This is the only Applebee's in the Hickory area and I was disappointed when me and my wife ate here today. We ordered the 2 for $25 - 6 oz. top sirloin plate and bourbon street chicken and shrimp plate. Our steak looked great if we had ordered it well done but had to be sent back as my wife had wanted it to be medium. After receiving it the second time we sliced into an almost raw piece of steak. I don't know much about how bourbon street chicken and shrimp should taste but as far as I got into my dish, the only urge to take another bite came from the nearby Tabasco sauce that I used to add any flavor to the dry chicken I had been given. The potatoes were okay at first but after the first five minutes they took too much effort to bite into as they had already hardened on the outside. I placed my order online at 4:45pm for a 5:40pm pick up. Arrived at the restaurant at 5:39pm. Sit there 5 minutes, no one came to the car. There was a sign there that said, "Stay in your car, we'll come out when we see you". I finally called at 5:45pm and was told the food would be right out. Nothing. I called again at 6:00pm and spoke with someone who claimed to be a manager. All she said was sorry, nothing more. When I got home with my order which consisted of a cheese burger with fries and grilled chicken with mashed potatoes. The fries were stone cold as well as the mashed potatoes. I pd almost $30 for this order and when I called the manager offered a lousy $15 credit. I drove 9 miles for this order. I have placed orders at other restaurants across the street and even farther away and my food has never been cold. Also when I spoke with the manager named Greg, he gave me the impression I was more of a bother to him. I will not be supporting this restaurant ever again. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch after shopping. The place was clean, food was delicious, server was excellent. My only complaint was the time it took to get our food. My husband and I have not been to local Applebee's, Hickory, NC, in 3 years. We received a gift, from there, for Christmas. We went Dec 29, 2017. We ordered the 8 oz. Sirloin entree and smaller Sirloin and vegetable bowl. Both of our steaks were very tough and no flavor. They offer no bread, unless you pay, but the other restaurants offer and bring all the fresh baked bread you can hold. My husband I realized why we stopped going here 3 years ago. For what they charge, we can get a gristle and fat free prime cut "Fresh" sirloin at Longhorn, Outback, O'Charleys and many more here in town. I really tried to give this Applebee's numerous chances. A little background first is that I had 2 super horrible experiences about a year ago, which I complained about. The entire order was mixed up both my entrees were wrong and the steaks were not cooked properly. Another time, I ordered the curbside service and ended up waiting forever until no one came out. I ended up just running inside to pick the order up. Turns out our order had been given out earlier to someone with a similar name... Well after the order was complete, I checked it to find out the sides were wrong. The lady gave me some sides to go to make up for it. I got home to find my steaks were NOT cooked well done (bloody), so my boyfriend ended up throwing them on the grill which took another 30 mins after waiting at Applebee's for an hour. My side was broccoli which one would think would be easy to get right. Except they gave me raw broccoli! So all this I couldn't take and wrote an online complaint. They ended up calling me and after explaining everything, the manger gave me a free certificate. I waited a few months and finally used the freebie. That experience was smooth, no problems. So after those experiences,I was burned out and didn't eat there for a while. But a couple weeks ago,my boyfriend and I decided to give it another go. The restaurant was pretty packed so after waiting a short wait, we were seated. The seating was horrible,we were placed beside a group that had about 3 tables pushed together. It was very cramped and was inches from some members of the group. The group was extra loud and I could barely hear anything my boyfriend was saying to me. Thankfully they left about half-way into the evening. I ordered my usual steak but tried the new bourbon sizzler (well done). So cutting into my steak blood gushed out, grossing me out. So my waitres took my steak and about 10 mins later brought me a brand new one. Now this one was even worse than before! So I called the waitres back and after waiting another 10 mins, she brought my original steak back(I could tell by the way I cut it). Finally it was cooked! But now my boyfriend was finished eating... Also the waitress never refilled our drinks, had to ask her. The side order of potatoes were very small maybe a half of one potato. I was unsatisfied with the entire experience. And it's safe to say I wont ever be going back. read more

we've been to numerous Applebee's and this one is the best. We have small children so we try to get there early so we can get seated quickly. The food is great and is delivered quickly. The Waitstaff is pretty good and refills are prompt. My only complaint is when I get to love a particular item, they take it off for something else.... sheesh! read more

We start the experience with waiting maybe 10 minutes or so before anyone even acknowledged we were there, the hostess pretended to clean us a table.(My arm stuck to the table on almost dried bbq sauce. We sit there waiting 10 minutes or so and a waitresses, not ours, tells us April will be with us shortly. 5 minutes or so later April asks us for drink orders, we give them and ask if the table could be cleaned so I stop sticking to it, she disappears, and 10 minutes or so bartender delivers my drink, no soda for my wife. An other 10 minutes April reappears asking if we are ready to order, I ask about cleaning table again and about the 3 course meal menu, she cleans the bbq sauce and drops us a menu for 3 course meals, she comes back maybe 10 minutes later and we order, my wife wanted shrimp and I was going to get some grilled shrimp with me ribs as well, nope, they are out of shrimp, a quarter of the meals have shrimp nice, we order nachos and we start looking at menu again, eventually she comes and takes our order. Maybe 15 minutes later we get our nachos, no serving plates, not April serving, have not seen her for a while now.(time has lost all meaning at this point) Eventually we see April ask the manager to get my wife's salad. Few minutes later wife gets salad. We are waiting for our cheese sticks at this point we have been in the building over an hour, we see what looks like our meals being delivered to the next table, they bring it back to kitchen, still no cheese sticks, 5 minutes or so later, he comes out with our meals, not the cheese sticks, (starting to qonder if we actually ordered them at this point)we tell the server our app has yet to arrive, he tells us he Will ask about them. Eventually April appears again asking how things are, I tell her we never got our cheese sticks and obviously our food sat in the window for a long time, twice. said she will bring more fries, meanwhile the green beans on my plate have butter that's solid again. She leaves after ordering me an other drink with filthy, never been cleaned tablet on the table, goes to find our cheese sticks, she said.HUH that's a laugh. Well we are done eating basicly by now, and sense there are 2 employees within ear shot neither are April, at the hostess stand, I ask if they could ask the kitchen if they were going to give us cheese sticks, they could make them to go at this point. Well the cheese sticks finnaly arrive, feels like it's been a week. Seriously we only ate there because I had a gift card from gas rewards, this was the first time, might be the last, not sure yet. Our food came very late, the blonde lady that was our server was very rude, and the food made me and 2 of my other friends sick. I don't know if they were just having an off day or what, but I'm definitely not going back to that particular Applebee's. :( read more

Went to Applebee's on Saturday 11/30/13 and it was amazing. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server's name was Shadow. Not only was she very sweet but she knew the items on the menu, told us about drink and food specials, and brought us refills before our glasses were even 1/2 empty (my glass never got near 1/2 empty) She is exactly what a server should be. I started with the wedge salad. I would have been fine with just that because it was big and very filling. The blue cheese was chunky, the bacon was crisp, and the candied pecans on it added just the right amount of contrast in flavor and added great crunch. I also ordered the quesadilla burger with a side of red skinned mashed potatoes. I loved that they offered to give me a medium burger (i like my meat red inside) The burger was juicy and the pico de gallo sauce and two cheeses were great. The potatoes definitely tasted like homemade. My daughter ordered the children's sirloin (medium rare) with french fries and a kid's oreo sundae for dessert and our little cousin ordered the chicken tenders kid's meal w/fries and a kid's oreo milkshake for her dessert. They loved their food and I was impressed that they cooked the 4 oz sirloin PERFECTLY. It was red on the inside but still warm. So thanks to the wonderful food and especially because of Shadow this will most certainly become one of our favorite "Girl's Lunch Out" spots. read more

Food was good and came out at a pretty good time. It was really busy though and there were a lot of servers that kept passing by and standing near our table looking over the restaurant. We got to hear a lot of their conversation over our own. We were refilled often and got our check quickly. This doesn't have anything to do with the service. The waitress was nice, and apologetic, which is why this isn't a 1. However, the fryer at the restaurant was not working. Apparently they had 4, 3 were already not working, and the 4th joined those 3. I ordered the 4 cheese mac with honey pepper chicken. It had to be grilled, because of the fryer. It was not good. The chicken was rubbery, there was no flavor, and it was the first time I didn't even like that dish. I was t shocked, nor really expecting a discount, but after thinking about it, it would've been nice to get something for the inconvenience. I'm not sure I'll be back, because I don't know that the normal food will be available. read more

Let me start off by saying that I go out of my way to be nice to wait staff and generally adore the people who work at places like these and I tip considerably. However, this experience at this one particular Applebee's was just...insulting to say the best. Our waitress was rude and acted like we were the idiots for asking simple things and constantly sneered and rolled her eyes at us. Ignorable, but made me hesitant to ask for anything. I'm a vegetarian (And let me say, do not eat here if you have specific dietary needs, they will not be met. Friend is Kosher, they put bacon on her food even though it was nowhere on the menu) and ordered a bowl of soup and an order of fries. Most expensive thing on that check. My Friend's food was undercooked and the sauce it came in was just...rancid tasting. We also ordered appetizers, Mozzarella sticks tasted like frozen back-of-the-Walmart-freezer disappointment. Figured I would give it another shot since it has been 4 months since the last time I was here (been a while due to another bad experience). That was a big mistake! Our server was too occupied hanging out with the other servers to wait on us. Literally the worst trip to Applebee's ever. We checked in online at 8pm as a party of 5, which included 2 adults & 3 children, FOR MY SONS BIRTHDAY. We sat outside waiting for 1hour & 45mins before I walked in to realize EVERYONE including a party of 7, went before us. No one ever called or texted my phone. I called to check on our place in line TWICE as it said we were 1st on the waiting list for over an hour. Get inside, to the most rudest, unfriendly, disgraceful " servers " I've ever experienced. Food was ice cold. Had to send my sons Mac & chz back to get " heat up ", brought 2 kids food out & the other had to wait for 10 extra minutes. Took 15 mins to get silverware or sauces. Our server, Lisa, was probably the nicest person working there. She even told us herself that it was a bunch of trifling ppl working there & they wouldn't even help her sing happy birthday To my 11 year old son. So she sung by herself for him. I got several names I WILL be reporting to corporate. Completely unacceptable for grown women to act that way. If they hate their jobs that bad, LEAVE. MOD was completely rude as well. The food is fine and is a good value for the money. The reason for the one star rating is the complete lack of service and how obvious they make it that they do not value my business. I called ahead for curbside service and ordered a burger. They told me it would be 20 minutes. I was there in 15 minutes. At exactly 30 minutes after placing my order, I walk inside the building. Please note this defeats the purpose of "curbside service!" I walk inside to find there are three tables occupied by customers, so they aren't exactly busy. There are four staff members (hostesses or waitresses) standing together talking at the host stand as I walk in. Again, not exactly busy. She asks my name and then without checking anything except her invisible crystal ball tells me "Oh Your order just came up!" As if she thinks I'm stupid enough to believe that coincidence!! And if that were true and somehow she knew it "just came up" then why wasn't she in the back getting it and bringing it outside to me like she's supposed to be?!?! At the very least she could have not insulted my intelligence and just been honest that business was slow, the girls were bored, so they were all up front chatting with each and completely forgot to check on the parking lot or the food in the window! But here's the really sad part (because I've worked in the restaurant industry and I know this happens sometimes and I can be forgiving to a point BUT) this was the 5th time this same scenario has happened at this same restaurant where the girls have completely forgotten to check on the curbside and I've had to go inside and wait much longer than the time I was originally told. I don't know what has happened to Applebees. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The last two times have been disappointing. The last time I went I had the Applebees standard Oriental Chicken Salad. The recipe has changed. It is now just a salad with crispy chicken pieces served with an oriental dressing. Tonight 10/31/2014 I had the cowboy burger medium. It was horrible. Burnt burger, black and crispy on all edges and bottom. Very little bbq sauce and the onion straws tasted old. My wife had the salmon, way over done, tough. She couldnt finish the last 25% of her filet because it was like shoe leather. One bright note we had the chicken wonton tacos as an appetizer. Absolutely delicious. The next time we go it will be wonton tacos only. read more

I visited over the Christmas holiday and the food was excellent. I lost my IPad between the booth and the wall so of course I couldn't see it or anyone else. I'm a student and all my books are loaded on my pad so it was a huge hit for me. I was toiling over buying a new one when I received a call from the manager Steve. He sent it overnight to me. They kept my number almost two week after I called. Easily they could have chunked it after I called as soon as I noticed it was missing. BTW food and service was awesome! read more
