I really enjoyed the Hackensack Applebee's. It has lots of parking and enough seats to accommodate a Taylor Swift concert. We were honored to have been served by Alyssa, who was working her first day on the job. We started with a Mucho Rum Daiquiri, which was served in a huge glass, and a Watermelon Margarita. Both drinks were incredible and highly recommended. Our entrees were: Strawberry Balsamic Salad (Fresh greens served with garden tomatoes, red onions, and fresh strawberries. Topped with grilled chicken, sliced almonds, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, with a side of sweet lemon olive vinaigrette. This is also served with a golden brown breadstick brushed with buttery garlic and parsley). The other was the Southwest Chicken Bowl (Grilled chipotle lime chicken on fresh greens and cilantro rice with house-made pico de gallo, black bean corn salsa and guacamole. Topped with chimichurri and a fresh lime wedge). Both of these items were very filling, served in a large bowl and plate, and well presented. Applebee's also has great deals during the week. Especially during Sunday night football games. The photo that I'll post will show the value of those deals. I became a big fan of Applebee's after this visit and will definitely return. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening. This place is busy. The restaurant was 75% full. We got our table quickly. The server didn't write down our order and said she's remembered it. She our wonton chicken tacos wrong. She brought out nachos. She claims she took someone order. We accidentally spilled water and asked for napkins. I haven't been to an Applebees for a long time! It's funny that we decided to go for lunch one day. The fried chicken and the ribs were pretty good. Salad was just okay because it had too much dressing on it. We were super full after the meal. Overall, it was not bad at all. read more

I haven't been to an Applebees in a while, it was great to be back! It's always a nice option, especially for those on a budget. Every month they have drink specials, and half apps after 10PM. I got the drink specials for this month- pot of gold and lucky leprechaun. They were both good- mine was a bit warm when I had the first sip but that's ok. We did the 2 for $32 which you get an app + two entrees. The food was great, especially for the price! read more

I am not surprised this location has a collective 2.5 star rating. Nobody was at the bar, when I entered, and I was sitting for about 5 minutes when someone finally asked, "Do you need help?" I had nothing as much as a glass of water in front of me, and that is all I was asked. I asked if, Olympic ice hockey can be turned on one of the T.V.s (nobody was paying attention to the team speed skating event), and they were nice enough to do it. The bar matron did not greet me with a warm, "Welcome to Applebee's! What can I get you to drink?' She just dropped a small plate in front of me, and asked, "What do wanna drink?" I worked in hospitality for several years, and I was never trained to "greet'' customers like that. If friendliness to every single customer in making them feel welcome (even if, you have to fake it) is not her thing then, maybe she should find another career. "It was really busy" is not an acceptable excuse. It was not insanely busy, but even if it was, it is never that busy to an level which you must throw common courtesy to the wayside. The food is never an issue. The absence of good, polite, and courteous service at an eatery like Applebee's is. read more

Although the food tastes good, the service is horrible and the ambience means nothing when the service is terrible!!! my granddaughter was in a play today and we went to Applebee's to celebrate there were 9 of us The restaurant was pretty empty and there were staff all over so we were happy that we chose that location until our waitress showed up. We are all about everyone getting a job. We're all about everyone having an opportunity, but when a waitress cannot be understood or cannot understand you it is just not a job functional for them... but it wasn't just her. The kitchen was also a problem. It didn't matter that she got almost every single one of the orders wrong. The kitchen didn't send them out at the same time ! Mine came out 10 minutes before everyone else's then a a few got theirs after me then another few but my husband never got his meal. I went to complain and they said oh your fish and chips will be out soon. We're working on it now, but my husband didn't order fish and chips. I complained that the waitress never came back to the table. We never got soda refills. They charged us $1.99 for a side salad they said came with the meal never telling us there was an up charge and three of us got salads. my granddaughter wanted mashed potatoes instead of french fries they gave her french fries my son-in-law's hamburger was so overcooked but because everything else was a nightmare he didn't even mention it as well as his mom's meal. She ordered a crispy chicken wrap and got a grilled chicken wrap the children were upset that the adults were upset and we ended up asking for to go containers and spoke to the manager.. although the manager was very nice and clearly was mortified he did discount the check, but considering the nightmare that occurred which is only half documented here we don't think he should've charged us at all! but again he was clearly mortified at all the mistakes made, and I actually felt bad for him but when you're the manager of a restaurant, the buck stops with you!!! I will never go to the Hackensack Applebee's again. They didn't even offer us a dessert!!! they ruined our celebration!!!! read more

It's Applebee's, so I go in not expecting great service or fine dining. We are seated very fast by a young robot hostess. No welcome or hello, just an odd smile and vapid stare for us to follow her. She dropped off our menus and was gone before we even sat down like she committed a robbery. Waitress was super fast to attend to us, she was also the full time bartender and it wasn't busy at the moment so she was prob trying to bang out our order fast as possible. We got the kids the standard chicken tenders and fries that they played w and barely ate. We got a sampler platter for an app. It comes w chicken quesadilla, mozz sticks, boneless wings and spinach dip/chips. I asked for blue cheese side and honey pepper. Got ranch & sweet chili of course. Not the end of the world. It was ok, ticked off the variety boxes of foods you think you want until you actually have them. For dinner, the wife got the chicken tex mex bowl & I got the bourbon steak w mash pot, mush & onions. For an extra $1 you can add 12 fried shrimp which is a pretty sweet deal. The bowl was pretty big, a nice bang for your buck at like $13. It came w rice, avacado, chicken, chimichurri and other hodge podge stuff of that ilk. I wanted the steak med, it came well done. It was still overall tender and had no fat which was a plus. The steak is suppose to come w cajun garlic butter. It did not. When I called her over, she knew right away what I wanted. A bit odd. So she knew when it came out it was missing and hoped I didn't know? When the runner brought the dinners, I asked for a to go box for the apps. He nodded yes and was never seen again. He also seemed to be a waiter as well, who knows. Our waitress/bartender made no effort to bring napkins or clear plates. I completely get she is swamped having to bartend and wait but that is the fault of management. She was wonderful getting anything I asked for but it does get tiring do that as well. Extra napkins and clearing the table should be automatic. I asked for 3 to go boxes, she brought them. After the fact she saw me struggling w the boxes and kids and keys ect so she asked if I would like a bag. Another example of peel the waiter onion. Yes I would like a bag, just give it right off the bat w the boxes. I more get annoyed bc you can look at her and know she's an old pro doing this for 10+ years easy. You know the drill and what everyone needs before hand. I waited tables for 8 years in another life. Give the people what they need and get it over with. Saves you grief and gets you better tips. Full disclosure, although dining was far from an amazing experience, 2 non stop noisy fidgeting & unrelenting ball breaking toddlers did not help the cause while we were trying to eat. It only amplified my aggravation at otherwise minor dining issues. Anyhow, I hit my Applebees quota for the year. It's prob been 10+ years. Least I know nothings changed and I haven't missed much. Attended the breakfast wtih Santa at Applebee's in Hackensack Dec 7, 2024. Event was well run with all proceeds going to toys for tots. Raffles were well put together and the holiday decor was festive. Face painting was available for the kids and the wait staff and management were attentive throughout the restaurant and all the kids received goodie bags and photos with their awesome Santa! If you like salty food, this is thebplace to go to, otdered unlimited boneless chicken, they give you about 5 pieces and a ton of fries, which are amazingly very salty, drank so much water to offset the taste. I want to let everyone know who loved to camp with their furbabies. Do not go to cedar creek campsite in Bayville NJ. My girl is my emotional support dog because I have PTSD and she is a pit bull only 45 pounds. They refused me!!! And when I called I told them what kind of dog she was !!! But when we showed up they said no!! Because shes a pit. Really!!!! So we left then called Tip Tam camp grounds in Jackson NJ and they were most accommodating to us! They had no problem and never turn away a service dog! So as far as Cedar Creek you can kiss my service dogs butt. I highly recommend Tip Tam Campgrounds and the staff is the best!!! Overall, I would say this is not the best Applebees I've been to or the best chain either. The service was slow, but she was so nice. I think they are severely understaffed. We waited about twenty minutes to get sat but there were a ton of open seats, which made me feel like those sections were closed. The boneless wings were good, the Caesar salad was good, everything else was average or below. Do not get the chicken wonton tacos, they are not good. The slaw on it makes them soggy and it's just a weird combo of flavors. read more

The service for the most part is OK they are attentive and the manager always comes around to make sure every everything is up to par. However, the ambience is not great. Our waitress was outstanding this evening. I enjoyed our time here, but the only reason I'm giving it a 3 star is because I ended up with a reaction on my lip after drinking from the glass. Perhaps asking for a straw next time would be best for me. My boyfriend and I ordered a ton of appetizers and were satisfied with all of it. My favorites of the night were the tacos and quesadillas. Service was excellent here last night. 4 adults, one kids meal and the bill was $91. This included two beers and a sangria. Food was what you would expect- decent and good. The surprise was the fresh strawberries in yogurt that cane with my daughters kids meal....amazing!!! The handicapped stall didn't have any toilet paper. If I could give it lower, I would!!!!!! The Assistant Manager was an A$$ so I have to assume the Manager is an A$$ for not supervising his assistants!! We came out to Applebee's to enjoy and support our "local" businesses. Well this will certainly be the last time for this poorly run establishment. The idea of social distant seating is well understood but the line gets drawn where either family members or people that arrive together sit as comfortably as the setup of the tables permits. Upon arrival there was some uncomfortable seating due to the afternoon sun and our choosing to sit differently yet still in our designated space was abruptly met with an obnoxious waitperson. The obnoxious attitude only got worse with the demand that a mask be worn between ordering and waiting for our drinks. The waitperson failed to realize that we were quenching our thirst with the table water. This entire unfortunate social situation has given rise to disgraceful behavior by restaurant employees that are ignorant young people that need weeding out. Living in this town for over sixty years and having patronizing this restaurant at least thirty times since it's arrival in our town. We even assisted in developing some of the memorabilia for the background design but will not allow such disgraceful treatment by the supervisor as well as the employee. Thankfully the Lotus Chinese, Firehouse Subs and a few more restaurants make it easy to boycott Applebee's poor behavior!!!!! read more

We came here one day for the Endless Boneless Wings but weren't sure if it was still going on. So, we asked the hostess at the front if it was and she said yes. As soon as we sat down and asked the waitress she told us that the deal had just ended. Not sure why the hostess told us it was, as we weren't planning on eating here if it wasn't. But since the waitress was so kind to us we ended up staying and eating other food. On another occasion we ordered just a quick appetizer, a classic combo. We wait for maybe 10+ minutes and it hasn't arrived. We come to notice a group of other people be seated near us long after we've arrived. They order the same exact meal as us and they get it sooner. The other guests noticed that we seemed confused and they asked us if we ordered the same thing since they were shocked they got their food so quick (they got their order maybe 1-2 minutes after ordering) They even asked if we wanted it. We just let them keep it since they've already touched it and all that. We received our food maybe 10 minutes later. Mind you, this was on the appetizer alone. Not sure why this happened but we ended up getting reasonably upset. Overall, the food is good and it's what you'd expect from any other Applebees, but after these two unfortunate back to back experiences I think it's best to go to a different location.
