Frida, the waitress was sweet and friendly. She was quick to refill our granddaughter's dirty soda. However, there was a mix-up with my husband's order of Bourbon Street Steak, a Shrimp N Parmesan Steak was brought out. When his order came back, it was the same parmesan steak with half cooked mushrooms and onions. The side of green beans disappeared also. The check was also incorrect and we had to wait to get that resolved. The waitress was great, but the kitchen was sub par and lazy. read more

I have no words. Can I give less than one star? We interacted with 4 different staff members and each interaction was awful. After 45 minutes we had water. We finally left after watching the bartender pour two draft beers (badly) and let them sit until the giant foamy head went down enough to pour more. Utterly ridiculous. This place was so dirty, I lost my appetite. My mom and brother pointed to the ceiling and I was shocked. It was filthy. When I used the bathroom, it was also disgusting. No one, neither customers nor staff, wore a mask. I'm not OCD, but damn, being in this place made my skin crawl. I couldn't tell you about the food as I couldn't eat it. Great overall experience! My daughters and I ate here last night. The place was super busy, told it would be 1 hour and 15 min wait. I really wanted a non-fast food restaurant, so agreed to wait. 30 minutes later we received the text to tell us our table was ready. Our server (can't remember name for sure, Nikita maybe?) was very prompt, she did a great job with our order and making sure we had refills and everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Appetizer and drinks came out fast. My perfect margarita was in fact, perfect (great female bartender with dark curly hair, didn't get a name)! Meals came out perfectly timed as we finished our appetizer. My steak was cooked perfectly. Everyone enjoyed their food. Overall was a great experience. I have to admit, I was a bit leery about eating here due to all the bad reviews. That is why I felt so compelled to post, because we truly had a great experience! Went to this applebees for our Sunday dinner and the waitress was awesome. We ordered the fish and chips and it was bad fish, smelled like very strong fish we just couldn't eat it, it was nasty! Then I was checking my bank account on Tuesday and seen that applebees charged our card 3 times so while they are holding $200 of my monet I called to speak with the manager and he said his name was Matt. Matt explained to me that their system is charging many, many customers 2 or 3 times and they are trying to fix the problem, meantime they are holding our money! WTH!! I'm going in there tomorrow to see if they can put it back or give me that money back in cash. While I was at the dollar store today the guy working there told me that applebees is doing that and so is Walmart, & someone else and that was in McPherson. Geez read more

We came into the restaurant at approximately 9:00 pm on 6/11/2024, nobody was at podium to check us in, several workers were congregating by the bar, at least three of them looked directly at us but nobody bothered to approach us or check us in. stood at the podium for about 5 minutes and a gal finally approached us. She asked if we wanted a high table, I said no, so she sat us at a regular table and gave us menus. And there we sat for nearly twenty minutes. NOBODY came by to take our order or for any other reason. I finally waved down the the same gal that sat us and asked if we could get someone to take our order and also asked if they could turn down the music that was blaring out of the speaker directly over us, which was making the people two tables away from us have to speak excessively loud to hear each other over the loud music (also the music was not appropriate for a dining atmosphere, it was some kind of grunge hard music). Anyhow she did go turn the music down, it stayed down for a minute and then somebody turned it back up. A server / waiter came by our table about three minutes later, he set down silverware and walked away without saying a word. By this time we had been in the restaurant for nearly 30 minutes. We decided enough was enough and left. I did walk over to the bar area and asked who the manager was. A gal with long hair and a bad complexion looked up from her phone that she was texting and / or playing on and said she was. I then advised her as politely as I could muster that she may want to stop playing on her phone and actually run her restaurant. She asked where we were seated, and I said it really didn't matter because we were leaving. I told her briefly about what we had encountered and then walked out of the restaurant. Whoever owns this restaurant needs to do a better job of overseeing their business. This was horrible. Can't rate food, never got a chance to order / eat. But in the past the food has usually been decent. Service has almost always been an issue but this was by far the worst experience we have had at this location. read more

Wichita, KS Rock Road..Six of us went at 6pm on a Wednesday. There was hardly anyone else there. It took forever for someone to take our order. I told our waitress that my mom and I were splitting the chicken salad. When it came (again took forever), she brought one salad which had one dressing and one breadstick....and an extra bowl. Anywhere else I've been, they'll split it in the kitchen, which I asked her to do. We were there 1 hour & 15 minutes and had to go "find someone" to get our check. I have never had Applebees other than the one in newton so im not sure if it's just this one or maybe all of them. Regardless, I have never enjoyed the food here in the 27 years I have lived in newton. They have never cooked a steak correctly. They have also never made food that was memorable. "MISTAKE, its so crowded...we'll be late!" But we did. There were 5 in our group and as soon as we sat and she came for our drink orders, we gave her our meal order. They had our meals to us and HOT with in 10 minutes! We could not believe it! The place was packed out too. I've been here a few times, and generally the experience is about the same. It's easily found off the highway, there is plenty of parking, and the hostess is fairly responsive to get you seated right away. I came here on a Sunday night with my dad. Immediately we are seated, and soon enough our waitress comes by for our drink orders. Just plain waters for the both of us. The menu has stayed the same, but they do offer new stuff on special, or whatever is advertised at the time on TV. I ordered the double barrel 4 oz steaks with mashed potatoes. My dad got the Asian Shrimp Salad. Our waitress was timely and receptive to our time looking at the menu and getting the order in. Thumbs up in that regard. Our food only took about 15 minutes, which is pretty good for any place. I was disappointed that my food did not come out "sizzling" like in their ads. My meal was served on a hot plate with mashed potatoes on one half, and 2 medium rare steaks on the side. Both were cooked perfectly surprisingly. Most the time I order MR is because any place generally cooks them a touch too long, so it gives room for some error. They were topped with caramelized onions, red peppers and mushroom. Overall no issues, and they were seasoned well. Small complaint would be there was a bit of fat that was annoying to cut through. My dad got his, and it looked good. About 3-4 minutes into eating, he complained that the hot plate had a lot of rust on it. To confirm it, I got his steak knife and started to scratch in it. It was indeed rust and not just burnt food on it. It took a while to get one of the wait staff to get our attention and report my dads displeasure. The manager came by to assure us that in 5 minutes, my dad should get a new plate. He was also aware of it, and claimed to have one of the staff throw it out and not use it. Well first off, if you're the manager, it's your executive decision, so allowing your employee to get rid of it or not, is not a wise one. Besides that point, he did hold his promise and brought out a new "sizzling" hot plate of his food in 5 minutes. He apologized and I respect that he took the time to correct it and not argue with the customer. When we finished our meals, I was pleased to find out that my dad's meal was on the house. That's great customer service and taking care of us. A discounted rate would have sufficed, but they went the extra mile. I'll give them the 4th star for that, otherwise it would be just an average 3 out of 5. read more

I've never went to a different Applebees other than the one in newton as of today i have never had an experience like i did today, me and some friends went to go grab dinner. We we're seated, everything was good. Until are waitress came and took our order, we were treated horribly and with attitude. When we we're asking for things she would ignore certain people, we got the food, food was amazing. But soon we realized 2 other people were missing there food after 30 more min of waiting for our waitress to come she never did until we had to go as far into asking another worker to call her over, as we were clearing the situation she was giving attitude and not listening. We finished and about to leave when me and my boyfriend got charged extra than what we had ordered. We told her about it and she didn't say anything but take the ticket. We all payed and she later came back and told us we had to pay for an extra pair of wings we did not order or have. When we had all ordered UNLIMITED wings so no extra wings should have been charged. read more

Sat for 10 minutes until someone came to get our drink order; apparently no one knew we were there after seating us. We laughed it off with the server because no one told her and she apologized and blamed it on her "pregnancy brain." Ordered a burger and requested no bacon; got a burger with bacon. Requested a new burger since the bacon juices had soaked into the burger, and the server asked if she wanted to just take it off, but I insisted on a new one. Just to make sure, I ripped off a chunk of the burger and poked a hole in the bun. 5 min later, the same burger with a chunk missing and hole in the bun came back out. The manager ended up coming and didn't even question how we knew it was the same burger, I'm assuming because it's common practice for them and he knew we knew. He made a point to make sure we knew that he took the burger (which we never received) off the bill, so we are thankful for that. Ended up leaving and going to sonic down the road; they're great. read more

YUCK!!! I know there's not much around in Newton Kansas, but I would have rather gone to Taco Bell or something. One of the worst restaurant meals I've had in a LONG time. We got the artichoke dip for an appetizer which actually was pretty good, but it went downhill from there. My brother and I both got steaks served with different toppings and both of them were really really tough and had an unusual flavor for steak. I used to love getting a steak at Applebees, but in the past few years, the quality of their meat has vastly degraded to the point where I can't hardly even eat it. I felt like I was in a foreign country and they had duped me into eating donkey meat or something. I never send food back at a restaurant, but my brother and I both sent ours back and ordered the fiesta Lime chicken which wasn't much better than the steak we started with. I buy frozen chicken breasts at home to grill all the time and they're cheap and usually come out pretty tasty, so I'm not sure how they managed to screw up grilled chicken, but it was pretty bad. My brother seemed to think his was undercooked and mine had a really odd texture to it. The sauce they put on it was kind of gross also. The waitstaff was very polite and our server tried to make things right, but the kitchen just couldn't deliver. In my opinion they have cheaped out on the ingredients to keep their menu prices down, but in the process they turn out food that's so bad that I don't think I'll ever eat there again.
