Years ago, my kid brother was in an Applebee's commercial. You know the one with the collision montage of hometown heroes, high school football players, first responders, and a diverse group of friends all laughing and talking at the same time while sitting at the bar wearing their 9 to 5 clothes? Yeah, they're all the same. And with a little truth in advertising, this Applebee's is about like every other I've visited. We had a one night stay in Dodge City, on our way to Durango from Omaha, and without a lot of options, this was the dot on the map we picked. As for the restaurant, it was delightfully unmemorable. There was some kind of fundraiser happening the night we visited, so a couple of folks with a card table were handing out fliers in the foyer, making menu recommendations and talking about the taste they'll get if I ordered blah blah blah. I ended up ordering one of those things, an $18 burger. Whoa, pump the brakes Applebee's... when did your burger become an Andy Jackson commitment? Whatever, the little chiles got silly things like Mac N Cheese off the kids menu, while Mrs. Picante got a steak. I wanted to make that Caddyshack joke about how "this steak still had marks where the jockey was hitting it!" But it was fair to middlin' and cooked right, medium rare like she asked. It's hard to fathom that going into an Applebee's with five people is 100 bucks, especially here when it seems the blue plate special for the after church crowd was a thing. But as my dad says in Vegas, and that I've shared in many other reviews, "we are not here for a haircut." The server was very nice, gave the kids some drink refills, checked in on us with the "how's everything tasting? " bit. So that was nice. Those old commercials used to close with the slogan, "eating good in the neighborhood." This place definitely is not where I live, and I can confidently say I've had much worse and much better meals. But being on vacation with my family, 1500 miles from my front door after putting 8000 clicks on the old odometer, is one of those things that I cherish. We ate here late on Wednesday after driving in from Colorado. Typical Applebee's food. Nothing to write home about. Tables for two are crowded against a railing and it's so close that you feel like you're eating with the table on the other side of the railing. We asked to be moved to a booth to have more space to accommodate my service dog so they told us to go ahead and pick one but didn't assist us. The place its self was okay. It was lunch time and not crowded . We enjoyed the quite, tv's and etc were very quiet. Nice to be able to talk to person you are with. Server was good. The food was not even close to good. Fish and fries wit coleslaw. Slaw was dry, chopped cabbage no sauce of any kind, and no taste. Good sized fish portions- you did not have to hunt for the fish, but cooked to almost burnt. Was still moist inside but the coating inside was not done. The oil used to fry appeared and tasted old. Fries, were from bottom of the bag, thin, chips mostly and cold. Bacon burger was to piled high to even get in the mouth, but did pass as good. The onion rings- 6 burnt rings that once again tasted like old oil was used. The tea, a bit too sweet. This is our 3rd attempt to eat at A Applebee's and it will be out last. Other two were in Texas and then here in Dodge. Do not mind paying a bit more for eating out - a rarity for us- but expect food to be worth it. Any server I've had has been great & served our table in a timely manner in correspondence to how busy or slow they are. Beer is cold, drinks are good, food is great. My wife and I wanted a quick dinner. We got the two for $22. Both of us got the fiesta lime chicken. And it was very good. But we were really turned off by the condition of the booth where we were seated. The table had obviously not been wiped down. I called over our waitress and she said that she'd take care of it. A worker came by with a few dry paper towels, looked at the table, and ask is there water on the table? We said this table hasn't been wiped off. He proceeded to brush it off a little bit. We were a palled that he didn't have a damp cloth or sanitizer. It left us feeling a little sick. Even if we didn't have to deal with COVID-19 I would expect a better wipe down than that. The food was fine and our waitress did an excellent job but it just left us with an uncomfortable feeling. When another family left their table I watched how they cleaned up. They just brushed everything under the floor with dry paper towels. Then they did go back and spray the chairs and tables with a liquid. Then they left. There was a lot of trash under the table. They never came back and cleaned it up by the time we left. I just was not impressed with how they were cleaning up, especially during Coronavirus. read more

When we went back, they asked us to sit so they could clean tables off (the restaurant was FILTHY. We witnessed serval tables that needed to be cleaned, yet they wanted to seat us a table not even big enough for two people along the entryway. We asked for one of the booths yet to be cleaned, and was told it would be 45 minutes to clean one of those booths because the wait staff is too busy to add an additional two people to wait on. We were slightly hesitant after reading previous reviews, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. The staff we experienced was VERY competent, friendly, and helpful. Our daughter has Type 1 Diabetes, and we do guess when we have to, but it is best if we can accurately count the carbs for her meals. The manager, Todd Unruh, (I'm pretty sure that was his first name, last name for sure) was expedient, bringing their nutritional info to our table, making sure we got everything figured out. Our server, I forget her name, was also very helpful, ensuring our daughter had the right drink with every refill. I've had a couple items at this Applebee's location that were pretty good: the fried potatoes, the mozzarella sticks, and the spinach dip. However, I recently had a sirloin steak and fire roasted veggies. The person I was dining with had the same thing. Both of our steaks were over cooked and the veggies were the opposite. Not only were the veggies so big you had to cut everything up just to eat them, but they were also mostly raw with a little oil drizzled on them. I hope they start making those differently! It was a $40 lunch that wasn't actually enjoyable (other than the potatoes). Overall, it's an Applebee's. Don't expect perfection and you'll be mostly satisfied. read more

I got there well after my order said it was done, then still had to go inside when I called the number. We stopped by while traveling since Applebee's is a place we are familiar with. We have allergies to eggs, gluten, and dairy, so our options were limited. We went with the baked salmon with seasonal veggies. We made our allergies very clear and asked if that was okay. Was there butter in the veggies? No, Great! She double checked with the kitchen and we were good. We checked 3 times before I ate the food that there was no butter. But the moment I ate the veggies, and ohhh over how yummy they were, I knew I was in trouble. They definitely had delicious butter on them. Frustrated, I asked the server about it, so she went and asked the kitchen again. Turns out they put butter on them by accident.
