Abbots Grange - The cleaning agents left in the bathroom twice back to back on 2 days. Very negligent for a hotel that markets itself as five star!!!

This is not a 5 star lodge/hotel. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE BAD REVIEWS: THEY ARE THE ACTUAL ONES…read moreTELLING YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS HOTEL. WE BOOKED 6 NIGHTS BUT WE CHECKED OUT AFTER 4 NIGHTS BECAUSE IT WAS SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE. I do not understand how anyone thinks this is 5 star. It must be people who've never stayed in actual 5 star hotels. The grounds are maybe 4 star. The room is 2 star. The service is 1 star. We had to fill out our breakfast choices on a list like you'd do in a 3 or 4 star restaurant the day before. And as if that's not bad enough, the food is rationed. You get one mushroom and one sausage on your plate. They do not have veggies to add to an omelette. They can't make boiled eggs. If you happen to forget to fill out the breakfast list the day before, they have no flexibility. You just won't eat, because the food is rationed out precisely as to how many guests will eat. The number of eggs is exact etc. The same women who cook also clean, so they are visibly irritated when you show up without submitting your choices the night before because they have to hurry to clean the rooms. They only serve breakfast in a 1.5 hour window because they have to rush to go and start cleaning the guest rooms. We asked for extra towels and extra water in the room. It never happened. The bath soap was not refilled. The cleaning ladies left their cleaning agents in our bathroom twice. I can understand this happening once but twice is horrendous. I have never seen this happen before in a 5 star hotel. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels and this is DEFINITELY NOWHERE near 5 stars. It is 3 star at the most! They are clearly trying to make a huge profit by economizing their supplies, food and staff!!! And the outside of the door is unkempt. The room is tired, the bed is tiny--IT IS NOT KING SIZE. IT IS QUEEN. The bed sheets are very low quality, the room is dusty and smells stale and the entire room is 2 star. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE BAD REVIEWS: THEY ARE THE TRUTH!!!

The rooms are spacious and well appointed with nice touches like a great selection of teas and shortbread cookies. Super comfortable bed as well. The grounds are huge and we played croquets. Great breakfast in a beautifully paneled room, too.

Never have I ever left a restaurant in tears. You know when…read moreyou just *feel* the racism? It doesn't need to be blatant but is usually subtle. POC will understand 100% that feeling. We booked this last minute and as soon as we walked in, were ignored. A white couple came in after us and the blonde waitress went directly around us and took them to a table. I made direct eye contact as she was taking them, as if to say, I saw that and yes we're still here. She intentionally avoided us completely after as we were standing there waiting to be helped. The man behind the bar saw, seated us instead, and then we were ignored for another 20 minutes. I asked another blonde waitress if we could be helped and she said WE'LL GET TO YOU. She had never even acknowledged our presence or existence prior. I was already so upset we just decided to leave after that. We left with empty bellies and a trip to a local grocery store instead. There's a Yelp review from 9 days ago about this and one on TripAdvisor from this month saying the EXACT SAME THING.

We had: - Crispy Lincolnshire Poacher, roasted sweet potato, honey roasted carrots, baby spinach, chicory, avocado (£8.50) - basically a grown up mozzarella stick that was so delicious we had a hard time getting our mom to share bites with us. - Mixed roast beef and pork, crackling & Apple sauce w/ goose fat potatoes, double egg Yorkshire pudding, red cabbage, honey roasted roots cauliflower cheese and gravy (£16.50) - thank god we saw another table receive their servings first because then we knew this was a huge portion to be shared. Very good, traditional English meal - Crispy pork belly, creamy truffle mash, baby spinach, roasted button onion, cauliflower purée, apple sauce (£16.50) - delicious, especially the creamy truffle mash. Service was friendly although we had to catch their attention a bit more than I like. The space has a welcoming, well-decorated pub feel but well lit. We realized afterwards that they had out door seating which would have been nice to take advantage of with the fantastic weather! There is a parking lot out front.

Needs new management Upon arriving, nobody was there to receive us. Stood outside until staff returned to the home. Asking for directions to get to London on the bank holiday received a scoff - "on the bank holiday? You're out of luck" when in fact several busses and trains ran on that day. While in the common room we overheard a conversation on the phone between the manager and a caller asking about room availability. After hanging up the manager was mocking the caller's questions to another staff member. Rude and unprofessional. Breakfast was limited and much of the food is already gone after the first two rooms (out of 5) finish eating. Asking for more fruit received a frustrated "I'll ask" , and no fruit was given. Granola was available although it was sitting out on the shelf and did not appear fresh. Felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Aside from the rude staff, the water pressure in the shower was incredibly weak, the bathroom was very cold as it is not heated, and the toilet needed to be flushed four times for it to work.
