section that was totally empty while the rest of the restaurant was packed! After the initial 25 minutes of waiting a waiter walked by quickly and over his shoulder mentioned "I'll be with you shortly guys" well that never happened so then we asked Jade if we could sit in Joaquin' s section because we remembered how good he was the last time and saved us. She really should've told us that his section was on the other side and he was really much too busy so we sat in another booth and waited an additional of 30minutes until we got up and walked out. Haven't been to an Applebee's in ages ! Probably 10 years. The food was ok. The portions are large and they give you free refills on chips. For my main entree I got the Applebee's signature "fiesta lime chicken" it was pretty good but as you can imagine there wasn't much put into it. The rice was room temperature that was probably my fault because I I took forever to eat my appetizer. What was cool about this specific location is their walls. I went to high school in the area and it was cool to see old photos of sport teams and what not of people I recognized, especially since I met up with a old friend. All in all 4 beers, 2 appetizers and 2 entrees came out to 70 dollars! I left full and satisfied for the most part. Their covid protocols seemed to be working well. Valerie was one of the most rude managers i've ever come across in the food industry. The 4 people waiting for to gos were 6 feet apart, social distancing and she came over and said "i need EVERYONE to get outside right now only ONE person is allowed here" in the meanest tone ever. She told me she could only give me my food when the to go person came back(which she had 4 waiting on the table and 4 people waiting for food that wasn't on the table) that she wasn't capable of opening the draw to take my money and give a helping hand to the hard working to go girl. I will be contacting corporate tomorrow because no manager should not come off as rude and nasty as she did to paying hungry customers that are just waiting for their dinner. The hostess was prompt in seating us and included the name of our server when we were seated. The server was a young man with an inviting smile who introduced himself and took our drink order. He was extremely patient as we asked a bunch of questions about how the 2for$ menu worked. Great so far. We order and our appys come out with our house salad. Good so far...no complaints. BUT...when our entree orders came out they didn't look appetizing at all. My friends meal was just shameful to look at and my little 6oz steak was lined with hard grizzle... easily seeing the steak was not fit for a dog. The grizzle was so prominent that I couldn't cut thru it. When our server came over I explained that I tried to eat around the grizzle but the little bit of steak meat was no competition for the 2 thick strips of grizzle. He apologized and I said that it wasn't his fault it was the cook (chef) that should've not even considered plating this piece of grizzle. The server asked if I wanted another piece prepared but I was so grossed out I politely said no. If this is how Applebee's wants to keep their business operating, this is exactly how not too. I doubt I will frequent this establishment again. I will add that I went hesitantly bc about 10 years ago (not this Applebee's but the one in Lindenhurst) served me my plate with a hair and produce sticker in my mashed potatoes. Took me 10 years to walk thru another Applebee's and there still remains the absence of quality control. 2 strikes and I'm out. I feel queasy just thinking about what goes on in these kitchens. ok so where to start..... oh wait ... the fact it took an hr and 15 minutes to get a table for 8... while watching groups of 4 and 6 get seated before us even tho they came in 45 minutes after us.... the manager is actually kind of a joke... when we asked him why its taking over an hr ... he told us to show him some sympathy.... SYMPATHY!!! thats your job... do it. obviously if you cant handle a semi crowded Saturday night... maybe you shouldnt be a manager. We finally get seated and order quickly... but then it takes another 15 minutes to get drinks... got appetizers 30 minutes after sitting down.... but wait... no silver ware... plates.. napkins... had to wait another 5 minutes for that.. food comes and half the plates are missing items, one person in our group ordered soup... didnt get a spoon for her soup... had to wait longer for that... My experience at the Shirley Applebees was horrendous. I Asked if it was possible to be seated at a booth. My children and I were seated by the kitchen at a half booth half table, A bit confused because there were several booths open ( the restaurant didn't have many people). Nonetheless, we were seated and ready to enjoy a meal together. My three children who were sitting one next to the other leaving an open seat next to me across from them, only because we were waiting to be served and there was no one in the restaurant really but our server Jill, Instead of greeting us informed us that there are two separate tables in this area And we need to make sure that we are all seated at one. As if for some reason she thought we were incapable of understanding the concept of four seats for four people. When she returned to take our order she literally stands behind me and over my shoulder. I felt so uncomfortable that I had to ask her if she could come around to the side of the table. Unfortunately that wasn't the end of an unpleasant evening. Our order consisted of four entrées two appetizers(mozzarella sticks) and an order of endless boneless wings. The server brought over the mozzarella sticks with no utensils no napkins no separate plates nothing. The initial boneless wings were so cold we had to send them back which wasted so much time. And when they brought back the boneless wings this time they were so hard and dry we could barely eat them and then we waited. And we waited, and we waited with dirty plates no entrées yet and no one cleaning anything up no one asking if we're OK another server came to the table a young man by the name of Devin who should be complimented for doing a good job and going beyond for clearing our table, Although it wasn't his responsibility he helped out by clearing the dirty dishes that were left in front of us for so long. Let's just say by the time the entrées came I had had enough! My son's burger came with baked ziti noodles attached to it no lettuce nothing on the burger. I mean at this point I just thought this might be a cruel joke and I was ready to go home. I am so disgusted with the experience we had I will not go back to the Applebee's in Shirley which is unfortunate because I wanted to support the Applebee's in my town. read more

We came here over a year ago and did not care for the service or meals we had, but recently came again thinking if they are still in business it must be better. Wrong! The service was ok as far as promptly getting our order and bringing out the food but for our group of 5 just getting burgers they did not cook it the way we ordered. 3 were ordered medium well and mine was ordered medium but they all came out the same- Well Done and a little crunchy. I did leave a 20% tip but WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THE SHIRLEY LOCATION!!! My fault for assuming they would be better than a year ago. Michael, my employee, tried to get all of us to go out to eat. Nobody showed up except him. I played owl city on my Yahama PSR 6 and Christian played minecraft. Michael was alone, but still had a great time. He had an appetizer, an entre, dessert, and a drink. He spent a lot of money but it was well worth it. Very dirty as well as the people in front of us left as we were seated and we not once saw the table be cleaned or wiped down at all for the hour and a half we were eating. Wow ... what to say ... Applebees had at one time been decent but not so much now. The waitstaff is adequate. I really hate it when someone comes by every other bite to ask how things are. I would rate the food more or less as nourishment and not much else. My husband's steak was little more than an over cooked hamburger. I ordered the chicken with the alfredo sauce on the side. The chicken was a pressed patty, the pasta was way more than al dente, and the alfredo sauce was cold and gloppy ... the steamed broccoli and the bread stick was the highlight of the dish. Staff was extremely rude about me picking up my order with out a mask and PROOF of a vaccine card. Im not talking a photo, physical possession of the card itself. Guy didn't even give me a mask to wear, he told me to go out back to my car in the poring rain and get a mask which I don't have cuz i threw them all out. This establishment must of forgot that Cuomo said that customers with proof of vaccination are allowed to forget the mask.
